Dragon Age: The Veilguard

It seems either EA or new BioWare do not understand Dragon Age, and continue to deviate further from the dark fantasy role playing in favor of of action adventure with a dialogue wheel for children. Dragon Age the Veilguard's role playing mechanics are very shallow. Our main character Rook has very limited range. Nice, cruel are almost the same. Is someone being rude like the 1st Warden? Want to tell him to kick rocks? Nope. The trailers leading up to the release of The Veilguard focused on the companions. Which is hilarious. Using them as a selling point. I get many of BioWare games companions are well regarded. The companions in Veilguard, are middling at best. But here is the flaws with that. In all the other Dragon Age games you could miss recruiting companions! To name a few, Leliana, Sten, Oghren, Isabela, Sebastian, Blackwall, and a few others. You could even refuse recruiting them. In Veilguard they have lame entrances that show their names. Trying to make them seem larger than life, when in fact they are forgettable. Even Wynn in Dragon Age Origins is memorable and didn't require an epic entrance with a splash screen. You can't decline, check, dismiss or if extreme enough kill a companion. Again, little role playing. Animations and mouth synchronization for a 9th generation game is sad. Rook looks awkward and out of place a lot of times. Has 3 default poses while speaking. The game is Rated M, and I'm not sure how. Veilguard is sanitized. Disney-fied. Very little confrontation, curse words, or uncomfortable topics or situations. It seems new BioWare doesn't want to offend anyone. It makes sense if you look at the studio head. And again, Dragon Age is victim to a lack of consistency from entry to entry. Either EA or BioWare are scared to compete if the genre, or incompetent as to why Dragon Age was so successful. Either way, they won't care and they'll stroke their precious Mass Effect, as it will benefit from this abominations failure. It's such a shame, that this series has fallen so far down after 3 quality games. (2's issues lie within a short development time thanks to EA)

Starfield is a solid game, but looks fairly dated, and does not seem to truly harness the power of the 12TFLOP XBSX. Gameplay mechanics are nice, engaging, and undoubtedly Bethesda. Bugs are of course present, but they seem less disruptive then Bethesda RPG'S of past. The voice acting is good, the soundtrack and audio are fantastic. Piloting our ships is fun, but definitely leaves something to be desired. Ship customization is awesome, as is building your outpost on Planets and Moons. Several of Bethesda's Todd Howard's claims about Starfield were either great exaggerations, or flat out lies. This isn't charming, and shouldn't be hand waved. Verified purchases need to be a thing Metacritic. I purchased the Collector's Edition of Starfield for my Xbox Series X.

Final Fantasy XVI is a solid game. Pro's: The soundtrack is very good. The characters are enjoyable, Clive, Cid, Gav, Joshua, and Jill are all very likeable. The voice acting is solid. Con's: Let's get the combat out of the way. Sure it's "fun", however it is a complete clone of Devil May Cry. Swings are nearly the same, the "Devil Trigger" is the same. It's all far too familiar, and lacks originality. Sure the Eikon battles can be epic. However, even those at times can lack inspiration. The visuals are not that impressive. For being a PS5 exclusive I was expecting more. I feel like it could have been on last Gen as well. Character models look uninspired, move minimally and go into poses during conversation. But I guess that could be nostalgic. The open areas are far too empty, items in the world are waiting for you to pick up with a large white glow. It feels uninspired. Overall I feel like Final Fantasy wanted to be something else, rather than what made it an iconic franchise. I understand others are rating it highly. I don't completely agree. This doesn't make it a bad game by any means, it just isn't anywhere near an A grade.

Forspoken is a Action Adventure RPG, with loads of fun magical combat, with plenty of interesting enemies, and diverse bosses. The magical world is interesting, and stunning. With its biggest shortcoming is the "feeling" of emptiness. The banter between Vambrace, and Frey can at times be repetitive, but the banter between them makes sense, especially considering Frey's unfortunate life. All in all, Forspoken is a solid fun experience that can be enjoyed by many.

