Enemy

Enemy is a transfixing grand slam that certifies Villeneuve as the real deal and one of the most exciting new voices in cinema today.

Not just dark but dank, Denis Villeneuve's Enemy is a surpassingly creepy film about identity.

Shot before the Canadian director made the major-studio, suburban-vigilante drama "Prisoners," Enemy operates on a level of carefully calibrated unease, where the very elusiveness of motivation and logic is exploited for purposes of sustained cinematic disorientation.

Movies about doubles are, almost by definition, creepy, but Villeneuve, not to be outdone, piles on the weirdness. He’s big on spider imagery, but the web is flimsy.

Does it add up to much? Not really. Not finally. But it’s a suggestive puzzle-box of a picture, worth turning over in your palm.

There’s no doubt that Villeneuve can make a movie; he’s developed a strong cinematic voice. It’s tantalizing to imagine what he could do with a really fine story.

It doesn’t add up to much of anything exciting, even with an appearance by Isabella Rossellini (of Lynch’s “Blue Velvet’’) as the mother of one of the doubles.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. It has the perfect balance of being open to interpretation while still maintaining central messages and themes that are objectively being driven across. Every single scene, shot, word, etc. in this movie somehow plays into the overarching idea, and so when you're done watching and you have time to digest it you immediately want to watch it again so that you can decipher it more thoroughly and pick up on things you missed. It's also very unique, as it was unlike any movie I'd ever seen before while still following the roots of any psychological thriller. Beyond that, it's a quick 90 minutes so it doesn't drag, it has a very eerie tone and a dark color scheme, it will certainly keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat, and it's very well put together. Jake Gyllenhaal kills it, as do the supporting cast. If you aren't a fan of complicated movies with hidden messages, or if you want fast-paced action as opposed to slow-burning suspense, then this movie might not be for you. However, of the movies that are like that, this is certainly one of the best ever. Absolutely loved it.

Enemy is one of those films that’s more interesting than fun to watch. Gyllenhaal’s on great form (twice over), and Villeneuve’s direction is slick and moody as ever. I was into the whole theme of self-sabotage—how bad decisions come back to bite—but it’s definitely more of a thinker than a thriller. The final scene is meant to rattle you, but it didn’t do much for me, mainly because that kind of thing doesn’t freak me out. I know loads of people who’d hate it, though. It's not a bad watch; it's just not one I’d be in a hurry to revisit.

Wait, what?? Not completely sure what the takeaway is, very vibey and atmospheric. Maybe a little too same feeling from start to finish.

Enemy just isn't my movie. I liked Jake Gyllenhaal's previous collaboration with Denis Villeneuve which was Prisoners, an excellent movie, but I'm not a fan of this. I just don't get the ending and its just so drawn out and boring. I'm sure that other people can enjoy it but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Its a good film if it made sense. The film is quite short and as you sit there watching with the ending drawing closer and closer you start to wonder when this film is finally going to piece itself together and make sense, but nope the ending is just freaky and then your sat there wondering why you even bothered watching it. After the film me and my girlfriend had to watch a 30minute youtube clip explaining what actually happened. Watch it if you like getting confused
