Kong: Skull Island7
Mar 13, 2017
It is a visually beautiful movie, and there are some great moments of comic relief, but the best part is the Kong himself is ever-present. This may seem obvious, but Godzilla proved, to our detriment, that the monster doesn't apparently need to be in the movie much to make the movie (although not good). Not a perfect movie by any stretch, but overall solid, fun to watch, and a great way to bring King Kong back.

Mad Max: Fury Road10
Dec 1, 2015
This is the best action movie (maybe even best movie) of 2015. What makes this movie even better is that you don't have to have seen or remembered the first Mad Max movies to love and appreciate this one. The plot is great, the characters are interesting, and the visuals are stunning. This was easily my favorite movie this year.

The Purge: Anarchy3
Dec 1, 2015
Instead of just being exactly what it is (a normal horror/slasher film), this movie decided to had small amount of very heavy handed political messaging; just like the first one. Even if you take that away, this movie was extremely predictable. I was literally saying what is going to happen next right before it should have happened as if the writers had a 'how to make a slasher movie' handbook they felt they had to stick to. I'm sure they will make another one, because they definitely have enough to go off of to continue this seemingly forever in the way Saw did.

Exodus: Gods and Kings4
Dec 1, 2015
Getting past the obvious issues that Scott willfully to decided to cast white actors in the roles of Egyptians for no good reason, this movie's problems go beyond that. They spent a whole lot of time on Moses getting married and having a child and still we weren't able to have any particular connection to them, nor did I really figure out why Moses began to truly care for the Hebrews in this. The editing forced a jump from his lack of caring to willingness to leave his family of 9 years behind in a matter of minutes. Only an epic movie because of the vast amounts of CGI used to make grand looking scenes of disaster, but that doesn't make it good.

Gravity10
Oct 15, 2013
The cinematography and effects were astounding, and Sandra Bullock does a great job in her role. The more action-like scenes were gripping, and you just can't help but feel fear for the character's that you just met. The director did a great job not forcing suspense, but creating it quite naturally.

Man of Steel5
Jun 18, 2013
This movie had great special effects, but the plot, the characters, the acting, the rest was all just meh. I don't ever feel like I care about any of the characters. There was no amazing performance by any of the actors to blow someone away like Heath Ledger as The Joker. This was just a summer blockbuster to make money, not a good movie and kickoff of a franchise.

After Earth2
Jun 5, 2013
This was just a poor, poor movie. It was not well acted or directed. The budget must not have allowed for good graphics, because they were terrible. It was a bad Syfy original movie with Will and Jaden Smith for some reason. The plot is ridiculous and not well thought out at all. There wasn't much action to make up for the terrible acting, and in general it was just boring and bad. I give it a 2 because it's still not as bad as The Last Airbender. Thanks a lot M. Night...

Star Trek Into Darkness8
May 19, 2013
If you're just going to see Star Trek with no prior Star Trek background, you will still enjoy this as a summer blockbuster. It has action, comedy in the correct places, and is epic. If you're a Trek fan, you'll also enjoy this movie continuing a tradition of using Star Trek to question societal issues (hint without spoilers: terrorism and targeted assassinations). Kirk and Spock play quite well off of each other, and Benedict Cumberbatch was a perfect fit for the villain. It isn't perfect, but you can't really expect it to be. It's a great film nonetheless, and the series will hopefully be continued in this new timeline.

Friends with Kids7
Apr 16, 2013
Quite well done. This movie was funny in many places, and had a lot of heart in it as well. It's actually mostly formulaic, but it's a different type of romantic-comedy, that was enjoyable to watch rather than just ridiculous. As I'm getting older and seeing friends get married and have children, it's very easy to relate to each the characters. Like it a lot.

Bachelorette3
Apr 16, 2013
This was not a good movie. It wasn't really funny in any way, you are forced to dislike the characters because they are all quite terrible people or just not believable as human beings. In the end everything works out for them, but it's not what you'll want because none of them seem to deserve it. If you are expecting Bridesmaids, STAY AWAY! There's not heart in this one at all, and you'll come out completely unsatisfied.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey8
Mar 20, 2013
This movie is really good. If you're expecting a lot of action sequences, then I recommend you stay away for now. This one is charming, looks beautiful, is well acted, and has great cinematography. I'm excited to see where they go with the next two movies (and yes, I've read the book). I think the heightened expectations because of LotR caused the critics to be against it some, so don't let the sway you.

