Last Breath

It feels like a great throwback thriller, one of those movies viewers will still be discovering years from now. Try to see it on a big screen while you can.

Last Breath honours the constant possibility in work like this that the worst could happen at any moment — and that the line between living and dying is always frighteningly slender.

With a running time of just 92 minutes, “Last Breath” will keep you in its grip throughout. Just remember to inhale, and exhale. Slow, long, steady breaths.

It would have been easy to inflate Last Breath’s action stakes to make them fun and absurd, but Parkinson’s nonfiction instincts as a filmmaker won’t really allow for that. I’m thankful for the meticulous realism that follows instead.

While the documentary of the same name might be able to capture the more human elements better than any adaptation could, the technical marvel of this feature film's underwater sequences is well worth diving into.

Last Breath, which runs a compact 91 minutes, doesn’t feel like a finished film: The dialogue is strictly functional, and there is so little time for establishing character that none of the three principals really makes an impression.

When it comes to shocking true stories that need to be told this film is in my top ten off one watch. I was instantly glued to the screen as I learned what the stakes were for saturation divers. This is a must watch movie for anyone who is drawn to the sea life and the careers of mariners and divers as they face unpredictable uncertainty in order to provide the things we need daily.

Greetings from Lithuania. I've never heard a story that happened in real life before watching "Last Breath" (2025). Therefore my surprise was genuine towards the story, which i won't spoil here. As for the movie itself, its a retelling of a true story on big screen. For me it barely worked. The film is a very bare bones in every department. Its run time 1 h 28 min and the last few minutes already felt like drag. It is a story worth telling albeit there is a better format in documentary. As a feature film it is very predictable in terms of film making. Overall, even at 1 h 28 min "Last Breath" managed to feel like drag here and there. It just tells this miraculous story in a very generic and predictable way, and you will forget this film very soon after seeing it.

(Mauro Lanari) In October 2023, the research team led by Sam Parnia published a discovery that challenges our understanding of the persistence and recovery of consciousness in cases of cardiac arrest undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The experimental protocol allowed for a maximum time of one hour: enough for 53 out of 567 people to survive resuscitation, 28 to respond to subsequent interviews, and 6 of these individuals to describe typical near-death experiences (NDEs). Based on these results, some have proposed redefining them as "recalled experiences of death" (REDs), but for the time being, Parnia himself calls them "AWAreness during REsuscitation" (AWARE). Alex Parkinson is content with directing a remake of his homonymous 2019 documentary based on a true story: a standard survival movie, which, with the aforementioned premises, could have been much more.

The cast struggles with a lifeless, bland script that is painfully predictable and filled with clichéd dialogue. Despite being told in 90 minutes, it felt like they could have easily cut another 10-15 minutes from the movie.

The visuals were good, but the script could have easily been written by an AI bot. Dialogue was infuruatingly generic.
