Easily the best multiplayer game I have experienced on the PS4. It stresses teamwork, and the degree to which you can adjust your loadout to compliment your team entering a mission is fantastic (the number of stratagems and weapons and perks, along with the implications of various upgrades is very impressive). In one game, I can stress offensive firepower, lumbering around in gatling & missile toting **** another I can play a support role, keeping the heavy hitters alive by healing them , dropping mines and turrets to block enemy movement and jumping via jet pack where I' needed. OR I can distract enemy patrols with deploy and forget noise makers, recon the area with UAVs or make my game a priority for other players looking to join a match. It's brilliant. Play "smart" and as a unit and you can tackle the hardest objectives..providing covering fire from a IFV turret while team mates dismount and complete the objective. Replayability is immense. GET ****, you can play solo but it's not the same (fun, but not on the same level)

Oh for crying out **** bulk of these published reviews just flat out stink and miss the point. Glad I picked this up. Fantastic horror-themed WWII sniper / 3rd person shooter game.

If you want evidence that the published "expert" reviewers aren't in touch with what folks want to play a lot of the time -- just read the reviews coming in so far. Everyone I've seen on Twitch, everyone I've played with, everyone talking about the game, feels it's a blast. Graphics are solid, the x-ray kill cam is a blast to watch....especially when nailing an undead sniper who's been hopping roof to roof. Watching a well placed explosive eviscerate half a dozen undead, some pinwheeling around headless, gouting **** crawling towards you....just as gory, just as much B-grade fun. Co op is a blast. Single play is fun. Do yourself a favor and pick it up.

After I had actually sat down and played this for a few hours, my next step was to uninstall COD: Advanced Warfare. The imagination, humor, and blistering gameplay this thing **** top of the customization, which is addictive as hell, shows how lazy the standard FPS developers have become. And you can pay as little or as much as you want (the only thing REQUIRING actual $ are the cosmetic **** you can still win the odd bit of that kit). Multiple game modes with their own twist. Bots that can fill in for the missing / AFK player that actually compete and the simple fun factor make this a must. AND its free.

A solid game. I’ll keep it largely because I’m a horror fanatic and there are precious few games available in this genre. I’ll offer my take on the pros and cons (hopefully they’ll help). Bad news first (let’s get it out the way) CAMERA It’s roughly similar to The Last of Us in how you move the protagonist and look at his surroundings. I say roughly because the camera…and it appears this was a conscious design decision…is clumsy to the point that those moments that do require fast paced gameplay are incredibly frustrating. Faced with a leggy boss who’s touch means instant **** you’re ffed if you think you can sprint around AND engage him with any level of success. You’ll miss a door and run into the wall, get caught on terrain, you name it. So the trick is to NOT put yourself in those situations. If you can think of using all of your weapons ‘capabilities (explosive crossbow bolts can act as proximity mines when shot into the ground or walls)…or use the tripwires, bear traps and spike filled pits plaguing the maps to your advantage….then you can keep things at a manageable pace. Which you need to do. STORY When I was in college, my girlfriend and future wife – still is so something worked – took me to the Rocky Horror Picture Show on a night where I didn’t tell her I had a fever of 101 because I didn’t want to lose that date. That sense of confusion, WTF and “did that really just happen” ….aided by bronchitis and all the meds that come with **** exactly the same way I feel playing through this **** I’m about 4/5s done as I got my copy early. This plot is so flipping disjointed and ….whatever. You really have to experience each chapter as a sort of “one off” story similar to those horror movies made up of 4-5 short stories (like VHS or Creepshow). That’s it. Pros TONE AND GRAPHICAL PRESENTATION IT IS **** in a scary way but in a consistently “oh that’s just wrong” grindhouse/splatter film **** the grainy, fog layered, dark graphics help maintain that perception. People can **** about the graphics all they want. They’re not BAD. And they’re appropriate. The monsters are sick, death animations (yours and the baddies) are incredibly gory and the whole thing is undeniably, deliciously grim …which is good during the holiday season. SOUND Nicely done. Decent headphones or speakers are a necessity. STEALTH Is a viable tactic. I love stealth and considered gameplay. Most of the time, that's what this is. DIFFICULTY It’s like Dark Souls….except it’s a horror game. If you’re afraid of having to rework certain levels, then don’t apply. But there’s a sense of accomplishment when you’re done. In summation = good game. Not incredible. But worth your time if you’re a horror fan. PS ....if you got this far.... ALIEN ISOLATION WAS WAY BETTER…