Project X0
Mar 3, 2013
How is this considered a comedy? Did anyone actually take the time to write any jokes? Nope, just got attractive women, told them to take their shirts off and pretend to be at the most unrealistic party ever. Anyone out there saying it reminds them of their party days are just lying. This stuff doesn't happen.

The Campaign8
Aug 12, 2012
I found this movie to be absolutely hilarious. It's filled with the obvious sex jokes that you'd expect, but the not to subtle digs against the current political climate was spot on. They go after the Koch brothers, campaign finance reform, both Republicans and Democrats... just way funny.

The Cove3
Jul 13, 2012
Well shot, but not a great film. It seems to make the Japanese look like such terrible people for killing dolphins just because Americans had Flipper and now care about that animal more than others. If you watched this and agree it's terrible because killing animals is always bad, then that is fine, but if you meat, then you have no basis to judge these people for what meat they choose to eat.

The Avengers10
May 4, 2012
This movie is funny, it has great action scenes, it's just a great movie. Way better than I expected it to be. The characters play well off each other and seem to be cast perfectly. I would definitely go see it again.

The Adjustment Bureau4
Aug 23, 2011
Kind of a lame movie. I didn't like the story behind the bureau itself, and everything just seemed a little convoluted. See it once, just to get it out of your system, but no need to buy it or anything. Disappointing for a Matt Damon movie.

Battle: Los Angeles6
Aug 23, 2011
I'm not sure why this movie got such terrible reviews from critics. It was a good sci-fi/action movie. The characters weren't totally developed, but that wasn't the entire purpose of the movie. The comradery that is eventually formed is very strong and a lasting message about what troops go together in times of war.

Not as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but still funny as hell. It's worth watching over and over, and these guys need to keep making movies together.

The Last Airbender1
Nov 16, 2010
Couldn't even sit through it. Just plain terrible. It's disappointing to me especially because the cartoon was so good. Way to ruin it. I didn't think something so bad could be made from this.
Oct 22, 2010
Paranormal Activity 27
Oct 22, 2010
Pretty much just like the first. I do enjoy how the first is incorporated into this one, so they happen simultaneously instead of back to back. It ended kind of abruptly, but was suspenseful throughout without even doing anything. It helped that the theater was full, but a good movie anyway.

Tropic Thunder7
Oct 17, 2010
I seriously thought this was going to be an incredibly dim-witted and just plain stupid movie, but I found myself laughing almost the entire time. I was seriously surprised at how well they are able to mock and satirize the movie industry in so many ways, and I think people need to realize that that was what they were doing, NOT trying to make fun of mentally disabled people.

Inglourious Basterds8
Oct 17, 2010
Brad Pitt doing that accent trying to speak Italian is one of the best scenes I've scene in a long time. Tarantino does a great job as usual, and gives another movie that's worth watching over and over. I'm glad **** died this time around as well.

Toy Story 310
Oct 17, 2010
Obviously a good movie. Those that gave it a score in the yellow or red are just hating because that's what they feel like doing. Every Pixar movie has been good, and the Toy Story Trilogy has been their best works. This one brought me back to when I was a kid and the first two came out, and freaks me out that it was so long ago. Thanks Disney and Pixar.

The Other Guys3
Oct 17, 2010
I don't know what it was, but I was just bored in theaters when I saw this. I like Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, but this one just didn't do it for me. Maybe I should take a second look at it, but right now I don't think this one had much of anything funny.
Oct 17, 2010
Children of Men9
Oct 17, 2010
The one long, one-shot scene alone was enough to make anyone realize that the cinematography is above the rest. The plot is interesting, and I do like where the director goes with it. I liked this movie, and was under the impression that most thought it was just okay, until I saw this page. I'm glad more people agree with me, because this one was impressive.

The Happening2
Oct 17, 2010
Just want to start out by saying I was one of the few remaining M. Night fans still out there up until this. I actually enjoyed Lady In The Water, but this movie really pissed me off. I am a huge fan of Marky Mark Wahlberg too, and he was disappointing too. He wasn't even close to the problem though. The plot of this movie kept me going, and then at the M. Night just craps on us. I don't know if that was his best idea, or it was just laziness or what, but that wasn't an okay ending. Go back to your twists, they did you good.

