Exodus: Gods and Kings

As a fictional, big-budget, 3-D, epic interpretation of Moses’ journey, Exodus: Gods and Kings is spectacular.

As uneven as Ridley Scott’s career; at times, it seems to be a journey through the director’s greatest strengths and weaknesses. The good news is that his strengths eventually win out; the bad news is all the awkward storytelling and botched character interactions we have to wade through to get to the good stuff. Once we do, though, Exodus is a hoot.

For all of the care and imagination that have been lavished on the production, which was designed by Arthur Max and photographed by Dariusz Wolski, the film’s impact is best expressed by frequent aerial shots that are visually impressive and emotionally remote.

As for Bale, he seems to have lost his compass. His accent strays, his famous intensity wasted on clunky dialogue.

If nothing else, Exodus: Gods And Kings makes it easier to appreciate Darren Aronofsky’s "Noah," which, for all of its flaws, was at least animated by a personal relationship to the Old Testament.

While the pale skin tones (bronzer is selectively applied) and haphazard mix of American and British accents is distracting, it barely scratches the surface of Exodus’s ungainly artificiality.

This eye-rollingly bad movie is silly, sluggish and miscast.

Great film. Don't care if they are all white. This is Hollywood. The location, scenarios, special effect were a complete delight. Transforming moses in a real men......amazing. Transforming God in a bully kid.......PERFECT.

I just now watched this movie after not watching it because of all the negative reviews. EG&K isn't that bad of a movie, it wasn't a great movie but it is a sum equal to its parts. Ridley Scott's films are typically more story-driven than character-driven. The plot happens just to move the story along and I think this is where the movie fails because of the character Moses and the need to really flesh out his inner conflict. The story had its touching moments like the ones between Moses and his wife. It was horribly miscast though and didn't need A-listers to promote the film as Moses is a big enough story of its own that people would have seen it for that reason alone. The cartoon was much better in my opinion.

The only way this gets a positive rating is if it's NOT compared to the classic "Ten Commandments", otherwise it's a shameful, waste of a remake. I barely got halfway through it before pulling the plug on its awfulness.

Overtly dragging and long in length but suffocating . The humanizing of a biblical villain ok long have they been marginalized like the enslaved people of Canaan. But why so dragging and unnecessary comedy of pharoses advisors downplays the dense heavy handed emotions of scenes. was Moses talking to god or just to belligerent **** angel I don't know never explained like most Ridley Scott films have dead end plot holes with multitude of contradictory explanations in films.
