Like all the inhabitants of this carefully constructed environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to "The Island" -- reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the plant -- until he makes a terrible discovery that everything about h... The movie is more about how many things Michael Bay can smash up -- lots. That might not be a talent most people respect, but it gets through to people anyway, and here Bay does it exceptionally well.

Starts off an aggressively derivative sci-fi thriller, then morphs into an above-average chase melodrama.

Incredible movie. It's one of those rare, rare movies which actually grabs your attention and keeps you as engaged with the plot as you would be if you were in the shoes of the character throughout the entire length of the movie. It isn't a masterpiece, and it's not going to transport you to different dimensions or produce some life-altering experiences, but it's a very engaging movie, and if you, like me, feel like you have already exhausted the list of all good sci-fi movies, this is going to feel like a breath of fresh air.

There's enough fun to be had that it's almost possible to ignore the stupidity of the story and the cavity that replaces character development.

Like "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," The Island is the kind of suicidal high-concept movie increasingly prevalent these days: a film so thoroughly pre-conceived and pre-sold that most audiences know more about what's going on than the characters do for half the movie.

The first half is high-quality science fiction, the rest is a high-tech chase adventure with a gleeful yen for destructive thrills.

For all the menace of its techno-prattle, its implicit boosts for humanism and its swell production design, the picture is finally a bore. Sci-fi was more powerful when its special effects were cheap and crude, its ideas simple but potently stated.

If you find yourself at "The Island" I have only three words of advice: Vote yourself off.

Not terrible and for what it is, it's entertaining. Not exactly smart sci-fi but smart for a Michael bay movie.

Great movie! Ewan Mcgregor amazing as always! The movie is an amazing aspect on a conflicting issue the world has been debating. All the bad reviews don't get it and think its only a movie about running, when truly it is more than that. It's funny, curious, and entertaining!!

The movie takes a controversial biological/ethical issue and handles it with all the tact and seriousness **** serial. In the end its nothing more than a prolonged futuristic chase scenario with lots of color filtering (did they really have to make the ENTIRE movie look orange and blue?) It's a shame, because there were a lot of talented actors at work here...
