LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight9
May 31, 2026
Not a perfect game, but it was definitely a fun experience, which is what LEGO is all about. Gameplay was engaging with tons of cool references. I'm glad this game and its developers are getting the positive recognition they rightfully deserve, because you can tell a lot of care was put into this game. It was nice to return to Gotham City once more!

I genuinely have much more fun with this game than I ever did with Mariokart World. There wouldn't be enough time to explain it, but generally what SRC provides is a ton more engaging, literally testing your skills on a diverse set of tracks. However, the game isn't without its flaws. I hate getting stuck in the bottom of the pack, only to get an item that is nothing more than a wisp. It doesn't help catch up to the others. Still, personal gripes aside, I imagine I'll put a TON of hours into this game; here's hoping more SEGA icons like Aiai or Billy return!

At launch: Score: 3.5/10 The game looks decent, but it is littered with many flaws. While I could talk about the awful marketing, unmerited price tag, questionable retro track selection, terribly cluttered character select screen, or unappealing art-style, I'll just limit this to the category that let me down the most for this game: the outfits. Adding outfits to the game is in **** idea! However, the way the developers implemented this concept is an entirely different story. There are several mistakes the game team made; one obvious one is the distribution of the outfits among the characters. The team should have realized their large fan base would use plenty upon plenty of different characters. Why they did not give each character an equal amount of outfits is baffling, especially how some characters did not deserve better treatment than others. Honestly, I feel the worst for DK and Pauline fans; they were done the most dirty. All the team accomplished is showing how biased they are towards a select few. Why bother having a large roster if only some get the royal treatment? Now, as a Bowser main, I am very disappointed with how he was treated less than royal by the game team. He's supposed to be the most iconic villain of all gaming, isn't he? So why does he have fewer outfit options than Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi, Daisy, even Koopa Troopa?!? And of the very few outfit options the developers did give Bowser, I do not approve of any of the team's design choices. Why did they need to give him shoes for all of his outfits but pants for only two of them? Shoes and no pants? It's cute with Yoshi, but it does not work for Bowser. The developers should have ditched the boots for Bowser's All-Terrain and/or his Supercharged outfits. It **** that I can't just change it myself. Speaking of which, no customization for the outfits is the game team's biggest mistake in the outfit category. Why are the outfits locked as full sets? Why are there games out there like Monster Hunter Wilds, Tekken 8, even Mario Strikers Battle League, which all have customizable outfits ranging from adequate to awe-inspiring? And yet Mariokart- arguably the most popular gaming franchise- has developers that cannot integrate this? What frustrates me the most is the team ditched the idea of an in-game store. That could've opened opportunities for outfit parts. Better yet, outfit parts could have been collectibles in the open world. Instead, the developers focused on "dash" food items (nothing more than a copycat of the mushroom items) and limited customization to stickers on the vehicles. In other words, the team traded "engaging fun" for "useless gimmicks." Nintendo, remind me again why this game is “worth” $80 USD… I really wanted to enjoy this game, and I really wanted to enjoy the outfits. But the fact is, this Mariokart game team ruined my main, reduced his outfits to some lackluster options, and robbed me of any way to customize the outfits to what I prefer. This alone killed my hype for this game (not to mention the plenty of other flaws not included in this review). Of course, if the developers somehow managed to add outfits (that are designed well) in future updates- or better yet, give me the option to customize my outfits- my rating for this game would definitely be higher. Unfortunately, Nintendo has soured in their communication skills as of late, so for now, I'm afraid my final thoughts of this game are this: This Mariokart team’s 8 years of work have only shown their incompetence with design decisions and their wastefulness of what could have- and should have- been a great mix to the franchise formula. That said, I challenge the team to prove me wrong. Make outfit customization an option, or at the very least, implement it in the next mainline Mariokart game. Post 06/25 update:
Score: 0/10 Sadly, Nintendo and the developers have made their position very clear that they do not care about their audience or the people they use to voice the characters. Their stupidity- let's face it; they have handled this game very immaturely- has made me lose respect for Sato, Ishikawa, Jikumaru, and their entire team. News flash, Nintendo: Stupid and Stubborn are not a great combination to keep the reputation of a franchise alive and thriving. If something doesn't bode well with your audience, you don't place them on chokehold and shove "your" way down their throats. At least, that's not what an honorable company would do. You really are becoming Disney-in all the worst ways.
