Excellent film from visionary director Ridley Scott that is criminally picked apart by those with a limited ability to detect great visual and conceptual imagination grounded in reasonable science fiction. A great international cast coupled with interesting ideas that open up the world of Ripley's Alien to new possibilities. Much of the hatred no doubt is directed at what are seen to be unforgivable plot holes or character decisions, but this is overreaching. Enough easter eggs are left to remind viewers that Damon Lindelof wrote the screenplay, which is a reason enough for angry post-Lost viewers to pillory this film. A visual and thought-provoking spectacle.

0 out of 10. This stillborn disaster of a film is the only movie I have ever walked out of in a theater. This is the modern Nicholas Cage, who has of late descended to VOD and direct-to-DVD-if-even, changes reflective of his acting. Wes Bentley makes an out-of-nowhere appearance as a villain with a cast of rogues even lamer than he is, and the film offers no introduction whatsoever, as if they assumed that all viewers were ardent fanboys of the comics--big mistake. The movie was deafeningly loud, and my last nerve was fried when the transformation into the Ghost Rider character required repeating hellfire screaming at ear-bleeding decibels. Aside from Jennifer Lawrence, the rest of the cast is forgettable. John Hawkes is under-utilized, and this bleak Ozark poverty porn tale seems like a natural precursor to the nation's opiate epidemic. The ending "drama" is laughably campy.

This marketing behemoth fails to capture any of the magic or the spirit of the original Jurassic Park, and you know a movie is flawed when the two-toned blue/orange-stained CGI pales in comparison to the carefully selected CGI used 20+ years prior. The cast is uninspiring, the characters either laughably cliche or incredulously incompetent, and the Director's wink-wink "satire" of consumer culture, complete with Fortune 500 plugs IN DIALOGUE, is cloying.

With painstaking attention to historical detail and a superb cast, this small budget film seeds tension palpable long after viewing this dark beauty. Forgoing cheap jump scares and overplayed modern horror tropes in favor of atmospheric dread, Director Robert Eggers should be the future of quality horror.
