I left during the middle of the movie. From the very first scene, there is a claustrophobic feel to the world in which this story takes place. I felt as though I was watching a horror movie and was bracing myself for something bad to happen. The main character's plight is so bleak that I couldn't enjoy any nice moments without wondering when he was going to be hurt yet again. After a while, I just couldn't take it any more. I have now seen If Beale Street Could Talk and I don't think that I like Barry Jenkins' filmmaking style.
