If you need to be reminded that are actually still very well developed, written, acted, and directed movies being made in Hollywood, albeit very few...this is it.
Google Jim Cummings. Watch the Wolf of Snow Hollow first. This guy is the epitome of what most people mean, when they use the word talented.
Not much is not perfect in the film noir throwback. Every caharcter has meaning, and the interaction is a domino effect of happenstance.
* I see probably 75 to 80 movies a year, snacking on bad series in between on streaming sites, and this IS THE BEST I HAVE SEEN IN A COUPLE OF YEARS besides SISU.

Oh my Gaawd what a complete waste of enormous acting ability. I cannot bare Hollywood taking books that are mildly interesting, then making movies out of them that are far less creative.
This movie is a perfect example of that. It is boring, uneventful, and horribly lacking fleshed out character development. Write a story on a sheet of plywood, then extract, randomly mind you, a couple paragraphs, and produce a movie on that
Aside from Jodie Comer's fantastic persona Americana impersonation, everyone else has so little to work with, it is painfully obvious after the first 30 minutes.
Nothing really happens till the end, and it's horrible. " Hey look, a bunch of guys with no jobs getting drunk and sitting around all day "
Let's make that movie. Tom Hardy is so subdued he comes across as amusing. Michael Shanon has a couple good very emotional scenes, but they are destroyed by excessive and unnecessary vulgar language that destroys the depth of sincerity of the moment.
I could have written this crap on a few bev naps in 15 minutes.

Small movies beat the snot outa' big Hollywood. You know why? Because characters are believable. This movie made me grin constantly. Steve Zahn has always flown under the radar, as has John Magaro.
But when you see them in a thing, you say " ohh, that guy.I like that guy ".
Crafty writing. Good acting. Smart cast. Perfectly horrible small town.
