Ryse: Son of Rome

When I finished playing this game, I felt like I wanted more. That’s the mark of a good game.

Even with its faults, Ryse is a game that one should experience as it does offer a glimpse of what next-gen can be on the Xbox One.

It’s a shame there appears to be components of the Kinect-only version of Ryse in the final product, which would account for the design that bounces between overly easy and challenging.

The perfect launch game, doing nothing new, arguably less so than current gen games but adequately showing off the new hardware - think of it as a tech demo with quick time event executions and you will not be disappointed.

Ultimately, however, while there's fun to be had, Ryse: Son of Rome is a little too shallow to conquer the Xbox One's launch lineup.

For lack of a better description, it’s Microsoft’s attempt at a more realistic version of rival Sony’s highly successful mythological God of War series. But where the PlayStation’s brawler games have been inventive and varied in the action and scenarios they’ve thrown at players, Ryse is a monotonous drone that keeps pounding the same one note over its 10-hour-or-so campaign.

A shallow and unambitious tech demo, of the sort that console launches specialise in. The action works perfectly well but it’s instantly repetitive to the point of inanity.

In 2025, where games have become long, boring, and lacking in ideas and good storytelling, this game, released over a decade ago, boasts a fantastic story, combat, progression, and unique gameplay. Even after more than 12 years, we haven't seen a game like it. It will remain one of the most beautiful short games I've played.

Ryse: Son of Rome, desarrollado por Crytek, me parece un juego muy “de extremos”: visualmente es impresionante, incluso hoy se ve sólido gracias a su increíble dirección artística y su recreación de la Roma antigua, con mucha fuerza cinematográfica y momentos bastante espectaculares en **** mejor del juego es sin duda su apartado gráfico y su presentación. Tiene una sensación muy “épica”, como si estuvieras dentro de una película histórica interactiva. Los combates, aunque simples, tienen buen impacto visual y son satisfactorios en lo **** embargo, sus problemas son claros: la jugabilidad es demasiado repetitiva y no evoluciona lo suficiente a lo largo de la historia. También le falta profundidad en sistemas de progresión o variedad de mecánicas, lo que hace que a medio juego empiece a sentirse algo **** resumen, es un juego que impresiona más por cómo se ve y se siente que por cómo se juega. Entretenido, pero limitado.

I’ve always wanted to try this game, and I did many years later. Everyone said it was too repetitive, and they were right. The fun turned into an unpleasant routine.

Empire of boredome... Game is beautiful even in 2023. Camera is terrible and may make you sick, and I am not that type of person talking about camera angles in games. Gameplay is run forward and press hit to beat all enemies, which are only 3-4 types. You will not miss anything, if you skip this game.
