I liked this movie but I don't think it was anything special. It had some impressive camera work and an interesting plot, but the characters seemed really flat apart from one who actually had an interesting backstory about how he ends up in the situation. It was all a bit long and drawn out and the music tended to be quite jarring during some of the rather mediocre action sequences. Pretty bland.

I really enjoyed how they did this adaption. A lot of the thoughts and mindset of characters can be lost when paper is translated to screen, especially when the story is one of King's - who tends to rely a lot on inner monologues. This movie managed to show all of this in a very cool way that also makes sense considering the main character is handcuffed to a bed, traumatised, dehydrated and hallucinating. The acting was spot on in my opinion - apart from a slightly blank-faced child actor, who still did a good job considering the role she had to play - the characters were sleazy, angry, catatonic and surprisingly funny when they had to be. Netflix is doing a really good job on these King adaptions. Shame the same can't be said for Sony - but that's a review for another day.

Good movie that stays relatively true to the original story, apart from the very end scene when I was expecting the Ghost Busters theme to play (but the original one - I'm not that mean). Very good lead actor, but they should have gotten into his head a bit more for his reasoning behind the crime - it was ultimately an evil act, but hearing the his thoughts in the written version made me understand - if not sympathise - his crime a little more. Overall I found it a very enjoyable film - a horror that gets under your skin without forcing jump scares down your throat every five minutes. The cheesy ending didn't change anything important about how the story ultimately ends, though I do feel that people might find it all a bit dull if they haven't read King's version first.

There's an interesting phenomenon to be seen in the reviews of this movie: Many of the people giving it good reviews have only ever written reviews about this single movie - Make of that what you will. Anyway, I've just seen this movie myself after deciding to rent it on YouTube to enjoy a quiet night in. It started well enough, with an intriguing continuation of the Turner family and a fun and exciting action sequence shortly after that really captured the spirit of the old movies - then the mediocre story, recycled villain (literally another captain cursed to roam the seas with a ghost ship - only this time he isn't a pirate) and relatively boring music track kicked in and ruined it all. It wasn't as terrible as the last one, but it certainly doesn't stand up to the first three. I'll be fair and give it a five, because I understand that I'm much older than I was when I watched the original trilogy, and shows like Game of Thrones and Walking Dead have given me a lust for the blood of main characters that a Disney movie isn't really going to fulfil, but there's definitely some of the original charm and passion of the older movies missing in this one.

They really captured the feel of the first movie in this one, the world was just as futuristic and corrupt and modern day CGI really helped flesh out the cinematic style. The story was solid and entertaining and most of the characters played out exactly as intended. My only problems were with Gosling - who can pull off an emotionless replicant pretty well, but isn't very good at expressing emotion later on as his character develops, and the music didn't really compare to the incredible soundtrack they had in the previous movie. Other than that it is a very good continuation of the Blade Runner story and I would defiantly recommend seeing it on the big screen to get the full experience.
