The Binding of Isaac10

The most addicting game I've ever played. I can't put this game down. If you see me on my laptop, 9/10 times I'm playing this game. It's so wonderfully dark, creepy, and just plain amusing. For being a flash game, some of these monsters really do scare the hell out of me. The music for this game is absolutely wonderful as well. The replay value of this game is very high, the randomly generated dungeons, items, and monsters are a blast to find. My only complaint is once I find a really nice item that gets me far in the game, after I've died I can almost never find it again. The best part about this game is that it's super cheap, and Steam has sales on it all the time. Sometimes you can get it for under a dollar. This is one of my favorite games there is.

I was so excited for this game when it was announced, I couldn't wait. And I was not disappointed with the game. At first I thought it was a little too short, but then realized I wasn't at the end yet. There are so many different ways into your target areas, multiple ways to accomplish a mission, and numerous ways to combine your powers into great combos. The scenery is beautiful, although a little washed out looking. But when they tell you you will not be seen while leaning, it's a lie. Because I did so many times. Of course it has its kinks and its bugs, but what game doesn't? Whether Bethesda decides to make a sequel to this or leave it as a stand-alone game, I will be happy either way. I can't wait for the DLC!

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII8
Sep 26, 2012
I feel like I'm biased since Vincent has always been my favorite Final Fantasy character, but this game was very fun. I've never been too into the Final Fantasy universe, and I think I love this game so much because it doesn't play like normal Final Fantasy does. There's no turn-based fighting, it's all just run in there and kill everything. The storyline was complicated and hard to follow (I've always felt Square Enix games have overly-convoluted plots) but the graphics are gorgeous and the soundtrack is great. My biggest complaint with the game is the difficulty level. Even on expert mode, it's still a very easy game and always feels a little too short for me. But, other than that, it's a very good and fun game.

This game at first felt like a blatant Zelda ripoff, then I picked it up again a couple years later to try it out again. I thought I might have judged it too quickly. Nope. This game is just not that fun. What is the point of having my weapons break every five minutes if the game doesn't give me the availability of the repair powder? You have to find the shop in the dungeons before you can buy anything, which means no help in getting healing and repair supplies. The game is also very tedious. Why did Sony think it was a good idea to have randomly generated dungeons? Overall, very monotonous, story doesn't make much sense to me, gameplay is aggravating and the controls are awkward.

I finally got a hold of this game after 6 years of wanting to try it out, and I got what I expected. It's a six year-old game, so I expected some glitches, outdated mechanics, and repetitive gameplay. That being said, it's pretty fun for short periods of time. I do enjoy the psychological horror aspect rather than strictly quick scares. The atmosphere is creepy, but I've seen better. The ability to slow down time was pretty original, so kudos for that. I managed to get this game for free, so I believe I got my "money's worth."

Rock Band Blitz8
Aug 29, 2012
Very addicting, hypnotic, but all Blitz is is a more modern version of Amplitude. That being said, that game stole many hours of my life. The mechanics are a little easier than Amplitude however, instead of hitting specific buttons, you press the thumb sticks in the direction of the "note." But the best aspect about this, in my opinion, is that it uses all of your Rockband 3 data. A great game to play when just needing to kill some time and chill out.

Silent Hill8

I played this one after the other Silent Hills and didn't expect much from it, being a Playstation game. But this game crushed those doubts and proved that it's a damn good game. Despite it's blocky ambiguous monsters and hard-to-manuever controls (Ibut maybe those helped add to the horror experience), it was still a chilling game (maybe the awful Playstation voice acting had something to do with it).. That first taste of Otherworld still freaks me out to no end and is possibly the most unsettling environment you'll find in a Playstation game. This is truly a fight-or-flight game, unlike many other horror-survival games (the sequels didn't do this aspect justice) and I truly feel like I'm fighting for my life. Even though he doesn't have too much development as a character, I can't help but feel myself being drawn into Harry as if I'm being put in his shoes and actually feel like I'm fighting for my life in a horrific town filled with nightmarish creatures. Plus, my favorite aspect of all Silent Hill games, are the multiple endings. This was the first game to offer multiple versions of endings and it was revolutionary. It's a horror-survival classic and no Silent Hill, or any horror game fan, should go without playing

Oh man do I love this game. It's funny, it's cute, it's challenging (sometimes frustratingly so), and just an overall good game. It takes a little while sometimes to get used to the "thinking with portals" thing, but once you do the game is amazing. My biggest complaint (and probably my only one) is the fact that it's a jumping puzzle game but I can't see my character's feet. So I have no idea where I'm jumping to. Granted, the first-person view added to the game, I just get super frustrated when I go to jump somewhere and... Oh, I jumped completely past it when I thought i was on it. Lovely. Valve has a tendency to do this, unfortunately. But other than that, this game was beautiful and unbelievably fun.