Dragonball: Evolution0
Oct 17, 2010
Loved the cartoon and used to race home to see it on Cartoon Network some 10 years ago, but this is a travesty. It's so dumb and sad to see this movie made this way. Thanks for trying to kill it.

Daybreakers5
Oct 17, 2010
Interesting premise, absurd fix. How does the sun cure their vampireness? Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to the movie, but I liked it as a vampire movie up until that point. And to think, I thought Willem Dafoe would only improve upon this one.
Oct 17, 2010
The Crazies6
Oct 17, 2010
An actual good zombie(ish) movie. This one is a little different then the rest, because the people maintain some personality, they simply wish to kill more. Kind of weird and creepy near the end, but overall pretty good.

Great movie. Love the dialogue, especially with Mark. I had no idea how much of a jerk he is, but I loved watching it. I couldn't help but root for him while hating him during the movie. Nicely done.

Joe Dirt8
Oct 15, 2010
I consistently record this on my DVR when it comes on TBS or something. It's too funny and stupid not to watch. David Spade is an idiot in it, but I laugh the whole way through. Friends and I still quote this movie.
Oct 15, 2010
Billy Madison8
Oct 15, 2010
This movie is a Sandler classic, and by the looks of the User Scores, most people would agree. Critics got this one wrong, because it's funny from start to finish. I'd gladly watch this and Happy Gilmore all the time.

My roommate and I watched this while hungover one afternoon, and both laughed pretty hard. It's a dumb movie, but is so stupid, you can't help but laugh.

Inception9
Oct 13, 2010
A very good movie that makes you think about dreams in a new way. I have talked to friends about dreams and the idea of controlling them, AND the idea of inception itself, and that's the kind of stuff that helps you know it's a good movie.

Piranha 3-D7
Oct 13, 2010
This movie is very funny. Don't think of it as a real horror movie. Clearly a throwback to B-movies, and it was quite fun to watch. I laughed almost the whole movie, because it was so ridiculous.
Oct 13, 2010
Leap Year1
Oct 13, 2010
My girlfriend made me see this with her, and it was awful. Extremely predictable, and just plain dumb. I'm tired of the movies with the two characters hate each other and within a few days are madly in love. STOP IT!!
Oct 13, 2010
Shutter Island8
Oct 13, 2010
I guess Leo and Scorsese are just too good together to stop making movies, and this one is no exception. Creepy at times, and it's amazing how elaborate the whole idea was in the end (obviously you have to watch to know).
Oct 13, 2010
The Book of Eli7
Oct 13, 2010
Denzel still has it, and the twist in this movie is actually a good one. A lot of movies have twists that are just plain ridiculous, and I refuse to swallow, but this one makes you want to watch the movie again after realizing something that you maybe should have known the whole time.
Oct 13, 2010
Cop Out6
Oct 13, 2010
Incredibly stupid, but still funny. I really like Tracy Morgan in this, and laughed most of the time he was speaking. He is the only reason this movie was anything good.
Oct 13, 2010
Repo Men4
Oct 13, 2010
Not a good movie, but an interesting ending. I was sad for the protagonist, but it would have been a ridiculous if everything just happened to go so well for him.
Oct 13, 2010
Robin Hood6
Oct 13, 2010
A decent Robin Hood movie. Although it mostly serious, I enjoy the little parts of humor with his Merry Men. There wasn't as much action as I expected, and that was quite disappointing. The trailers made it seem like an film with multiple epic battle scenes, but there wasn't fighting at all considering how much there could have been.
Oct 13, 2010
Splice1
Oct 13, 2010
This movie isn't good. It isn't scary, but it is quite disturbing. Although Dren looks human, she is mostly other animals, so Adrian Brody has sex with an animal. Bestiality isn't something I wish to see, and even when the animal looks human, it just creeps me out.

(500) Days of Summer8
Aug 12, 2010
Fun movie that doesn't end the way every romantic comedy ends, which makes it all the more enjoyable. I really enjoy Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this, he does quite a good job.