Uncharted 4 is undoubtedly the worst entry in the Uncharted franchise. Yes the graphics look great on a base PS4, even better on the PS4 Pro. Voice acting very good, soundtrack is nice, some missions are fun and well thought out. But there is 1 severe issue with the entire game. Spoiler Alert! After 4 entries, entering 4 (including Golden Abyss), how the hell are they going to wastes Nathan Drakes "End" by shoe horning a brother in, and then proceed try to catch everyone up , and make us care about this long lost brother in 1 game, after 0, 0! Mentions of a brother in any of the other 4 games It is ridiculous, and took away from the cast we already built rapport with, and had feelings for. I'm not sure how this gets overlooked in the reviews. U4 was a big let down for me as a big Uncharted fan.

After completing Shadow of the Tomb Raider back when it originally launched in 2018, I felt that it wasn't quite as good as it's 2 predecessors; 2013's Tomb Raider, and 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider. Which both I thought were among each respectives generations best games. After replaying it recently, it has shifted my perspective quite a bit. The graphics still hold up very well on a PS4 in 2022, even better on a PS4 Pro. But on a PS5, it looks great! The soundtrack is excellent, sound effects are very good, as well as the voice acting. And the set pieces are absolutely stunning! The game play and puzzles are a complete blast. There were some cool mechanics that I wish would have been expanded upon (mud and leaf walls for camo), but they were still fun additions. To close, and to avoid spoilers, the story is quite interesting., and it was a solid "closure" for Camilla's Survivor Lara Croft. By far the best in my opinion.

Overwatch "2" (it's really just Overwatch 1) is egregious on many levels. Which, I'm certain Microsoft's Xbox is loving. Monetization is the focal point of the game. Getting users to break, and spend money on OVERPRICED skins. At no point should a Character outfit ever be a 34d of the price ****. Activision Blizzard (as well as other Publisher's including Xbox) is unbelievably greedy, and should not be supported. Overwatch is also broken. Hit boxes are broken, UI is flat and slow and pushes the user to the store. Rather than fun, it again is focused on user spending. Screw this "game", more like store.

Here we go again. Madden NFL 23 is back, and just as poor as usual. Latency filled menus, poor graphics, same crappy canned awkward animations. Same crappy character creation pictures, with the same on field issues as usual. Sliders don't work, jersey animations are horrible, and they were so lazy that they didn't even properly animate the jersey untucked! They just added a strange looking cloth around the waste. I've always felt they never tried, and that it was just the suits pushing the game out. But these devices can't be trying... do they have any pride?

Saints Row (2022) is absolutely awful. But for a fan that started on the original Saints Row in 2006, this game is a complete embarrassment. But, Saints Row has been an embarrassment since The Third. I genuinely feel as though fans have forgotten how well written Saints Row and Saint's Row 2 actually were. Sure, they had their over the top moments, but the character arc for just about everyone was amazing. From Troy, to Julius,, to Benjamin King, even Gat was great. Shaundi IN 2 NOT 3 was great as well. Saints Row was at its best when it wasn't trying to "find its own identity", possibly off. You were better when you actually were trying to compete with other open world criminal style games. Now we have a bunch of weird, quirky, unrelatable hoofs with their lame quips and 1 liners blowing stuff up. It has no soul at all. It's sad to see that sharp decline of Saints Row after SR2, but I guess this is what you get when some fans and "critics" praised the garbage that was 3, 4, and the Gat out of Hell

Elden Ring is undoubtedly another "Souls" game. And that, at it's core is perfectly fine. HOWEVER, From Software truly struggles to differentiate their games. If you have played Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, DS2, DS3, Bloodbourne, and Sekiro (a Souls like Tenchu) you will almost immediately recognize the same tired animations, "bonfires" and sound effects. For the hardcore fans that is all they play, they may feel right at home and comforted by a few of the reskinned enemies. If this were EA or Ubisoft they would be crushed. But somehow FS gets a break and praise. Not from me. Again FS releases another poorly optimized launch for their already tired and uninspired combat system. The graphics are as usual From Software, under par. But sure the world has a very pretty "Set Piece". The soundtrack is minimal as usual. But nicely done. Voice acting in Elden Ring is decent, as is the story. But that isn't "the point" right? It's about overcoming challenges..... and the biggest challenge with From Software is their inability to make a new IP without making it feel the same as their prior work. (An example being BioWare's Dragon Age, and Mass Effect are made by the same group, same genre and play completely differently. Elden Ring is solid. But hell no is this game near perfect. I am worried about those who reviewed it. It seems like bias fans reviewing it