This game kind of makes me feel like I'm playing an old NES game but with better graphics and less fun 8-bit music. Its very simple mechanics make it quite an interesting game. You start off with no idea of what's happening, no back story, no one popping up telling you "USE TEH ARROW KEYZ TO MOVE." It just throws you in the game, basically telling you, "you figure it out. You're smart, right?" Each time you fail a puzzle at first, you learn from your mistake how to go at it in a different approach. It's a fun little game that's a good game for reminiscing about simpler game times.

The atmosphere is definitely creepy, but this just wasn't my cup of tea. I like to fight monsters, not take a picture of them to "fight" them. Granted the ghosts were pretty terrifying-looking, I was never scared. I just didn't find the game fun at all.

I find this game hilarious, twisted, and pretty damn fun. But it is extremely repetitive, and therefore gets boring kinda quick. I do love the narrator though, he amuses me to no end. The death scenes are great the first few times you see them, but they do get old fast. It's a decent game to play if you just need to kill some time.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness7
Mar 31, 2012
This was very different than other Castlevania games preceding it. I didn't have a problem not playing as a Belmont, because many of the other games had done that. However, the Devil forging was very unusual. I enjoyed it, but didn't really feel as though this were a Castlevania game. But it was fun to make your own weapons and beat Isaac with a frying pan. This game definitely had its silly and serious moments, but one of the most frustrating to me was fighting Legion. I thought fighting Legion would be like The Forgotten One in LoI, you choose to fight it and you get a pretty nice payoff for it. But you get nothing when you beat Legion, just a pat on the back and your back on your way. Other than that, the gameplay was very fun, the storyline was interesting, and the fact that you could play as Trevor once you'd beaten the game is what held its replay value for me.

A nice remake of Rondo of Blood, it looks so much prettier. It kept the same difficult-as-hell gameplay while also sticking to the storyline. The best part? You can unlock the original Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night. I was super stoked when I found out this little gem. Now that's what I mostly use this game for anymore, but all-in-all still great.

Good god is this game addicting. I've loved rhythm games since I started playing Rhythm Heaven, but this one was even better for me because it was also an adventure! I still hear "pata pata pata pon" and "pon pon pata pon" in my head as I'm falling asleep sometimes. In addition to the storyline mode, the mini-games were just as fun (some of them even more fun). Great game to waste your life away and to have a great deal of addicting fun while it **** away your life.

Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams8
Mar 27, 2012
This was the first Silent Hill game I had access to, so I snatched up the opportunity. I'm so glad I did. I instantly fell in love with this game and the franchise after this. The storyline is great and has quite a twist at the end, the monsters were disturbing and unsettling (especially Pyramid Head for some reason), and I just had a blast playing this game. The part that probably scared me the most? Running down the hall with Maria out of the hospital, and Pyramid Head emerges from around the corner. I threw my controller at the screen. I ended up killing Maria accidentally after that... oops. Great game, the atmosphere was even creepier than the first one. Still keeps me up at night sometimes... I feel like Pyramid Head lurks in my closet.

DOOM II10
Mar 27, 2012
Best classic ever. This is one of the few games that still stumps me no matter how many times I play it. And the only game to make me scream bloody murder while mowing down a room full of imps (or having a room full of imps appear behind me). This game has hardcore nostalgic value for me, I grew up with this, Wolfenstein, and many games alike; but Doom was always my favorite. The mazes are so complicated and twisted, you never know when you're going to be teleported back to the beginning or in the middle of a room filled to the brim with Imps, Cacodemons, Lost Souls, Chaingunners, or worse... Hell Knights. This game never ceases to get old for me.