Alien: Isolation9

Critics or gamers who try to down play what these developers have done are clueless. This is one of the bravest and boldest games to come out that I can ever remember. Not perfect. But incredibly entertaining and unquestionably faithful to the source material. Unscripted events abound in this game. Whether it's the alien hunting you, or you battling it out with other survivors or the alien turning those same survivors into kibble thanks to a confrontation you ****'s simply amazing. And scary. Holy hell is it scary. People who claim its too frustrating or that they died too many times....this isn't the genre for you. And you're not playing properly. Sorry. You're not. I've died. But never to the point that it's frustrating. Careful, considered gameplay pays off. People who whinge that you can't fight back.....sorry, you're wrong too. Unless shooting, braining, or burning androids and human adversaries doesn't count. It's simply that you need to consider whether the risk is worth that approach. And understanding that Amanda Ripley is not "Master Chief." The AI does not cheat. The AI simply doesn't follow set routines. If you make noise, odds are it will investigate. If there's no reason to think you couldn't have left a corner of the map, that SOB will look for you with will and a purpose. You just need to figure a way out. The length is fine. Could it have been trimmed a little? Sure. But it's never tedious. And frankly, I enjoyed every minute...every image..every sound. It's like you're in the flipping Alien universe. All that's missing are the smells. Replayability? Yep. Survivor mode is awesome for a quick fix. They'll be adding to it as part of the season pass (yes, season passes are separate discussion but I think this one will be worth it). And even with the campaign, understand that outside of a few set events the alien will never be in the same place, never act exactly the same way every time you play. Items are in different locations. There are not guarantees. Hell, I'll play again to see just how far I can get without dying. If you're a fan of the franchise or horror games, period, you need to pick this up.

Metro Redux9
Sep 5, 2014
Outstanding game(s). Metro 2033 may be a few years old, but you couldn't tell with the remastered version, which features a graphics upgrade and some nice gameplay improvements. The visuals are **** lighting in particular. And the need to manage your resources (ammo, gas mask filters, the gas mask themselves as they suffer damage, med kits) as well as recharge pieces of kit just adds to the level of immersion....fantastic. If the accents bother you, which is a silly complaint, switch the spoken language to Russian and keep the subtitles in English. But you'll miss out on the side conversations that flesh out the game world. You're rewarded for taking the time to listen in, whether it's ovehearing a guard sympathize with people looking for news regarding their loved **** a **** justifying the murders he's committed in the past....There's a full blown society represented here, and they've done a spectacular job of paying homage to the source material. Take the time to explore. You won't run entirely out of ammo (or filters) if you take the time to explore, picking the pockets of dead soldiers or uncovering the keys needed to unlock hidden safes full of cash and supplies. At one point I had almost 500 units of currency and when I reached the next safe zone (station) I went on a mad shopping spree. The guns are well-designed and inventive. They have a wonderful "junky" appearance that supports the theory that they've been constructed by people forced to scavenge through the rubble of a dead city. But they're lethal, and have an appreciable kick (although I turned the vibration to "high" before I was happy with the recoil). Slap an IR scope and silencer to the Bastard SMG and you may never feel the need to upgrade to anything else. The stealth mechanics are well done, and the AI is better than most recent FPS titles. The only thing that frustrated me was the lack of documentation regarding the controls. For Xbox players, to access your throwing knives and grenaders, etc, hold down the Y button to access that navigation screen and hit the right bumper to actually USE what you've selected. Hit the Left bumper to wipe the gore and condensation from your mask. I had to poke around before I uncovered those bits. Regardless, here's the thing -- the people behind Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light introduced something DIFFERENT when these games first came out (imagine that, not another CoD or BF clone). They offered something fresh -- and desperately needed in a genre that's frankly been done to death. This redux edition is a reminder (a polished reminder) of how well they succeeded. Snap this up. Ignore the haters...they're failing to appreciate something special. Whatever these guys produce next, I'm buying.

