inFamous: First Light6
Apr 15, 2015
Finally got around to playing this. inFamous' stories have always appealed to me because they're generally pretty good. First Light for me is the least interesting in the series. The story feels weak, it's full of "filler" moments and the main character Fetch feels very much at home in a prison when she clearly has a problem with authority. It just doesnt make a whole lot of sense. I cant help but feel that if the story was better written and it got a few extra months of development time it would have been much better.

Tales From The Borderlands: Episode 2 - Atlas Mugged9
Mar 21, 2015
I must say I'm really loving this series so far. Episode 1 was a refreshing, fun and hilarious take on the Borderlands franchise with a Telltale formula. Episode 2 was just as good, if not better. If you're looking for a story-driven experience with plenty of laughs and clever dialogue then check this out.

Tales From The Borderlands: Episode 1 - Zer0 Sum9
Jan 27, 2015
Genuinely funny game from Telltale. If you like their other series like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us then you'll feel right at home here. It was a bit of a shame to see a lot of the old bugs/slowdowns coming back in - if anything their engine really does need an upgrade at this stage. Other than I cant wait till the next episode. Check it out.

Dead Rising 36
Jan 18, 2015
This was a hard one for me to score because it retains the same flavour Dead Rising fans have come to expect from the style of storytelling and camera work, but ultimately there were just too many flaws to make this a fully enjoyable experience. The game suffers from some really weird series-changing ideas that werent fleshed out fully. The "open world" sections arent nearly as cool as the first 2 games -- sure, we're no longer confined to a mall, but the world now lacks any personality and is instead just a bunch of streets and empty buildings with psychos scattered throughout in generic locations. The control mapping is incredibly clunky and the visuals do look very X360. It was awesome to see how many zombies they were able to fit on screen though, but I cant help but think if they had sacrificed some of those unnecessary 'extras' for a visual bump it would have been far better. Overall, as someone who really enjoyed Dead Rising 1 and 2 this was a bit of a disappointment.

Far Cry 49
Jan 18, 2015
I wouldnt necessary call myself the biggest Far Cry fan, although I have played FC2 and 3 but never finished them. This was the first story that really had me hooked. Pagan as a villian in my opinion was underused, but the time we did spend with his psychotic antics was incredibly entertaining. Visually, its one of the most stunning games I've ever seen, especially when on some of the hallucinogenic trips. It's also got enough to do after/during the campaign to keep you busy for a good 30-40hrs easily. Great game, check it out if you get the chance.

I really enjoyed LBP3. As someone who is fond of the first game and pretty much skipped the second it was nice to dive back into the world. Everything is backwards compatible and they've added a heap of new quirky gameplay mechanics. Really good game. Some kids might find it hard to play, especially the later levels.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor9
Oct 19, 2014
I really enjoyed this game, its everything I hoped it would be when first seeing it. The gameplay is reminiscent of Assassins Creed (free-roam, free-climbing) and Batman Arkham Asylum (combat), but it very much feels different. Even when you're completely leveled up its still possible to swamped by so many Orcs that even as a badass ranger you never truly feel safe in Mordor, this is especially true at the beginning of the game. The story was also really good as well, although at times it felt a bit thrown together (you can approach certain missions in whatever order you want, so branching side-stories can feel lost in the overall narrative). My only major gripe is that after the campaign is finished the side missions (archer, sword, dagger and outcast missions) dont have enough variety to sustain 5-10hrs of grinding. It would have been good if cut-scene side-missions were available or the side-missions already in place had more variety and better objectives.

Batman: Arkham Origins - Initiation2
Sep 7, 2014
This was a huge disappointment, I thought this was a story DLC but its not; its just a few challenge maps stringed together with a couple of 20 second cut scenes thrown in. Its horrendously overpriced and doesnt at all add anything to the story. If you want some good story DLC then check out Cold Cold Heart.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode Two7
Sep 7, 2014
I know i'm bucking the trend here, but I found Episode 2 less enjoyable than Episode 1. I absolutely adore the lore of Bioshock and any opportunity to take in those magnificent views of Rapture are always welcome, but I found the gameplay to be quite the opposite of what you would expect in a Bioshock game. Obviously with a character like Elizabeth you cant really be running-and-gunning but I found the overuse of stealth to be frustrating at times. I would have preferred if the game focused more on puzzle solving, storytelling and the occasional stealth segment than constantly having to sneak through rooms of 15 splicers who are ultra-alert to your every footstep. But thats just me. Just be prepared to stay low and slowly sneak your way through this 3hr story DLC.

Batman: Arkham Origins - Cold, Cold Heart8
Sep 7, 2014
With the huge disappointment of the last piece of DLC for Arkham Origins I was a bit reluctant to try this but I found it truly excellent and engaging. If you're unfamiliar with Mr Freeze's origins then really give this a shot. It is more of the same; predator and fight challenge segments, but its tied together very well and doesnt feel out of place with the game. The story is about 2hrs long and another hour for collectables. I would have liked to have seen more of the aftermath as the game does end quite abruptly but all in all I highly recommend this.

Mercenary Kings5
Sep 6, 2014
I personally didnt enjoy my time with this game. I really liked the art style and how it reminded me of the Metal Slug games (which I love to bits) but Mercenary Kings just didnt hook me at all. I found the controls clunky and the regeneration of enemies especially annoying. I know some people love it though so give it a shot, it just wasnt for me.

