Better than DE and Torna, maybe even XB2 in my opinion, imo it is obvious that anyone who enjoys what Monolith Soft does will really enjoy XB3. The switch is hard showing its age which is going to drive away some players.

While there are some technical issues with resolution and frame-rate, XC2 is still a masterpiece IMO XC2 took me on a epic ride with a truly memorable story and characters that I really got involved with, Pandy FTW! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an epic story that has me hooked, I love the characters and I also love the English VA, this game is a DEEP JRPG that will satisfy fans of the genre, but be warned this game is DEEP, it took me 20 hours to really understand the combat and wow, the combat system is stunningly complicated but once you have fully grasped Blade/Driver Fusion combos and Chain Combos you are given control of a truly engaging, satisfying and tactical combat system that is very unique, it is worth playing this game and sticking with it just for the combat system alone imo. Once you do understand the combat it is actually rather easy as all its systems become second nature, I think now the combat system has been fully sussed out it wont be as hard for newcomers as it was for people who played the game day one, it goes to show how good it really is as it took me so long to learn it but now I have, it almost becomes second nature. This game is just full of systems and complexity which means I wouldn't recommend this for a casual gamer, this game takes a lot of dedication to really be able to see its true potential. Do not listen to anyone that has put less than 20 hours into this game and while that may sound crazy, it really is true. this game is truly one of the most involved games I have ever played but it is truly satisfying. XC2 is a special game and is not a game I will forget easily.

I am not a massive fan of "the last of us", I played it, I enjoyed it. The Last of Us part 2 plays a lot like the first one, there are improvements, especially with generational leap that the PS4 brings(I played TLOU on ps3). The TLOU2 has the same bleak style to it and personally I think the cause for vengeance was a bold plot move. this game is a typical story driven sony game and it is really well made. I really enjoy these style of games as they can tell interesting stories with fun gameplay. although replayability for me suffers, as this is not the sort of game I would play multiple times. if you want some interesting story, good cover/stealth shooting gameplay and can handle some darker themes, this is a really good game.

Smash is a proven formula and Smash Ultimate doesn't mess with that, it just dishes out what we love in a very complete way, all the characters, a ton of stages and music which would be enough for me to be honest, but there is more here, with the spirits mode that just piles on the nostalgia in a set of themed battles to classic mode and lots of ways to customize it so you can play it how you want to. If you like Smash, it is a no brainer this is the Ultimate version of Smash! When I first saw Ultimate, I have to admit I did wonder if it was a "deluxe" version of Sm4sh but once you have played it, you can really tell that it is its own game and while it builds on the past games Ultimate maintains its own style that plays differently compared to Melee or Sm4sh. There are a few games that become console defining titles and the Switch already has a few! Smash Ultimate is easily a contender for top of the pile.

Dead Cells is a fun game that can easily keep you coming back for more, it manages to get the difficulty tuned right and playing this game gives a sense of constant progression that is very satisfying as you get stronger over single runs but also overall as you get access to better weapons and upgrades. the procedural nature of the levels is done really well giving enough variety to keep it somewhat fresh for each run but the exploration never really felt that satisfying to me, it was more about getting from point a to point b but that is encouraged with time doors pushing you to rush the levels if you desire. Dead Cells is an easy recommendation although I feel I am in the minority where it didn't grab me as much as say Axiom Verge(a metroidvania that hooked me hard) I can appreciate what it does well and overlook a few technical issues.

This game works really well and has a serious amount of depth, if you like your anime fighting games this is a must play, if you like your tag fighting games this is also a game you need to check out. Anyone that cant see the depth in this game has not played it enough, yes, there is technically only 3 attack buttons(NOT 2!!!) but your partner button really acts as another attack button, this is where the depth comes in and you can put a lot of creativity into the combos. The online has been mostly smooth for me and while I still have a lot to learn, Cross Tag Battle is a unique fighting game that is really fun to play.

I got this game when it first came out, it was my first introduction to the Soulsbourne genre I died quickly and I died a lot, but I was massively put off by excessive load times, I gave up on the game as I felt the frequency of deaths just didnt work with the load times...I just recently tried bloodborne again, the load times have been drastically reduced, my frequency of dying had **** until I got good and the game started to really click with me. Bloodborne is a masterpiece, I love the lovecraftian Eldritch horror theme and how the story is told is just perfect, it plays as good as it looks although I still had some frame issues on the ps4 pro but nothing that really spoiled the experience, Bloodborne is truly one of the best games on the ps4 and will undoubtedly go down as a true classic of the genre. This game made me a fan of the Soulsborne games.

