On par with the Castlevania anime, which was also amazing. The musical score was fantastic as well, reminding me of the games and the live-action show.
James Wan pulled off an incredible feat with this film. It is visually stunning. The narrative serves the picture well. And all the performances all around are great, especially Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Nicole Kidman.
Way better than it ever should of been, Solo exceeds very modest expectations to become the most fun a Star Wars movie has ever been, with amazing performances from Donald Glover, Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, etc. Truly a great time and now one of my favorite Star Wars films.
Alex Garland is the man. 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Ex Machina and now ANNIHILATION. Annihilation is his best work so far. The shimmer is a place of horror and true wonder. And so is this film.
A movie I was expecting to just be a slapstick cameo fest is actually a really funny but also surprisingly dramatic and heartfelt. It is an amazing film. Will Forte is great here, as is all the other actors playing their respective roles. By the end, you truly feel like you know the man that is Doug Kenney.
Vegas Vacation for some reason is considered a bad movie. For a PG rated comedy, this has a lot of laughs and the performances are top notch. This is Chevy's last great movie performance and Randy Quaid is hilarious. Underrated flick.
The best movie of the year, Denis Villeneuve is a master of film-making. Ryan Gosling, Ana De Armas, Harrison Ford- all amazing. Roger Deakins deserves an Oscar!
I liked Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass and X-Men First Class, but Kingsman didn't grab me like those films. Honestly, and this will sound harsh, but to me Kingsman is like if Michael Bay tried to be meta and at the same time try to make a spy movie. Harsh but to me, truthful.
Blade Runner is a film of emotion. It hits you in your core and you can never forget it. What makes us human? Many films try to ask and answer this question. Blade Runner is the only film to actually do it. Harrison Ford, Sean Young and Rutger Hauer give career best performances. Vangelis did the soundtrack and it is one of the best ever.
Gal Gadot owns the role as Wonder Woman, Chris Pine is great as Steve Trevor, the direction by Patty Jenkins is first rate and the script is very solid.
Kong: Skull Island is honestly just meh. Characters are meh, story is meh and the writing is very meh. Kong looks great though and the action is fun to watch, but a Kong movie should be more than just a popcorn blockbuster.
Seth Rogen, I know Trey Parker and Matt Stone. I love their work. You sir, are not them. Sausage Party is one of the worst films I've seen in recent years. I actually like most of Seth Rogen's films, but this is just plain bad. Besides two funny scenes, it was not funny. Keep away.
A solid script, amazing acting by James McAvoy and Anya Taylor Joy, and the sure direction of M. Night Shyamalan make Split a resounding success. Split really surprises.
Dan Fogler made this movie for me and the rest of the cast was great. Funny, dark, charming and exciting, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a great surprise. Wasn't expecting it to live up to the legacy, but it does.
Another Win for Denis Villeneuve. If you are complaining that this movie is too slow, then you have to get a life. Not every movie needs action to keep you entertained. This movie is smart and moving. Amy Adams kills it.
One of my favorite comedies of all-time. So re-watchable and Ron Livingston, Stephen Root as Milton, and Gary Cole nail it. Mike Judge made a perfect modern comedy.
Life of Pi is a beautiful piece of filmmaking and it proves without a shadow of a doubt that Ang Lee is one of the best directors of our time. Just a perfect visual story with compelling characters and great acting. It's what James Cameron's Avatar should have been.
The Best Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back. Not a copy of Episode 4 but it does pay homage to it. If this is just remake of A New Hope, then Terminator 2 is just a remake of The Terminator. And it seems really odd to me that over half of the negatives scores have a review on this site. And that every reviewer's profile I go on that gave a negative review of this movie just created an account recently (it looks like Universal paid people to review this movie a dog **** score to make up for their **** movie, Jurassic World).
Del Toro's visuals and the acting of the three leads turn a blah story into a interesting movie. Definitely worth the watch, but know this: It is not a horror movie. More like a Gothic Romance/Ghost Story.
The Visit is a return to form by M. Night Shyamalan and it is a movie that is worth the watch. It is funny at times but also pretty creepy (but never over-the-top scary). Yes some parts can be a little "dopey" but the movie actually has a surprising amount of drama in it too and it works very well. Deanna Dunagan is amazing as the grandma. Go watch The Visit because it deserves your attention.
I really like David Fincher. But Gone Girl has some issues, mostly due to plot holes I won't spoil that I felt just took the movie down a few pegs. But plot holes notwithstanding, Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are great and so is the cinematography. Gone Girl definitely deserves a watch, but is not Fincher's best or close to it
For a movie that was in production for 6+ years and directed by Oren Peli (the director of Paranormal Activity), Area 51 is a letdown. Now, it's not terrible mind you, but average. It is not a horror movie; more like a fake documentary about people sneaking onto Area 51. There are some interesting visuals/ideas and the characters are very likeable for a found-footage affair, but is definitely not a must see. If you like found-footage movies, then give Area 51 a try. I don't hate myself for watching it.
Enjoyed the first pretty well, but Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey truly is bogus. It a parody of itself with very unfunny jokes, no real redeeming factors, and the perfect example of a sequel gone wrong that wasn't needed at all. Stay away at all costs.
If you could ever point to a movie that really shows that an actor is actually good, it is the Good Doctor and that actor is Orlando Bloom. Bloom gets **** on a lot by critics and audiences for not being "good." I personally have no issue with him and he is great in this role as "The Good Doctor." The movie itself is a great low-key thriller that not everybody will like, but I thought was excellent.
No this is not your traditional horror movie, because this movie actually has a great story, an amazing concept and strong performances by the actors. Maika Monroe is an absolute star in this film and is starting her career off with a bang (expect to see her in big budget blockbusters). There aren't too many "scares", but the feeling of dread and uneasiness really pay off well. As of right now, this film is in my Top 5 of the year.
An all-time favorite. I love this movie. Tom Hanks directs, writes and stars in this hilarious Comedy/Drama about a one-hit wonder band in the 1960s. Everything really seems like you are really in the 60s. Tom Everett Scott, Steve Zahn, Ethan Embry, Liv Tyler, and Johnathon Schaech are perfect as well. An all-around perfect movie and one that merits a watch.
Pulp Fiction is the movie that really opened my eyes to "good" movies. Yes, before I saw Pulp Fiction, I had seen good movies, but after watching PF I understood what a good movie was and why it was good. And PF is not just good. It is amazing. The cast is perfect, the structure of the movie feels fresh and different. Overall, the movie is a modern masterpiece.
Brendan Gleeson is truly underrated and shows how great of an actor he is in 2014's Calvary. Strong characters and an unresting story make the movie a worthwhile experience.
This movie takes all the reject aliens from Star Wars, the slapstick comedy of a cartoon, the dramatic elements of Blade Runner, and ends up being one of the stupidest films I have seen in recent memory. Not all of it is bad though (Bruce Willis does he can with the script, Gary Oldman's accent is amazing and Chris Tucker is noteworthy). But the story is simple awful, the practical special effects look nice in some areas but then look awful in others, the acting isn't great and the editing of the last hour or so of this movie is atrocious. I can see where people can like it, but with many, many better sci-fi movies out there, it's just not my thing.