The Walking Dead: Season Two Episode 5 - No Going Back9
Sep 1, 2014
I really enjoyed this last episode. It wrapped things up nicely without feeling rushed. Some people may be a little off-put by having to make extremely hard choices (more so than other episodes) but I think this is what is so good about this series; no action is without consequence.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode One8
Aug 23, 2014
Just an overall fantastic experience to be able to return to Rapture again in this great story DLC. Its oozing with atmosphere and they've done a fantastic job of recreating a lively Rapture. My only complaint is that perhaps the story isnt as interesting as it could be. I spent a great deal of time walking around checking everything out, admiring the views and looking for collectables and it took about 2.5hrs to finish this DLC. If you focused solely on the story though you could probably wrap it up within 1.5hrs. Its short, but its very very sweet.

Hitman: Absolution8
Aug 5, 2014
I've always been a big fan of the Hitman games ever since playing the original on PC. I really liked what they did with Absolution. It is somewhat of a departure from the formula in Blood Money but I think a lot of the new features are done really well. My only complaint would be that the mission structure doesnt really suit the storyline. Its more action this time instead of the stealth the game is known for. Some of the missions are brilliant and yet others fall flat and force you to engage in action sequences. Apart from that, its an excellent game.

Murdered: Soul Suspect7
Jul 26, 2014
7.5/10 ...First of all this isnt nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It really is a great game if you're into puzzle solving and crime fantasy. To me, it felt like a cross between the games CSI: Fatal Conspiracy, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes and Fatal Frame/Project Zero. I think the biggest problem people have with it is there isnt a lot of action. Its very story driven and you interact with your surroundings as you go; collecting clues and putting the pieces together. Sometimes its not always obvious and other times the game doesnt do a very good job at wording things correctly, so sometimes your choices are hit and miss. Overall its a fun game, not much to do after you finish it but I would certainly recommend it to fans of crime adventures or the games i mentioned above. Very happy I bought it after sitting on the fence for a while.

The Walking Dead: Season Two Episode 4 - Amid the Ruins8
Jul 23, 2014
Overall i thought it was a really good episode. I have to say though that this episode, unlike any in the past, feel like character dialogue was written by someone else completely. Some characters feel incredibly out of character in what they would usually say or do and some situations dont have the obvious dialog option available at all. I really wanted to explain my actions to certain characters but the game never allowed for that, instead opting for "defensive" or just outright aggressive answers. Still, a great episode in terms of story. Looking forward to the last episode.

Watch Dogs8
Jun 22, 2014
I must admit, Watch Dogs didnt grab my attention like the hype did for a lot of people. Maybe thats why I enjoyed it more, but I honestly thought this was a fantastic game. Its not without its flaws though; the campaign becomes boring and repetitive after a while and goes from "uber cool hacking" to "generic 3rd person shooter" by about mid Act II, but it has so much more going for it. There are tons of side missions and the map is huge. It seems to me the game suffers from a bit of an identity crisis at times; not sure whether to push the areas which make it great (the hacking) further or to return to the shooter-formula. This is the kind of game that really does need a sequel to fully realise its potential but as it is it's still a great game.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus8
Jun 15, 2014
FINALLY! A return to form for the Ratchet series. After the horrible 'spin-offs' "All 4 One" and "Full Frontal Assault", R&C are finally back in this cool little adventure. Although it does feel like a shorter game, like a hybrid between a full Ratchet experience like "Tools of Destruction" and a mini-adventure like "Quest for Booty", it's still a great game. Insomniac have said this will be the last game in the 'Future' series and that really makes me sad, because all of the main games in this series have been fantastic... it's just a shame they spent so many years creating those horrible mini-game spin offs instead of working on great entries like this.

Folklore9
Jun 15, 2014

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger7
Jun 15, 2014
I was a big fan of the first two Juarez games and then "Cartel" almost single-handedly destroyed the franchise... but then Gunslinger was released and it more than made up for the disappointment. Gunslinger does a few things differently, namely the visual style and storytelling, and not everything hits the mark (the story is a bit silly and feels a bit congested at times) but its definitely a return to form for the series and a really fun game. It's also a decent length too so in terms of bang for buck you really get something that will keep you going for a while.

Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy8
Jun 15, 2014
I actually really enjoyed this game when it first came out. It's a linear experience, which is fine because the story is terrific, and the fighting mechanics are really good. I'd definitely recommend this to any Bourne fans... I always hoped for a follow up to this, it's certainly worthy in my opinion.

LittleBigPlanet Karting8

This is the kind of game you need a friend to play with. If youre playing on your own it can be quite boring and stale, which is probably why it hasnt got such good reviews... but if you've got a friend it can be REALLY fun. Online is okay although I experienced a bit of dropout but I'd definitely recommend this as a party game or something to play with a friend.

XCOM: Enemy Within5
Jun 15, 2014
XCOM Enemy Within is a great game but its more or less a carbon copy of XCOM Enemy Within. If you havent played Enemy Unknown then get Enemy Within as its got a few extra bits n pieces but otherwise if you already own Enemy Unknown dont bother, the 'changes' arent big enough to warrant a new purchase.

Mass Effect 38
Apr 24, 2012
A really cool game. Dont listen to any of the bad reviews - the ending does NOT spoil the experience, but I can admit it could have been better. Anyone who says it ruined all 3 games is just being a tool (I admit! It wasnt the best, but it wasnt as bad as I was lead to believe before actually playing the game). While its not my favourite game in the series, it is certainly worth a play through if you've managed the other games. It drops a lot of its newer ME2 gameplay mechanics (like mining), but it is streamlined for the most part in terms of story. Play it for yourself and make your own mind up. Don't be discouraged though by the people giving it 0/10 -- thats just plain stupid.