DOOM 38
Mar 27, 2012
Oh man was I excited when I finally got my hands on this game. I've been a die-hard Doom fan since I was 4, watching my dad play and cheering him on. The originals still make me scream like a little kid and nearly throw my laptop away when a monster suddenly appears in front of you. Doom 3, however, didn't feel much like a Doom game. I feel like they focused too much on a scary atmosphere (which they did very well, mind you) rather than trying to stay true to the originals. But, it is still a great game. Probably the most frustrating aspect is that you can't have your flashlight and gun out at the same time. FIND SOME DAMN DUCT TAPE. Thank god they fixed that problem in Resurrection of Evil. I also really wished I had access to the super shotgun to wreck everything in my path like I did in Doom 2. But, the monsters were a nice revamp of the original designs of the monsters. I especially enjoyed the Hell Knights. I LOVED the carnage the chaingun brought about. The chainsaw? Everything fell before me. No living being stood a chance. Best part? Going to Hell. The Cherubs were the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced... This game is great, I definitely recommend this game.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence10
Mar 27, 2012
Probably my favorite game of all time. Maybe it's just the nostalgic value, but I am still madly in love with this game. I've memorized all the cutscenes and can recite them by heart (and have been for years). The character development is wonderful, the storyline is great (I loved the fact it showed how the Belmont clan began), the soundtrack is SPECTACULAR, and the gameplay was incredibly addicting. I love playing as both Leon and Joachim, but the Pumpkin was incredibly silly and fun. It was the first attempt at a 3D Castlvania game since Castlevania 64 (another great one) and Konami did not fail to deliver a great game. The Forgotten One is the most grotesque and most difficult boss in the game, but the black orb received after beating it is quite worth it in my opinion. It's an amazing game that I reccommend to everyone.

Silent Hill: Origins7
Mar 27, 2012
This is definitely where the Silent Hill series should have ended; I definitely started to see where the game went downhill from here. This probably would have been excellent to play on the PSP, but the PS2 port of it was very weak. Konami completely ignored the fact that we now had a second analog stick and two extra shoulder buttons to work with, plus the graphics were pretty grainy. I basically could have plugged a PSP into the TV and had the same (if not slightly better) experience. It was, however, a good game. I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of this game. The storyline was good, it helped give some insight to just wtf was going on in the first Silent Hill. Some of the monsters, however, were almost identical to some of them in SH2. For instance, the straight jacket is just the Lying Figure but can shoot a ball of acid rather than spraying it. And the Faceless nurse is the bubble heads from SH2. The boss fights are decent and simple. Many have felt strongly against the fact that you have a choice of whether to go to Otherworld, saying it took away the sense of dread. I still felt a sense of dread of knowing I had to go to Otherworld in order to beat the level, Otherworld scared the hell out of me. It was nearly pitch-black, with loud unsettling music, and monsters that would appear out of nowhere. The fact that your weapons broke constantly also gave a sense of "OH **** I NEED ANOTHER WEAPON NOW." But the fact that you could carry 500 melee and about 7 different types of guns kind of drew away from that. All in all, it is a good game but is better played on the PSP.

Dead Space 29
Mar 25, 2012
The day this game came out I was soooo excited. I fell madly in love with the first one and could not wait to get into this game. The first ten minutes of this game... oh my god. It's still the best opening scene of any video game I've ever played or seen. All hell has literally broken loose. You have to run through a necromorph-infested hospital with your health in the red and wearing a straight jacket. The atmosphere in the game isn't quite as terrifying as it was in the first one, but they included both new and old necromorphs and focused more on hordes and hordes of necromorphs coming to screw up your world. This Dead Space seems to have more action rather than focusing completely on trying to make you piss your pants. You still have the old weapon choices along with a couple new ones such as the Javelin gun. Meanwhile, Nicole's terrifying ghost is following you everywhere as Isaac continues to slip further into insanity. Still one of the best games I've ever played, and I am constantly creeping the internet for news on the third one.

Silent Hill: Downpour2
Mar 25, 2012
I've loved Silent Hill since the first one, and I started to see a decline in Origins but I still had faith in the series. I should have stopped, I found, when I bought Downpour. Pros: Voice acting seems to be better than the other Silent Hill games, I can actually tell Murphy is scared ****. You can watch Murphy get more and more battered as he takes more damage. The UV light lights up hidden clues.
You can (usually) block monster's attacks.
While fighting a group of monsters, you don't lock onto a single one. You can switch between the group if one is about to hit you. Cons: The game is SO glitchy. Constant twitchy movements, and what's worse is the combat begins to glitch out worse as the game goes on. I'll go to attack a monster and my weapon goes right through the monster.
The gameplay itself is just not fun in the least. I was constantly bored, and when I wasn't I was infuriated from the sheer frustration of not know what I'm supposed to do. Granted the other Silent Hills were similar in the fact that you had to really think to figure out a puzzle, but this gives you little-to-no clues whatsoever. The "mysteries" you pick up seem to have no relevance whatsoever to the game 90% of the time.
I personally did not like all the side-quests you could do, I like Silent Hill to be a generally linear. You can only carry one weapon at a time. I guess it's supposed to add to the suspense? One gun, and one melee (or two guns if you care to try scouring the world for ammo)
It's extremely gimicky, from balancing My BIGGEST problem with the game... You spend almost NO time in Otherworld. Out of the five hours of the game I played, I didn't even spend one hour in Otherworld.
I was highly disappointed in the game, and regret ever spending the money for it. I caution anyone thinking of buying it.
