Nolan's Odyssey is a film that could have been a masterpiece if it was treated with far more care. Unlike his other films, this is based off of a well known and revered historical epic. Rather than respect the source material, Nolan has deliberately chosen to use the explicitly political "feminist" rewrite of the epic as the baseline of his film, added entirely unrelated characters to the story, used downright comical at best, and offensive at worst, casting decisions. Half the cast were awful and seemed to phone-in their roles.Nolan chose to use extremely cheap looking and non-historical costumes, modern & cringey American dialogue instead of more period appropriate vernacular, and just top to bottom this film just felt "wrong" from the expectations of adapting such a legendary epic.Cinematography was the single saving grace in my opinion, but it wasn't nearly enough.

A fun action film. It kept me engaged and I had a good time with it, and even left me intrigued for a sequel. By no means an absolute masterpiece but it's nice to just have a fun action film like the good old days. Premise is similar to Predator, with an unstoppable killer one by one picking off the squad of protagonists while they struggle to find a way to survive and/or stop it

Backrooms was an okay horror film. The build up in the first half was tense and exciting, but the 2nd half of the film was FAR weaker than the first, basically as soon we switch protagonists. [SPOILERS] As soon as I saw the drawings on the wall and the monster depicted as a pirate I stopped being afraid of it. The film very much had the benefit of your imagination before revealing the monster to be a goofy caricature of the 1st main character. The sets were neat but not nearly as varied as I would have liked. (E.g. missed out on a pool-rooms sequence) I watched this film and Obsession within a couple days of each other, as many of us did, so comparisons are inevitable. I noticed both films had 2 main characters and 2 secondary characters, and while I know the names of all 4 characters in Obsession I can't name any of the Backrooms characters, despite hearing their names multiple times in the film. I feel like that speaks to the writing between the 2.

Obsession deserves the praise it gets without a question. The plot is well written, and very much plays on who the true monster is, the acting was out of this world, and the cinematography was phenomenal. Even the soundtrack was haunting in a good way. This film is a definite must watch if you like horror.

An absolute joy of a film. The acting across the board was stellar, the film was very faithful to the source material which is a breath of fresh air in the modern day of filmmaking where every director insists they re-tell classic stories "their way." This is the first Frankenstein adaptation that has made me actually empathize with the monster properly. The visuals were stunning, and I enjoyed the ride all the way through. I definitely would not call this a "horror" film, but I still think it's a must watch.