MH4U was my first MH game, I got completely obsessed with that game and have been a fan ever since. Monster Hunter World feels just like a beefed up and improved MH4U, I was worried it would lose that special something that MH4U had, but World has not, it has improved on pretty much everything, the only issue is the online, Gathering Halls in MH4U were so much fun and while people have not seemed to suss them out in world yet, Im hoping that people will eventually suss out the gathering hub and start to make use of squads. This is Monster Hunter, just better! While I score it a perfect 10, there are things I would like to see improved and that is MORE content, in previous Monster Hunter games there have been more weapons and armor variety, a lot more monsters to hunt and I hope that capcom add this back with DLC, with Deviljho a good sign that we will be getting returning monsters, there are a lot of classic monsters that I would love to hunt in Monster Hunter World.

This game far surpassed my expectations and considering that it was all done by 1 person, I decided this game deserves a 10/10, if there are any faults with the game, it would be that some weapons kind of felt underwhelming, I ended up focusing my playthrough on a few weapons only. Axiom Verge is easily one of the best Metroidvania games I have personally played and the fact that it stands next to Super Metroid is all you should need to know if you are considering playing Axiom Verge. I loved the soundtrack, the graphics and the movement of Trace was on point, some of the sound effects were a bit screechy and would be the second issue I would have with the game. The speedrun mode is an awesome addition and provides some replayability along with the randomized secret areas, I also bought the Multiverse Edition which is a great physical release, if you are a Metroid fan you NEED to play this game.

I played Pokemon Moon but quickly got bored with it and moved on and yes like a lot of people I thought Ultra Moon would be a brand new story, but as I had not finished Moon I was ok with the fact that not as much had changed in Ultra Moon. This is my favorite Pokemon game, I love the quality of life improvements and extra features like Totems, Mantine surfing and the changes to the trials. The issue with this game is only that it is pretty much the Ultimate version of Moon and not a new game, that is going to be an issue for people who have already put a lot of time into Moon, for people who have not played it, this is the not going to be an issue and these people would get way more from Ultra Moon. Having played most of the EO games, with my favorite being EO3 I was instantly at home with this game. This is a core EO game, with a basic story to drive the character based role playing that centers on your guild and characters you choose to fill it with. This is one aspect of EO that i really liked, it is really about your characters development as you attempt to conquer the sprawling dungeon. Another key part of EO is the map creation and EOV is by far the best version of this, you have more pins to place and more options to make your own map of the dungeon, the combat is also very in depth with buffs and ailments playing a key role, choose your party well as the composition will play a key part in getting through each stratum. if you like old school dungeon crawlers, EOV is a must play. only time will tell if this knocks of EO3 for my personal favorite EO game.

As a fan of JRPG's and Dungeon Crawlers, Shin Megami Tensei:Strange Journey hooked me from the start, but be aware this is not for the "casual" fan of RPG's. Strange Journey is a hard, long and deep game that rewards strategy and learning the ins and outs of the game, the difficulty can be brutal but the pay off is satisfying with a dark story typical of SMT although with a fresh setting for the series. This is one of the most memorable games I have played and represents some of the best of the DS.

I am not a huge Mario or platformer fan (2d or 3d) but I cannot deny that Mario Odyssey is an excellent game, well paced although some would say it is a bit easy, but there is plenty of challenge if you branch out from just the story. Mario controls great and there is definitely going to be some pretty advanced sequence breaking going on in Odyssey. Odyssey is an instant classic and alongside BOTW an essential Switch title. I still remember how in awe I was when i played Mario 64 on the N64 as a teenager, Mario Odyssey really reminds me of that game, it really is a true follow up to Mario 64 and while due to the times that initial awe is a little harder to achieve over my playthrough a similar awe developed for Mario Odyssey, with the 2d sections the HD rumble and motion controls and the fluid and creative movement of Mario and the possibilities each world holds. This game is amazing.

This game stands shoulder to shoulder with the classic 2D metroids such as Fusion and Zero mission(I love the handheld metroids), while it is truly a traditional Metroid game it also brings new elements to the game play and presentation, Samus Returns looks good, sounds good and plays good. If you like Metroid, then you need to get this game, it works so well on the 3ds. The only complaints I would have, is that I personally seem to get a bit of I.. guess, motion sickness from the 3d, which is totally bizarre but I think that is more me than the game, also the melee attack is a lot easier than it was portrayed leading up to the release. I personally also find the controls good, I have no issues controlling Samus and the 360 degree shooting is great. Samus Returns is going to go down as another classic entry in the metroid series and it deserves the high praise it is getting.

This is a unique and deep fighting game, that while lacking some single player content what it does, it does incredibly well. If you are a fan of fighting games then I would suggest having a look at Arms, this is a surprisingly technical fighting game, that heavily focuses on the neutral but to be truly successful you will need to master the oki and shield dashing, you are not going to mash to victory here, learning to counter punch, jump and dash correctly is very important then you have the additional strategy that the different Arm types bring to the fight makes Arms one of the more interesting and addictive fighting game I have ever played. I would give this game a 10 for what it does but a 9 due to the lack of single player content that seems to drive away players who are maybe not as into fighting games, the meat of this game is in the competitive online fighting.

