Resident Evil Village is one of gaming's best modern sequels. I know that feels like a bold statement to start this out, but I really do mean it. For me, this is a step up from "Biohazard" in almost every single way. Better enemy variety (& it's not even close), better gunplay & weapons, better overall gameplay variety, & exploration, better narrative & performances, & better environmental design too. (At least for me.) & OH YEAH... an actual final boss! RE7 "Wall-Eveline" does not count. I've beat this game 6 times, & every single time I play it I remember how many things this game gets right! Each section is different than the last, & it makes everything feel really fresh & fun. The castle is the most well-rounded with excellent puzzles, stealth sequences, chases, & a beautiful rooftop where you get to snipe the ever living s*** out of some annoying bats. House Beneviento is the most "silent hill" this franchise has ever got. I have always kind of seen the basement of the house as a "physical manifestation" of Ethan's worries as a father. The swamp section... okay hear me out. It's the best, worst section in an RE game haha. It goes by quickly, it's pretty fun, & the boss fight is actually really solid. The Factory is unreal. This one area has more enemy variety than the entirety of RE7, it's labyrinthian, it's gothic steam-punk, both boss fights are exhilarating. (& also very dumb.) The game is also book-ended by some really great segments! I love the intro, & I LOVE the ending. Honestly everything about this game just works for me. I just replayed it a week ago, & I could already hop in for another playthrough.
Is this a perfect remake? No, not even close. Is it a faithful remake? No, not really. Is it a couple hours shorter than it should be? Yes. HOWEVER. Lemme just say this. People's biggest criticisms of RE3 remake are that: it's too short, & it cut content from the original game, but do you want to know a game that is also short, & cut content? RE2 remake dawg! Anyways... there is so much drama around this game, & a lot of it is super fair, but for me that doesn't change the fact that this game is SO MUCH FUN. It's lightning-fast pace is actually the thing like about the game the most. If you don't like a section of the game, chances are it'll be over pretty quick & you'll be right onto the next thing. For me, the boss fights against Nemesis are a total blast, & infinitely better than the Burkin fights in RE2. Story is kinda half-baked but, Jill & Carlos are done great with solid voice performances, & Nicolai is way too quiet holy. This is a mess of a review for a mess ****. But hey, I still have beat this 6 times so it must be doing something right.
Phenomenal remake. RE2 is a super well-made game, that improves & reimagines a lot of things from the original. I've always felt that it has a knockout opening & ending, but I've never been too head over heels for the middle sections of the game. (Underground RPD & The Sewers)
Metroid Dread is one of the snappiest 2D Platformers I've ever played. Metroid-Vania at its most accessible, but perhaps most polished as well. Love the bosses, environments, and the music is better than people give it credit.
Is this a relatively safe sequel? Yeah, I'd say so. Are the story & characters mind-blowing? No, not necessarily. But... this is one of my favorite games I've ever played. Jaw-droppingly gorgeous at every single turn, and a gameplay loop that is simply to die for. Gameplay-wise I'd say this is some of the most fun I've ever had with a video game. Side quests are interesting and feel like you are actually well rewarded for completing them. Combat is fun, fast, & flashy, the stealth feels excellent too, and the variety of weapons and throwable items/guns is dizzying. Not a perfect game. Where's the 45+ enemy camps that Tsushima had? Why is Act 3 like 15 minutes long? Why is the weather occasionally making this gorgeous game go from a 10 to an 8, and why is the climbing giving "Uncharted 1" energy. Even with some of it's flaws and shortcomings. I ADORE this video game. I loved Atsu's journey from start to finish!
If the gameplay was a bit tighter... this would be one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. The atmosphere, narrative, characters, environmental design, & the general eeriness of the whole game are all some of the very best that survival horror has to offer.
The best arcade racer of all time. Period. A greatest hits compilation of over 20 years of Mario Kart. Almost 100 tracks, a great character roster, the best gameplay in the series to date, and just an all around banger. **** OF THE BEST VIDEOGAME SOUNDTRACKS OF ALL TIME.
A fantastic entry into my favorite JRPG series of all time. Fire Emblem Awakening saved the series & for that and many other reasons, it will always have a place in my heart. Is the story mind-blowing? No. Is the gameplay the best in the series? Is it my favorite entry? No. But... Awakening blends all the things that make Fire Emblem special together. There are great characters, incredible music, fun gameplay, good new additions, and a lot of genuinely cool fanservice. I love this game!
This game has some of the most baffling design decisions I've ever seen. The bosses are a complete mixed bag: with some of the worst any souls-like has to offer & at the best a few decent fights. The areas range from being atmospheric, well thought out & connected, to being an absolute headache/nightmare to play. All this to say... I love it.
It's not the perfectly paced adventure across the U.S that Part 1 is, but it is a truly phenomenal game. Excellent performances from every single character, top-notch visuals, & probably the best controlling 3rd person shooter I've ever played. This is a story that is so much more than just forgiveness or revenge. So many moments that will stick with me for years after completing the game. Is it as good as Part 1? No. But I might like it a bit more.
