This movie took me by surprise, I started watching it expecting your average "spooky story" but Daniel is so much more. It works on multiple levels and you will enjoy it whether you look for "teenage drama", or "scary horror", or even if you in to more of "psychological thriller" side of things. For me personally it was a really well told story about schizophrenia/multiple personality disorder. I did not expect such a quality from this movie either. The acting from both main leads is surprisingly good, its shoot well, and the spare use of very effective CGI adds to the atmosphere.
The movie consist Elizabeth Olsen making silly faces as she moves in a dark house and... ugh, yep that's it. Its one of those time wasters that you ask yourself - why was this made in the first place?
In the food of silly and cliché possession movies that don't even try to be original this little gem truly shines. You can feel deep inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft work in this movie, the actors do a good job, and the act of "possession" is very well-thought-out and executed. One of the few truly disturbing and scary movies in this genre.
Finally, after many years of waiting we got a perfect movie based directly on H.P. Lovecraft. Great atmosphere, very decent performance from Nick Cage and rest of the crew, clearly made by folks who love and understand great master work.
I love the original novel and really enjoyed the 1974 Robert Redford adaptation. This... I'm not sure what was this suppose to be other than over budget music video. Very poor one at that.
It almost feels soulless and made purely as a cash grab. The only saving grace in this horrible adaptation is Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby.
Unbelievably boring and generic. You will need to wait 1h run time for something actually happening. And its not even interesting suspense building as you know exactly how this story will end as if you like horror movies you probably saw same thing many times already.
The design of the characters is a failure. Simple as that. I cant believe somebody draw this, then someone else approved it, made it in to super expensive CGI and again said - yes, this looks fine! How is this possible that no one said - wait a second, thy looks creepy as hell.
Its just sad, very very sad. It wouldn't even pass as a fan fiction with its massive plot hole and ridiculous "plot twists" that just don't make any sense. There is some very nice spectacle here and there but even this dont salvage this movie. Once more we saw that there were no grand plan for the story of the new trilogy. Thankfully its over now.
It was the second time in my life I walked out during the movie. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Let the Hollywood drown in its own cheep propaganda filled filth, maybe something good will eventually came up.
Its a very solid thriller with Lovecraftian feel to it. Unfortunately the last 12min or so showed a bit too much in my opinion. Still a very good mystery movie.
Ellen Page performance completely ruined whatever this picture could be. This movie strength suppose to be in interactions between two main characters and she was absolutely abysmal.
One of the very few actually good and well crafted ghost/mystery movies of recent years with creepy Lovecraftian undertone.
If you are tired of Insidious or Annabelles you will enjoy this one.
Not scary, did not make much sense, lacking anything remarkable. Don't even remember character names after watching. Also too little Bill Pullman. Seriously, what was the point of this movie?
The entire Conjuring Universe is just a bland boring jumpscare fest and "spirits" that have nothing better to do than hang out in walls and mess with us. Just end this and try making something original already. There is no redeeming features in this cliche fest.
It started very promising but then quickly went down the hilarity and down the drain. I really hate when a movie with great potential gets completely wasted by bad writing.
I had no idea that you can pack so many basic cliches in one "horror" and I use therm horror loosley. There is nothing interesting or really innovative in this movie, very cheap scares and ridiculously silly depictions of "spiritual force". They keep making the same boring movie over and over and over again these days. I suffered through the entire movie and my verdict is - if you want something little bit more from your sunday horror movie, Insidious in not for you.
Watch Hereditary.
Horrendously bad attempt at making "Thing" like creature feature. Its poorly written, bad acted with funny beatle monster thingy. Its not even "good bad" movie. Just waste of your time.
Absolutely gruesome, devastating and depressing picture. While it is very competently made and great acted (especially by Kelly Reilly) there is no beam of light or hope in it. It will left the viewer absolutely gutted. But what for? The movie would still hold its commentary without devastating ending.
Terminator II is my number one action film of my childhood. Dark Fate, following recent trend, destroys all that was accomplished story wise in T2 in favour of forced gender swapping.
Thankfully it bombed so maybe Hollywood will learn the lesson here.
This is a movie about very incompetent lady who fails as a cop, gets PTSD and after chooses to work alone in a morgue from all places. And she is terrible at her new job as well. Also there is some evil entity and poor attempt at acting.
Seriously - big budget does not equal good horror. Avoid.
Just like in the case of Hereditary, creators went in to great length in to researching the source material. Movie if fantastic, beautifully shot, with great acting and fantastic soundtrack. Again, just like with the Hereditary, if you dont fully understand the source, you can easily miss just how much detail is in this film. Eagerly awaiting third movie from this creator.
