One of the best Mana games out there. Top notch in all categories and heavily underrated by “critics”

Hollow Knight original was more fun, compact and forgiving. It took me over 100h to complete it properly and I was exhausted by the end and not in awe of the game. Just a slog.

Decent conclusion to the Kiryu story arc. Not as good as Yakuza 0 or Kiwami 2. But still gives you the Yakuza goodness nonetheless. Mini games were not great in this one though. Clan Creater was pretty rubbish.

Sonic x Shadow Generations10
Nov 18, 2024
Everything that is good about Sonic is present here. It is wholesome, great level design, pumping soundtrack with both new and old takes. The Shadow levels are high octane free flowing levels which is even better than the core game. As a Sonic fan since 1992 only high praise here

Excellent single player experience and my favourite of the series. The **** slaying, the action sequences, levels, story and hidden areas all make it worthwhile. Has two storylines to follow also which make it that bit more rewarding.

Best in the series so far. Loved the ride of going through all the adventures from 1-7 and this being a culmination of that. From that perspective it really is perfect.. So sad to see people review bomb this game with 1 of 10. Even if you were salty rate it based on its actual worth not a 1…

Biggest issue with this game is the backtracking. There are a few fast travel points but the backtracking is still some of the worst. So you burn through time doing that and trying to figure out where exactly do you go next. You end up losing a lot of time doing this. Otherwise it is a nice little package and does offer some decent indie moments with its 8-bit NES inspired graphics and chip tunes.

A solid 7. No more no less. On the positives the graphics and soundtrack are super cool and very unique. However, it is very linear and quite flat in terms of the gameplay, uninspiring even if the story itself has heartfelt moments.

Game is a dumpster fire. Controls are awkward, terrible. Looks cheap with childish themes like a skateboarding bird, ant jokes etc. Nothing actually satisfying in this game that has actual meaning. When I pick up to play the question I ask myself is - why am I playing this? What is the point…no awesome boss battles, deep themes, just bouncing around all over the shop to “save my boyfriend”

Probably an 8.5/10. Great amount of content and a good challenge with beautiful pixel art and music. The attack button and main weapon a bit simplistic and doesn’t feel great. OtherwIse there are plenty of expansion tools and things to explore/find. Great value for money and a must buy for metroidvania fans.

Prob around 7 tops. You literally walk around collecting things in order to make spells. There is some novelty to it however by the time you get to the late stages of the game it gets a little ridiculous. Shame as the graphics, dialogue and mini-stories that make up the game are all well done. Instead of giving the game more depth you spend almost ten hours picking up stuff…

Fun game with unique graphics and weapons mechanics. I enjoyed the 8-10 hrs of play through from start to finish. My only criticism is how to get the best ending it is not really clear how to do so. Had to Google it…didn’t like the random nature of that.

Demon's Tier+7
Apr 19, 2022
A fun little isometric rogue-lite game with strong 90s SNES influence in both the graphical style, vibrant colours and synth music. Had fun with it. Is challenging however doable especially the first two difficulty levels. The final difficulty level was a step to far for me (couldn’t keep myself entertained that long). It is fairly basic in terms of storyline and depth, but that just makes it easier to pick up and play. Most people will enjoy this pixelated fun fair

Found the game disappointing. Empty streets and a strangely desolate city without depth, below average fighting mechanism, plenty of minor glitches, terrible endings ( all of them ). Just unsatisfying and unfulfilling. Not sure if the world was even as big as it was made out to be, however, it just felt empty anyway...

Batman: Arkham Knight0

Overrated and up-voted by incessant Batman fan boys. From a neutral perspective I found the combat lame, Batmobile driving mechanics terrible and the Riddler sections absolutely excruciating. At least the atmosphere was good along with the freedom to roam around on side missions. Solve all of Riddlers 200+ puzzles to see the true ending - you kidding me????

This game, for its genre is as close to perfection as it gets. Really what does it do wrong: Positives:
+ Some of the best pixel art I have seen
+ Awesome soundtrack pumping throughout
+ entire game audio spoken instead of just written like most other indie games
+ really fun gameplay + fun two player coop mode
+ plenty of different weapons to collect
+ lots of variety in gameplay
+ no bugs or long load times Negatives
- would have been good to have had some more character variety based on skills (not just aesthetic)
- no power up or grading system

7.5/10 - Isometric hack n slash. Fast fun is the best way to describe it. Doesn’t take itself too seriously and not overly long game (doesn’t overstay it’s welcome) Positives
+ the right amount of difficulty and playtime
+ good soundtrack
+ fun ride Negatives
- long load times
- no explanation whatsoever on what to do in platforming areas can leave you wasting time dying repeatedly mashing buttons to figure it out
- some glitches (minor)