Like many people, Awakening was my first FE game and I love that game, it is one of the best games on the 3DS easily. Once I had played Awakening I played Sacred stones and fire emblem on the GBA. I was a big fan of the fire emblem series at this point, then FE:Fates came out... Fire Emblem Shadows of Valentia is another brilliant game in the fire emblem series and is everything Fates should have been, although the removal of the combat triangle is not a bad addition it is also something I wouldn't mind to see return in future games, Echoes does pretty much everything right and I hope this is a sign of things to come for Fire Emblem. Dungeon Exploration impressed me a lot more than I expected although it can become a bit of a chore, this is something I would like to see explored in future games though. Currently I am not sure which game I think is better, Awakening or Echoes. That is just how good this game is, it stands shoulder to shoulder with Awakening and IMO above Fates.

I would be close to 1000 hours of playtime for KOFXIV and would rank it as my favorite fighting game of all time. Initially the graphics turned me off, but since the update they have grown on me and in action I think this game looks fine and while there may be better looking fighting games you are going to be hard pressed to find one that plays as good as this. This is a deeply technical fighting game but also easily accessible to new players(auto combos and a decent training mode although not as god as Guilty Gear Xrd's), the roster is diverse and full of interesting characters that are pretty well balanced considering. If there was anything to rate this game down on, it would be the fact I cannot find consistent online games and when I have found games they have been a bit laggy, maybe that is more my own connection although if i play with people I know we can generally get very good connection and games with little to no lag. I think this is really due to the fact that this game is just not as popular as say SFV which is unfortunate as KOFXIV is a great entry into the King of Fighters franchise and fighting game genre. The story mode is not as good as other fighting games out currently as its a very traditional format, I would like to see a Guilty Gear style story mode or Injustice. while there are a few cut scenes during the story mode they just left me wishing for more but I still found it fun to play through all the story modes for each team. There is a huge amount of content here for fans of fighting games but it is not really doing anything new, but what it does do it does it brilliantly and I just cant stop playing it, SNK have created the best King of Fighters game to date and I cant wait to see what they do next.

EMD is a good game, its just not great. There is plenty here for fans of dungeon crawlers and roguelike RPG's but it just doesn't hold up compared to the Etrian Odyssey games or the other Mystery Dungeon games I have played(I have not played Gates to Infinity) and while it should be viewed for what it is and not against EO games I just cant help but feel there is potential that was not quite reached. Recommended for fans of dungeon crawlers and roguelike games but just because you were a fan of some of the earlier Pokemon Mystery dungeon games doesn't mean you are going to enjoy this game. I am really pleased so see they are releasing EMD2 as I really feel the combo of mystery dungeon and Etrian Odyssey is a winning formula and with some small balance tweaks here and there this crossover is sure to shine.

Shin Megami Tensei 4 was my first introduction to the Megami Tensei world and boy what a ride it was. this is a JRPG through and through and is at its core a dungeon crawler although its presentation has a much grander location than just a bunch of dungeons, I was really able to get a feeling of traveling on a pretty monumental adventure although my biggest complaint for the game is the over-world map and navigating did get a bit confusing. I would have been tempted to give this a perfect 10/10, the soundtrack is outstanding, the turn-based combat very satisfying and the demon fusion has depth and I easily got hooked on fusing and leveling. SMT4 was one of the only games that when I finished it(Chaos) I started another playthrough straight away and once I had done the Law path I started another playthrough to get Neutral, the way the story unfolds was really well done and while some people criticize the supporting cast as being nothing more than placeholders for their relevant alignments, I felt the voice acting was great and the characters all come together to create a deep story that had me thinking about it well after I had finished playing. I hope to finish my neutral run soon but Im sure I will then have to do the Whites ending. I cant recommend this game enough it is easily one of the best games on the 3ds and one of the best RPG's period!

I love the extra particle effects and the hunting styles adds more depth to the weapons, I personally prefer Monster Hunter Generations over MH4U but I can understand why some prefer MH4U, the frame rate is locked at 30fps while this is not an issue with me some are not too pleased. Smash on the 3ds is truly a spectacular achievement, it runs superbly and the controls are perfect (at least for a 3ds game). it offers a full on Smash experience in your pocket and that alone is worth the price of the game, I have bought it twice so its on both of my 3ds's as its such a great game to play against friends. The only issues that could be talked about are inherent with the 3ds as a system, it is not a gamecube controller. Perfect pivots are harder to pull off consistently but maybe that is more down to my lack of skill. the screen size can be an issue when playing with more than just 1v1 but it never spoils the fun. If you do not like Smash 4 and prefer Melee I do not believe that should drag the overall score of this game down, what it does(if that is better or worse than melee is another topic) it does almost perfectly to create one of the most satisfying, deep and addictive handheld fighting game that I have ever played. Smash 3ds redefined what is possible with a fighting game on a handheld console and is truly one of the best games on any handheld ever.