The movie sure is not great, to be honest its one of those "so bad its good" and oh boy, for the Travolta performance its worth your hour and a half time. The guys acting is insane here, if you consider it good or bad its remarkable!
What if Superman was evil sociopath and wanted to take over the world? Brightburn is basically this, it tells the same story as origins of our beloved superhero but makes him evil god of destruction. The movie suffers from lack of budget, and it shows but still its a very enjoyable twist from all good superheroes. I do hope this will get enough popularity to spark the sequel.
The movie literally mesmerized me with its stunning visuals, soundtrack and scale. I wouldn't go as far as comparing it to the classic Space Odyssey, but it landed pretty close to it! Everything in this movie is carefully and beautifully crafted, you just cant stop from watching. So far one of the best movie spectacles of recent years and something that I will watch over and over again.
Very solid body horror with some gruesome practical effects but in order to fully enjoy it you have to see the first one - also recommended if you are the fan of the genre. Plus if you are zombie movie fan, this is basically a close look at the zombie outbreak start.
Very underrated mystery/horror movie with truly dark and dense atmosphere that grabs your attention and dont let go up to the very end. Plus very unique monster idea and design.
I really dont understand the phenomena of this movie, I really dont. It wasn't scary, or thrilling, or even interesting on the technical level. There is nothing to remember. If anything it shows how easy people are manipulated by hype culture.
Europa Report is a quite unusual sci-fi found footage movie showing what if scenario of exploring possibility of life under the ice of Jupiter's moon Europa.
Its a well written and well executed thrilling story with good pay off at the end. Rare treat in found footage genre.
Another juvenile "horror" movie that depicts "alien entities" as a bored tricksters that like to mess with our heads, kids and house appliances. Nothing new or original, we saw it in dozens of other movies. I give the movie such a low rating as I`m sick and tired of this stereotypical childish depictions of "supernaturals".
Visually absolutely stunning, breathtaking and technically perfect. As far as story goes is nothing more than a ripoff of 1957 "Call Me Joe" science fiction novel by Poul Anderson with added elements from Pocahontas and Dancing with the Wolves. Cameron added nothing new to above stories unfortunately, making the entire spectacle mindbogglingly unoriginal. Undoubtedly an achievement in CGI film making but nothing more.
A parade of cliches, predictable jump scares, cgi "devil monster" thing and dull plot. But the movie gave me few laughs, unintentionally obviously.
Seriously not recommended, its just very generic and simply boring.
Absolutely fantastic horror film that shines among the flood of mediocre possession stories of recent years. Beautifully shot, well acted (Toni Collette performance especially) with great soundtrack and brilliant ending sequence. Easy 9 out if 10 from me, Hereditary restored my faith in horror genre.
Before the movie I had no idea about the real story behind it. Big plus for keeping script as close to the events as possible. "Jungle" is a very well shot showing beauty and also danger of surrounding nature. Plus great performance by Daniel Radcliffe and other cast members. Definitely one of the better man vs nature movies of recent years.
Easily the worst WW2 themed movie I ever watched, and I saw plenty of them. There is pretty much nothing good I can say about it, characters are awful and pretty much flat caricatures. The story tries to be "realistic" but with the end scene its simply ridiculous and unbelievable. Even acting falls flat with Brad being no exception. Also its hard to sympathies with a character who commits a war crime. Its more of a "video game in WW2 setting" than anything close to a proper movie.
I`m one of the people who did not get the memo that we all should praise this movie to high heavens because its Tarantino's baby.
I like his previous movies, a lot in fact. Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies of all time. But I dont get Inglorious Basterds at all. Tarantino drags the story through painfully long and pretentious dialogue that is not funny or interesting. It sometimes works in his movies, this time it doesn't. Its not a war movie, its not a comedy, nor a thriller. Its just... Tarantino. It has its moments but unlike most of his movies this one is easily forgettable.
I could not take the premise of this movie seriously, the entire plot raises so many questions I could not focus for one minute. I think other reviewers listed all the issues already. No idea why this is rated this high. The entire movie is just silly and suspension of disbelief is not enough to justify it.
I like J.J. Abrams movies and I`m a fan of his reboot of Star Trek. Not sure what happened here (well, Disney happened) but this is not a good Star Wars movie, and new Rey character is plain unlikable. Ignoring a mess that they made with the force and lore of previous films this is simply a poor re imagining of New Hope and a poor movie overall. Lowest rating for starting the true fall of Star Wars franchise.
