Disco Elysium: The Final Cut8
Oct 16, 2024
This definitely is one special, atmospheric game. I was lucky to get to a satisfactory ending and later realized it's not that hard to "fail" earlier, which makes restarting quite unpleasant given that this game is very heavy on dialogue. I read online that people generally find the game quite replayable, but I don't agree - yes, there are different side quests and different ways to get things done, but you still have to go through A LOT of familiar dialogue.I also didn't like that the credits are not skippable and take more than 5 minutes. That's not right. You can't force anyone to read the names of contributors, therefore you shouldn't even **** hesitant between 8 and 9, will go with 8.

I discovered this game while listening to random but really nice game soundtracks on Spotify. Turned out there was a big promo on Steam ($3) and the reviews were very solid, so I bought it. Yes, it is an artsy game, it pleases the eye, but I didn't find it to be the super duper masterpiece people are talking about. It starts off slow. Then it continues to be very slow. Puzzles are quite easy for the most part. Even though the landscape changes a few times, it doesn't change that much. After the mid-point I started appreciating the puzzles more as they became a little more challenging, but were still not hard. And then the game ended. The ending is interesting, it did stir some emotions, there's real art in it if you'd like. Yet, when I look back - this is indeed a slow-paced, easy, and very short game. I did try to find additional mementos but with all the animations and general slowness I quickly gave up, so no replay value for me. It's a nice little game, but there's some mismatch between the regular price of around $17 and the high reviews and the little GAMING value it provides.

This game is among the ones with the most "mind blown" occasions that I've played. It is quite deep, literally and as you discover new things about its mechanics. I would call it a hard game because there are so many hazards that you can die to. You can't be aware of all of them all the time. I guess the way it's built, the ultimate goal for any player is to make the breakthrough - become so powerful that you can go anywhere and do anything. Just don't step in a pool of teleportatium or polymorphine ;)

The trailer is great. Art style is pleasing. Single player gameplay quickly (20% into the game) becomes boring. There just isn't much to do or collect. Not a bad game but not great either.

Nice graphics, sound and gameplay. Stylish. However, I quit at the boss of world 2. Having to memorize each and every move of a boss so far away from the last checkpoint is not my idea of entertainment. Learning each next move with each death... sorry, as I am approaching 40 I can't afford to waste my time like this. Then I played some more and killed the mofo. And the next one. Maybe it's not that bad :)

Excellent atmosphere, story nicely told. Hard game. Ambushes are ridiculous even when you are expecting them. Grenades are sometimes nearly impossible to dodge. Cautious or not, you will die countless times on your first playthrough on the easiest difficulty. This subtracts 2 points from a score of 10. Some people say it is more realistinc than most shooters, that's why you can die from a single shot. It's true, but then - why would goons in the last chapter consistently survive 2-3 point-blank shots with a shotgun? 8/10 because of the ridiculous ambushes and diffuculty.

Very nice puzzle game, if a little hollow. Finishing levels is for the most part straightforward. Finding the secrets may be a little challenging and is perhaps the more valuable side of the game. Do not expect any special rewards, achievements or a story - you just play till you finish. A level or two were unnecessarily challenging in terms of execution. This is annoying as the main goal of the game is figuring out what to do, not to do the perfect jumps out of 20 attempts. One other downside is the checkpoint system. If you happen to find a secret pyramid and then die, you might lose the pyramid, because you took it after you activated your last checkpoint. Not obvious and you need to replay either the full level or a relatively lengthy part of it, which gets tedious.