Some of the ratings here are a little harsh for a game that doesn’t really do much wrong and is still fun to play. Just because a game doesn’t offer “anything different” doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it or it isn’t worth playing especially if you are into retro games. Pros
+ cool 8-but retro graphics
+ great soundtrack
+ nice variety of levels and longevity of gameplay + original weapons system mechanics
+ good $$ value + nice presentation and cutscenes Cons
+ Simplistic gameplay
+ fairly bland story
+ not a lot of replay value

Cathedral (2019)6
Dec 23, 2021
Too long and too laborious. Bigger maps and longer playthrough arent necessarily better games. Had they had made this game a bit smaller and tighter, focusing a more on improving the 8-bit graphics, audio and execution it would have been an overall better experience. This game got worse the longer I played **** started as an 8-9 and went down to a 6... Positives
+ some nice variety of areas, enemies
+ plenty of little secrets to uncover
+ OK pixel art and audio
+ some smart boss fights to figure out Negatives
- too much time wasting traversing due to map design and time wasting on some puzzles
- drags on and on
- random difficulty spikes in places In all, metroidvanias should be fun explorative journeys that know when to call it time out...

Essentially this is an isometric arcade style action hack n slash spread across 4 levels. You will need to play through many times (almost like a Rogue-like games) each time getting a little further in order to win as you only have 3 lives at your disposal (no continues). As an average player took me 5 days of play (about 2 hours of playground a day) on hard mode and you need to play it consistent to keep with its fast pace. Positives
+ very fast paced exciting game
+ beautiful pixel art
+ awesome sound track
+ the characters, coop and different game modes Negatives
+ short game. Full play through is around 20-30 min
+ not a lot of replay value

Iconoclasts6
Oct 9, 2021
So what is Iconoclasts all about you wonder (or not)? It is a 2D platformer (with metroidvania elements) that I saw on a Youtube ‘Top-10’ so naturally I was intrigued. The story develops, gets deeper and more twisted as you progress with a lot of effort having gone into the character development that I don’t often come across in most games. Hence, quite a bit of time goes into the plot and key protagonists, however, too many speech bubbles to skim through and the game really does take you on a bit of a tangent. The big brain-twister here is how the cute and perfectly pixelated graphics contrast heavily against the backdrop of a dark and violent adventure. And this is one place where Iconoclasts really does shine. The graphics themselves are beautiful with many difference backdrops, the most interesting (at least for me) being a trip to a space station in order to meet the space alien creature worshipped throughout the game by “One Concern”. The bosses also look both epic and beautiful with some of the best pixel art I have seen that again shows the amount of work and love which went into the game. So then how does the game play? Well it is a mixed bag, controls-wise it can be fidgety especially in boss fight with some pretty useless upgrades you can add to your trusty spanner - but here is the thing - I didn’t think it was that much fun. Sure the exploration was good, but the puzzles were not that exciting and I got lost quite a few times not knowing where to look whilst annoying tunes were constantly being played back. I didn’t get the same buzz I usually do with many other similar genre titles. In the end I was really just racing to finish the game which defeats the purpose and for that reason I would say that if this is a game you miss out on playing I really don’t think you are missing much of an ‘experience’ anyway.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics7
Sep 19, 2021
Follows the Netflix story so if you have not watched that you may struggle to be inspired. It, however, a ‘cute’ and enjoyable game especially when you go deeper into it and have to get more tactical with your choices. Not something you will necessarily treasure and that will last in memory though.

Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection5
Aug 10, 2021
Never played Ninja Gaiden games and want unbiased opinion? - read **** me say the only reason I bought this game was because of the big deal people made out of it when the series went on sale for Switch. I thought it must be **** the end I got the most frustrating experience of my gaming ‘life’. Firstly this game is very hard but not on a normal fair way (like maybe a Souls game). The enemies are unimaginative and everything is perfectly placed for cheap death over and over again...bosses don’t give a single second of reprieve...terrible controls, horrendous camera angles (you can’t see yourself half the time), poorly placed save states, basic 3D graphics and music with a predictable storyline about saving a ‘powerful dragon sword’...that is all wrapped up into one big ... sandwich. Bon appetite

Unlike a lot of reviewers I really liked the story, turn based combat and jobs, however, unless you really dig into making the most of the various jobs you will get stuck in grinding repetitively in order to rank **** you enjoy that great but not for everyone. The game will take anywhere between 40-70 hours which is all a bit to long tbh regardless