The soundtrack is great, as are the sound effects. That said, there are 2 glaring flaws that are holding this game back from am 8 or higher.. It seems Jim Ryan and other PlayStation executives have seen the success of other greedy predators (WOOPS, publisher's) like Phil Spencer and Xbox (who's Forza Motorsport 5, 6, and 7, Halo Infinite, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Gears 4 & 5 all have filthy Micro-transactions in them) and pushing Polyphony Digital to do the same. Some cars can cost up to $29 real world dollars. It's foul, and has been unlike Sony up to this point. Now, I will not be overly slamming Polyphony Digital for the always online connection for the Single Player portion of GT 7. But it is unacceptable. I personally have come not to expect much from PlayStation when it comes to server side support because they have routinely cut support for their games much earlier than their main rivals Xbox. That said, it is still BS as no Single Player portion of any game should rely on internet connection to servers. Stop it. Games are not a "Service". And they should not be treated as such. Halo Infinite has factually less content than Halo 3,at launch, with more than double the development cycle. How does a Halo launch without Team Slayer? You bet that Micro-Transactions storefront was working day one though. Again, no forge at launch? The Banished are cool enemies, but again the way the world was laid out, you can not go back and explore. Yet it is being presented as a "open world" So if you miss something you have to restart the whole story. Microsoft and Xbox present this package as a "Games as a service". But what they really mean is they ship and incomplete product, and patch it on the go until it is deemed "good enough" and charge for a ton if overpriced "skins". See Ryse, Halo 5 Guardians, Halo Wars 2, Halo Infinite, Gears of War 4 & 5, Forza Motorsport 5, 6 and 7, Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, and even under MS Publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider had Loot Boxes. Halo Infinite is a oriented example of Xboxs greed. The GTA Trilogy "Definitely Not Definitive Edition" is sad. Because if done correctly, this could have been one of the, if not the greatest Trilogy ever assembled in 1 package. Instead we got a busted, lacking attention to detail, and even the game directors mocking the critical reception as if we are crazy. The soundtrack is completely unacceptable. Either bring every song that is in the original game, or dont bother bringing any. The greed on either Take-Twos side, or the music industry's (I believe both) is BS. Come to terms, get the music! The graphics are okay, albeit a little odd at times. The visual atmosphere is really missing in San Andreas. The performance is unstable, which is comical on PS5. Why can't we get a Native 4K, locked 60FPS on all 3 games.... which are Cell Phone Ports! Speaking of which. Mobile Phone Ports to home consoles, and PC!? Are you kidding me? What a Joke! And those who enjoy creating things can lose hours creating a Stadium. Onto my complaints. The graphics are disappointing. As I was recently playing MLB The Show 20 on my PS5, and I can hardly tell a difference. And that's a bummer. Uniforms still have clipping. When zooming on a players arm during a RTTS training session, the players skin is muddy, and the team logo starts to blur and have severe aliasing. Not here to review bomb. But to speak about an honest experience. People have claimed that Cyberpunk was just too ambitious **** for underpowered 2013 hardware. 1st off, that was what they were initially targeting. Secondly what does Cyberpunk truly do that is so ambitious? Multiple avenues of approach? Several games do that. Multiple endings? Again many games do that! Large open world? Again, done many times before. What's truly so ambitious? Cyberpunk is riddled with bugs. From textures not loading in for several seconds, characters faces not moving while talking (and people had the nerve to mock ME: Andromeda over this), characters in T Poses, and inanimate objects killing the main character. And the framerate is horrendous. Unplayable at times. And the graphics? Certainly do not match the several showcases,, not even on a High End PC build.. Complete false advertisement! The resolution is horrible, sub full HD in the era of 2160P. To say that I look forward to the free PS5 "upgrade" would be a lie. It is obviously at least 6 months away with the current state of the PS4 (Pro), Xbox One (X), and even PC, it's unlikely that it will be impressive. It's obvious that just the currently released Cyberpunk 2077 needed another 6 months. Let alone 3 different next gen versions Cyberpunk is very flawed,, with