I'm going to make essentially an entire community pissed off with this statement but, Bloodborne is not a perfect game. Bloodvials are an inferior healing system when compared to the flask system from the souls games/Elden Ring. There are multiple annoying/unfun boss fights that make the roster worse than other from soft games. (Ex. Witches of Hemrick, Rom the Spider, The One Reborn, Micolash, The living failures, & a few others...) But when you can look past the aspects of the game that I personally think aren't too great, this is a genuinely PHENOMENAL video game. The best combat in any soulslike, unmatched atmosphere & level design, lore, & worldbuilding, & some of the coolest drip in any video game. Bloodborne also contains some truly spectacular boss fights although I do think they are a bit more hit & miss than the entire internet will tell you. Father G a baller, Lady Maria is a top 5 soulsborns boss, Gerhman fight gives me chills every time & I love Cleric Beat & Amelia a whole lot too. (Orphan of Kos is also a goat.)
This is my favorite video game of all time. I will never forget my first playthrough of this truly MASSIVE sequel. As a 2nd game in a trilogy, I think this not only surpasses the original in every single way, but might be SO good that I'm not sure if part 3 will be able to top it. Rebirth has more gameplay variety in its first few chapters than most games will ever have. It's beautiful, incredibly fun to play, a mind-blowing soundtrack, & the best characters in gaming. THE GOAT.
Uncharted 3 doesn't quite reach the heights of among thieves, and thief's end, but it is still a fantastic game. Great set pieces, fun melee combat, & the best story out of the original trilogy.
Uncharted 4 is a KNOCKOUT ending to a truly phenomenal video game series. I don't think I've ever experienced a more perfect conclusion to a franchise than this. The performances are some of the best in gaming, with Nolan North & Emily Rose acting their asses off at every single opportunity. Gameplay is consistently fun & exciting & I love the way it feels like you could play every combat arena in an endless amount of ways.
Quite possibly the BEST video game remake of all time. The original RE4 is the game I've replayed the most not only in the RE series, but just in general. So, it makes sense that this undeniably faithful, completely baller remake will become the game I replay the most moving forward. Better in every single way. Perfection.
Skyward Sword is Magical. This game makes me incredibly happy. One of the greatest soundtracks in video game history, a gorgeous art style, and the best narrative the series has to offer.
My 2nd favorite video game of all time. Twilight Princess is easily my favorite game in the whole Zelda series. The dungeons are at their most interesting & creative, the combat remains the best out of any of the games, the music and art direction are absolutely beautiful, and the ending sequence is the best finale of any game I've ever played. Amen.
I'm not really sure why but I've never really clicked with this game as much as most people do. I think the gameplay is a lot of fun, but there's a huge amount of recycled bosses/enemies that I got pretty sick of by the end of the game. Some awesome & super cinematic bosses, and a really well written story, but I've never felt like returning to it.
Although I do prefer sandbox platformers, Astro Bot is incredibly charming & never really loses steam throughout the entire playthrough. A great game for sure, but not one I've felt like returning to post-completion.
What is there to say about "The Last of Us" that hasn't already been said. Some of the greatest writing in all of fiction & I'm not even messing around.
The Triforce quest that halts the games progression towards the end is quite literally the only thing dragging this absolutely incredible game down. Beautiful, fun, timeless, game changing
Honestly I'm not sure why the internet has decided that this game **** over the last year or so. To me, even with it's shortcomings, this is a sequel SO GOOD, that I never have the desire to play Breath of The Wild again. The music is better, the dungeons are better (although still not what I'd like them to be), the abilities are more fun & lead to making more creative solutions to solve problems. I mean C'MON Y'ALL. The final boss fight alone is such a massive step up from the previous game, y'all are actually tripping balls.
Although I do feel that the final 3rd of the game is weaker than the rest of the experience... it's still one of the most magical experiences in gaming.
I have beat this game 16 times. *nuff said* No but for real. This game is lightning in a bottle. Arguably the most replayable video game of all time. Incredibly entertaining in every single way. RE4 is everything that people say it is & more.
Straight up it's just one of the most fun games ever made. It's probably the most confident sequel that I've ever played. Breakneck pacing, experimental gameplay, groundbreaking set pieces & visuals, I want this game injected into my veins.
Some of the best Nintendo has to offer! A top 5 3D platformer with loads of charm, great replay-ability, and some of the most memorable sequences in gaming over the last 10 years.
It might not be one of my favorite Zelda games, but it is undeniable that this is one of the greatest open-world games ever made. Innovative, bold, peaceful, ridiculous amounts of fun.
One of the greatest 3D platformers of all time. Mario Galaxy is constantly firing on all cylinders. A consistently enjoyable experience that I come back to every few years. MEGA-BANGER.
The only thing I can say about "Ocarina Of Time" is that when people say this is one of the greatest video games ever made... they are not lying. A genuine classic with one of the best soundtracks in gaming, & truly phenomenal pacing. A Perfect Video Game.
