The Lord of the Rings Online: Helm's Deep0
Jan 16, 2014
Pathetic. No one asked for class revamps, and no one asked for trait trees. Hybrid classes and builds were killed. If you want to experiment with build styles, Turbine decided to PUNISH you by making any traits outside the "primary" tree to cost TWICE as many points. And then despite all the Helm's Deep beta chatter telling the devs about how broken combat mechanics are alongside the stupid class revamps-no-one-asked-for, actual combat in this game dropped straight off a cliff (characters are extremely unbalanced and OP against all content). Laughably, for all the "big deal" the class revamping was, the next Random System is the Big Battles (AKA Bug Battles if you like bugs), where you don't even play with your class skills. Turbine is talented in creating half-assed systems and letting them rot: Skirmishes (I actually like these, but Turbine seems to have stopped really developing them, and the BB don't count), housing (no revamp in sight, no major updates ever), PvMP (I don't even do it, but I feel bad for people who enjoy that system and it hasn't been improved since launch), mounted combat (complete bullsh--, GIMMICK, release was utter balls when you couldn't steer your horse and it took Turbine half a year to finally FIX that), and how about Legendary Items? OMFG, can you imagine how players would rejoice if all the money wasted on uncalled-for class revamps was spent on a Legendary Item system revamp?! Turbine started the "first part" LI revamp years ago and then canceled the second part because the LI system became so monetized in the store. LotRO has officially become an "interactive walking tour" ONLY for hardcore Tolkien fans. If you ever want to play an MMO for mechanics, even if you don't min-max, this is not your game. I enjoy Tolkien, but I play games to *play a game.* For a great trait tree implementation, see Rift. For great player housing, also see Rift (and another game or two I don't remember now, sorry). For Tolkien, read the books and watch the films, and play other computer games or tabletop. You can play LotRO too if you really want that "walking tour" Tolkien fix, but DO NOT spend any money on it. Just go with F2P.