Absolutely horrendous frame rate. Some areas are borderline unplayable. Such a disgrace coming from the spiritual successor of Demons Souls. Not sure how this game is rated so high

Astro's Playroom isn't just an introduction to the PS5, and the DualSense controller. It is also a nod to the great history of PlayStation. But within that, is a great platformer. Good visuals, tight controls, nostalgic sounds with some iconic soundtrack notes. Astros Playroom is a very good game that could have been sold for 19.99. But was free, which makes it even better

Demon's Souls Remake is truly remarkable. A proper remake, true to the original. Demon's Souls Remake looks stunning, sounds ominous, and feels silky smooth unlike many of From Softwares poorly optimized games that regularly have severe frame rate problems. Highly recommended!

EA Sports UFC 4 is a solid game. It is ever so slightly improved over UFC 2 & 3. The stand up feels more fluid now that the clinch is free flowing as part of stand up. Grappling still ****. Not sure who thinks holding your stick left or right waiting for a meter to fill is engaging, but they are wrong. Sound effects are okay. Graphics are still sub parts for a late 8th generation release. The Career Mode is great, and the best part of UFC 4 next to Fight Now. Fighter selection is very good. Some glaring legend omissions are a bummer. Such as Randy Couture, Ken Shamrock, and Frank Mir. Theu added ads, which is ridiculous. EA is still greedy as ever.

Marvel's Avengers is absolutely a blast. Great combat, excellent story, good soundtrack and for the most part great voice acting. Travis Willingham is a very good voice actor, but his Thor can be hit or miss. As a "Looter" Marvel's Avengers does a very good job. I actually enjoy the fact that the loot doesn't change the look of your characters "armor" or appearance. I don't know how many times in other games that I have been frustrated by the appearance **** drop, and opted to keep the lesser of gear because it looked better. The loot is diverse, and there are plenty of drops to go around. And there are a diverse selection of missions and content. This is not half baked! Crystal Dynamics has delivered the Marvel's Avengers game we have been missing. Sure it is a "looter", but it surprised the hell out of me

Madden NFL 21 is nearly the same game as Madden NFL 13 on the PS3. Same animations, body sculpts, and gameplay. Thr graphics a poor.. I am not sure how they can not be better, they are only slightly better than Madden 13's, with just a resolution boost. Franchise Mode is yet again neglected, in favor of new ways to take money from idiots who spend money on UT. The Yard is unwelcome, I am not sure why some critics praise a new mode, after the mode most play FRANCHISE is neglected... X Factors are great... that's about it I had to adjust my previous score of 5 because EA thinks they can patch in the mediocre QB Kaepernick and the critical reception will go away. NO F YOU EA. Fix Madden

We are given 1st ever scenarios such as 1st contact situations and as well as colonizing new worlds! Ryder is a new unestablished character that we put our mark in. The supporting cast is also solid. Still, TO DATE in the year 2020 Mass Effect 3 is by far the worst Mass Effect. Clearly losing the RPG elements to favor a on rails 3rd person action shooter, ME 3 is a mockery. You can not even holster your weapons. Each level herds you forward to the next arena for a fire fight. This is not a Mass Effect game. It is clearly here to prey on Mass Effect nostalgia and reach the biggest audience possible. I can't believe it was rated so highly

Broware clearly wanted to make Dragon Age II for a more casual action oriented audience. And so it does take a slight step back as far as world building. But Dragon Age 2 does still have plenty of charm

Undoubtedly one of the most overrated games ever made. Combat is a little floaty. Geralt is bland. "But that's how Witcher's are supposed to be". Sure, but other stoic characters have been much more appealing. Despite being hesitant to bother with Witcher 3 after playing the awful Witcher 2, all the praise made be ignore it and give 3 a chance. And boy did I regret it. The game just couldn't pull me in. I gave it 2 tries once on my PS4, and thought playing on my XB1X would change it. It didn'tand couldn't finish it. it.