Outlast10
Jun 27, 2014
I don't come to Metacritic to write about the games I don't like. I login when I feel folks need to experience a great title -- and Outlast is flipping fantastic. It's not just jump scares. Listening to Chris Walker's footsteps as he pounds his way past your hiding **** watching Trager peer under a bed frame as he hunts you amid his dozens of vivasection **** glancing over your shoulder as a mob of blade wielding crazies sprint after your down a pitch black hall, illuminated only by the IR lense of your mini-cam....HOLY CRAP. The sounds, the graphics, the overall atmosphere of this game and its DLC expansion (Whistleblower) are incredible. And for $30 you get about 8-9 hours of combined playing time....which is a lot of bang for your buck, when you consider there is NO down time here. If you're not running/hiding for your life you're waiting to haul a** from that next bloodthirsty loon. The game honestly deserves a 9 if you're looking just at pacing and gameplay. There are a couple of instances where the fun bordered on frustration (due to an escape route that might have been TOO well hidden). I'm giving it a 10 because Red Barrels was incredibly brave/focused on producing the game they wanted to provide. Do NOT let your kids try this thing. I've never seen a game more deserving of its rating. But in the same breath, this is the first time in years I've seen horror done right in a video game. I'll be playing through it again on a higher difficulty ...and to record some more polished clips to share with friends....once I get my heart rate back under control.

Titanfall: Expedition7

The three maps included in the pack are nice additions. Wargames is my favorite. I will say though, that while I appreciate that the developers have provided additional game modes, private match making and (hopefully) some titan customization options since the initial product's release....charging $10 for just three maps does seem a bit over priced. Again, my usual rant...ignore the irrelevant trolls who come in here with their "0s" and their fake indignation. They're either attempting to nuke the rating **** they can't **** I don't know what. But check out their histories before you give any weight to what they say. Do you really think they're trying to add anything to the conversation? Or look at what they do rate highly. I just about laughed my coca-cola out my nose.

Watch Dogs8
May 27, 2014
The people scoring this game a "0" **** my opinion....proof of just how socially **** and petty a lot of folks in the gaming "community" have become. Watch Dogs is a very well made game that's a lot of fun to play. It's quite polished. It doesn't break the mold. It takes a developed concept (open, sandbox world you can explore however long you want) and adds a few new ideas. Maybe Ubisoft didn't introduce all the innovation gamers were looking for. But take the thing on its own merits and it is definitely worth the purchase. I don't CARE about GTA V. I don't care if basement dwellers feel they were misled regarding the graphics. The graphics are solid. And I can't understand giving a game a "0" out of some sense of socially inept, acne driven rage. Or how people can actually root for companies providing them with games to FAIL. Lame. All you've done is convinced me to stop looking at game site forums or metacritic user reviews. You have nothing constructive to say. You got nothing HONEST to say. And you're coming across as hateful to people who have done NOTHING to you. You don't want a product, then don't buy it. For the rest of ya, it's worthy of addition to your game library.

Wolfenstein: The New Order9
May 23, 2014
Do yourself a favor and pick up this game. I hesitated after reading the Joystiq review, then took the plunge after seeing other published reactions. Boy, I’m glad I did. Discount the articles that gave this game a”60” and you’ll see the score garnered by the other 14 sites comes out to a 83+ ….which is a fair assessment of a fun, well-crafted game that focuses solely on providing a worthwhile single player experience. I can’t see how those people were even playing the same game I am. Wolfenstein: The New Order features challenging gameplay (if you have it set on “I am Death Incarnate” or better), good graphics, fantastic combat and a character-driven story that, frankly, is the best I’ve seen since The Last of Us. BJ makes for a great tragic hero. It’s obvious they put some actual thought into how some of the **** uberkit works and the reasons behind it. The sequence where the armored car smashes through the gate at the asylum and then launches the drones from its rear hull is a fantastic little touch. The fact that the developers give a legitimate reason to play through the game twice was a major selling point for me. I do wish they had tried to come up with a multiplayer component. The Last of Us, to me, was proof that you can have the best of both worlds. But I understand the thought that FPS multiplayer has been done to death, and there would have been a considerable challenge in finding a way to introduce anything that hasn’t been seen a million times before. So in short, grab the game. Ignore the self-important jacka—es you see on Twitch who might try to knock it (one guy I watched was occupying half the screen with a feed of himself sitting on a chair…how self-important can you get?). Disregard the sites that don’t give this title its due. And enjoy yourself. This is not a rental to tide yourself over until the Xbox expands its library. This is a definite purchase for which you’ll thank yourself.
