It's not a bad game. However, I believe the hype is overestimated here. I would expect more radical improvements from the first game considering the amount of time it has been in development and the amount of money has been raised from the first game. I think the high scores are a result of a very common trend in the industry: the lack of courage from main stream media to provide an original point of view without being afraid of major negative community feedback (which also behaves as cattle).
