The Last Airbender

He hasn't mastered the craft yet, but M. Night Shyamalan may be on to something with this action-movie thing.

Far from the catastrophe the US bewailed, but still disappointingly clunky. Notch it between Eragon (below) and Dragonslayer (above) on a sliding scale of fantasy filmmaking.

Playing a hero who's meant to be something akin to the young Dalai Lama, Ringer brings less than zero gravitas to the role. He makes the kid who plays Gibby on "iCarly" look like Sir Laurence Olivier.

Unfortunately, its positive attributes are thrown out of balance by its abundant negatives - including chintzy effects, lumbering storytelling and an overstylized, earnest incompetence that evokes "Speed Racer."

If M. Night Shyamalan sold his soul to the devil for the success of "The Sixth Sense," I think His Satanic Majesty has finally collected in full with The Last Airbender.

The Last Airbender isn't that much different from the rest of this summer's generally dire multiplex fare-from "The A-Team" to "Jonah Hex"... But it is remarkable in one respect: It's the worst of them.

Together, they embark on an epic quest across the globe so Aang can learn waterbending while constantly fleeing from the relentless Prince Zuko, the exiled prince of the aggressive Fire Nation who seeks to capture the Avatar to restore his honor. Starring Noah Ringer as Aang, Dev Patel as Prince Zuko, Nicola Peltz as Katara, and Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, the film boasts impressive martial arts choreography, grandiose scale, and vibrant visual effects. However, the adaptation faced criticism for sweeping through complex lore too quickly, leading to heavy exposition and compromised character depth. Viewing this in 2013 was a mixed yet decent experience—while the condensed plot and stiff dialogue held it back, the film's imaginative world-building and striking cinematic visuals made it a fairly entertaining fantasy watch.

I give this score because the music is wonderful and the visual effects are very good, and from the rest, it is better to read the other users, they are right.

I only hate a few movies, and this is one of them. The Last Airbender took my favorite show from when I was a kid, and might as well have taken a huge dump on it. When you consider the show's near perfection, and the fact that the movie is the polar opposite, as almost nothing goes right it's amazing. From the terribly written and wooden dialogue, to complete lack of fun that made the show so enjoyable, and the 90 minute run time to cover 13 half hour episodes. Needless to say I hate this movie to the core.
