Incident In a Ghostland

The grisly post-torture-porn horror flick Incident in a Ghostland serves as an effectively punishing critique of the relentless misogyny that has become a staple of every stupid Texas Chain Saw Massacre knockoff that pits sexually active women against emotionally disturbed serial killers.

The structure feels fairly novel for such a B-grade fright-fest — call it Last Year at Amityville — but it’s soon outdone by the litany of torturous scenes that the director piles on one after the other.

There’s real ugliness here, with the creative torture visited on the victims being enough to unsettle all but the most hardened of horror fans. Unfortunately, the ugliness isn’t solely in the on-screen violence. Transphobia and misogyny flow through the film as much as blood, staining what might have been a solid genre effort.

It all seems slick, intense, and unpleasant in the same hollow way “Martyrs” did, because all the cruelty is so meaningless.

Wow, this is one the best horror movies that I saw in all my life. The plot is surprising in every way. The cast and everything is almost perfect and if was a huge studio behind this, like Universal, 20th Century Fox or Sony Pictures, it would be a huge instant classic, like Annabelle or Saw.

El director francés Pascal Laugier creó una gran polémica el 2008 cuando presentó Mártires, una película que sorprendió por las escenas de violencia gráfica y dividió opiniones entre la crítica. Ahora conociendo sus antecedentes se esperaba un slasher que siga ese estilo de su anterior película, mostrando escenas muy gráficas de violencia, pero el director prefirió filmar una película en donde se habla de uno de los temas principales de este subgénero del terror: El papel de la mujer. Este género fue acusado de misoginia y sexista; en la mayoría de las películas el rol femenino es representado de una manera no políticamente correctas, acá Laugier hace un recuento de esté tema poniendo algunas metáforas que refuerzan el mensaje que se propone. Narra la historia de unas jóvenes que se mudan con su madre a un casa nueva, la primera noche un grupo de asesinos las **** sale de los parámetros del slasher contando una historia distinta con un giro al final. Una película aterradora, sin valerse de escenas extremadamente violentes, pero que coloca a Laugier como un director con un buen futuro.

Terrible crap how someone might like this movie, a lifeless and boring movie. I just wished this boredom would end.

I was expecting more from this film. In my country, this got 18+ rating, while there wasn't any scene that I rate like that. Dont watch if you like good horrors.