Wasteland 28

Overall a very good game but not superb. I am a big fan of Fallout 1, 2, 3 and I was a kickstarter backer for Wasteland 2. I like how the game was created and funded. I don't like that it cost $50 for non-backers. I like how much it resembles the original Fallout games. I don't like how it is missing key elements from the very same games. I still think it is very good and enjoyable and because I am more or less passionate about the series and the teams behind them, I will list the big cons I've experienced so far: - Skills and attributes have very little connection. Attributes affect skills in marginal or indirect ways. I hoped to see an improved version of Fallout where each attribute matters nearly equally. Instead, I really only need intelligence and/or strength and/or coordination. The rest is rubbish. - It feels painfully linear. Painfully linear. One of the awesome traits of the predecessors was their non-linear nature. In Wasteland 2 I feel locked to the point of claustrophobia. - As some others stated, the overall feeling is that the world is hollow. - Near the end of the game, and particularly in Hollywood, all quests are completed within 10 feet of where they begin. Do something super trivial for this stage of the game, get xp. Very disappointing. - Outdoorsman skill. Oh boy. It is not an investment in something useful. It is extortion. Put points in it or you can't get from city A to city B without 5 random encounters that bring you nothing. - At some point I found a very cleverly hidden sniper rifle - decent one. 5 minutes later a salesman comes in town and he has all the best weapons for this stage of the game. I have enough money to buy them all. It feels so unrewarding. - The landscape is filled with safes and chests. Half of them are rigged. Most contain junk. Very unpleasant. - In one of the cities a shopkeeper has all the top-tier weapons of each class. I can buy them all and still have some cash. I can buy all the armor, as well. And all the good explosives. And still have cash. Very unrewarding. - Hard Ass, Smart Ass, Kick Ass don't feel unique enough. The conversation branches which are unlocked with these skills are one-liners with instant xp reward. - The only aiming option, headshot, is unbelievably useless in most cases. - The game pushes hardware to the limit without amazing visual effects. - I expected a ton of bugs due to the nature of the game. The case was the same with Fallout and all those patches. And it is :) But, seriously, patch 1 is a gigabyte, patch 2 is 2.4 gigabytes. Really? - The discussion thread on steam had a message from a dev. He asked for a specific way to report bugs: reproduce at least a couple of times, have a savegame, describe all the steps and conditions for the bug, send an email with attachment and fill in all the details. No sir. That's not how you do it. It's still a 8/10 game for me. I was expecting more, after a year of delays.

This game is different. I liked the style and the atmosphere. But it feels incomplete, collectibles and secrets have zero value and there is no incentive to replay. Near the end I felt frustrated by multiple deaths caused by falling through black cracks in a black floor in a black level. Not good. Overall interesting experience, good for the 1 EUR I spent on it. Definitely not a 10 EUR title for my tastes.

It's an entertaining game, getting a bit repetitive and very, very short. Definitely not a 10 EUR title since it is comparable to some of the better online flash games out there.

I bought this game mostly because as a kid I played several pirated adventure games by this team. Visually pleasing. Some humor, but not that great. Virtually 0 replayability. In fact, having 7 characters, I felt FORCED to replay. That ship part is... outright annoying. I must say I was disappointed, but I'm giving it a 7.

Amazing visuals, pleasant level themes. After 1-2 hours some levels become too challenging for a first playthrough. And second, and third... I like challenging games, but that doesn't mean I like games in which I have to memorize the levels AND have extremely little control flexibility in order to beat them. Sorry. The fun factor weakened. Update: I played a little more until I came to a mech-themed level in which I died between 100 and 200 times. Then came a boss to which I died 10 times before hitting him the first time. I uninstalled the game. I am a person who likes Mario-like games, I completed Super Mario World and the two Galaxy games with all stars (for comparison). This one has become mere frustration.

I love this series, from GTA 3 to San Andreas. They are simply brilliant. This one is just as great but there are 2 things which are maddening. First, my PC almost died when I started this game, and it was a high-end machine at the time. Second, the last mission is unplayable on PC. This makes it 2 titles in the series which make me abandon the game at the last mission. Extremely disappointed. Because everything else is perfect, 8 is a fair rating.

Many interesting minigame types with several levels of each type. Crazy art. Overall great game if it weren't for the numerous bugs which make certain levels unplayable. Such bugs and their quantity cannot be excused in a console game priced at ~50 EUR.

I look at my Steam stats and it says I played this game for 300 hours. That says enough about this game's replay value. The story, characters, enemies and collectibles are very consistent with smart references.

After I played for about 8 hours I finally surrender on the first planet outside the Citadel. Moving around is painfully slow, the dialogues are too long and most side missions are dumb as hell from the opening sentence. The inventory is so unpleasant that I don't look at it any more. Giving it a 6 because of the effort put into the game. It works. But it's so much behind Fallout.
