The Visit

A scary fun-house ride that expertly blends jittery tension and laugh-out-loud humor.

This is the first Shyamalan movie in a long time that viewers may be tempted to re-visit just to see how he pulls off his magic trick.

Refreshingly, this isn’t so much a found-footage movie – although it was backed by "Paranormal Activity" overseers Blumhouse Productions – as it is a completed faux documentary, complete with onscreen titles and a cripplingly hilarious end-credits sequence featuring Tyler being Tyler.

It’s the fun kind of crazy. And The Visit is undeniably, admirably intense when it needs to be.

If this was someone's first film, I'd be okay with the small signs of life that make this merely an annoying film instead of a completely dreadful one, but for this to be the latest work by a guy who made his first impression on the general public by sticking to his guns and refusing to compromise his voice… unthinkable.

Shyamalan has long been criticized for serving up borderline (or downright) silly premises with a straight face and overtly pretentious atmosphere, but he basically abandons that approach here in favor of a looser, more playful dynamic between his fresh-faced leads.

This tardy rehash of fairytale tropes finds sometime genre innovator M Night Shyamalan clinging in abject desperation to the found-footage movement’s careworn coattails.

I think it is a good blend between comedy and **** cast really did well,mainly Ed Oxenbould was amazing in this **** the movie is a blend don't look at it as either comedy or Horror.

It’s not one of those movies that will keep you awake at night, but The Visit is easy enough to watch. It has pace, knows how to place small discomforts, and for much of its runtime manages to keep you alert, waiting for the next strange gesture or awkward situation. Shyamalan returns here to a smaller, almost domestic territory, and that works relatively well for **** story opts for simplicity and a very direct approach to staging. There are no major flourishes or excessive ambition, and perhaps that’s why it works better than some of his more bloated efforts. The problem is that this same modesty also works against it: when the film seems ready to push a little further, it usually chooses to play it **** tone is peculiar, halfway between light horror and a rather uncomfortable black comedy. Some moments land, others verge on the grotesque without fully knowing what they want to provoke. That mix, which at times feels stimulating, also means that tension never becomes fully **** can sense a more relaxed Shyamalan here, even with a certain sense of humor, less obsessed with proving anything. That’s welcome, but it also leaves the feeling that this is a minor entry in his filmography. Competent, effective at times, but far from his best discoveries as a suspense storyteller.Overall, The Visit works as a piece of entertainment: it amuses, unsettles just enough, and is quickly forgotten. It’s neither a great comeback nor a major failure, simply a functional film that confirms the director still knows how to handle certain tools, even if he no longer always manages to surprise as he once did.

15+Review Trigger Warning creepy atmosphere with creepy visuals and disturbing scenes.Grandma crawls around, chasing the kids through the crawl space. She is very fast in this scene, and it contains a couple jump scares.Towards the end of the film, a boy who is severely germophobic has a used adult diaper smeared on his face. We don't see the direct act happening but we hear the noise and see the aftermath.A girl opens a door to leave the house and sees a corpse hanging from a **** elderly man is seen putting a rifle in his mouth before pulling it out when he realizes he is being **** elderly woman asks a young girl to climb inside of an oven to clean it. This happens twice, but nothing comes of it Bomboclaat Johnson starts twerking. Multiple intense scenes where the fake grandparents chase the kids. Some intense jump scares, and a scene where the fake nana runs around the house with a butcher knife. This movie has a very eerie vibe.Towards the end of the film, the "fake pop pop" takes off his diaper covered in fecal matter and rubs it on a teen's face. The teen's face is covered in said fecal matter afterward. This scene could disgust most viewers.A 13 year old boy smashes an imposter's head with the door of a fridge repeatedly.A young girl is going through a basement and briefly sees the corpses of her real grandparents in a dumpster.

Very disappointed. The twist was totally predictable. Olivia DeJonge did a nice job but the writing and plot were terrible.
