Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 30

This is a $100 map pack. It really is. Value for money wise you are getting absolutely shafted. I also wonder why professional reviewers (wouldn't call em critics) are so out of touch with the public. The very first multiplayer game I joined had an aimbotter in it. The second multiplayer game I joined also had an aimbotter. They've fixed absolutely nothing!

Master of Orion 30

The most abysmal game I have ever had the misfortune of playing. Worst game of the decade. It is almost as if it had been deliberately designed to be confusing, frustrating, and bland. Trust me: Don't even play it if it's released for free.

Total War: Shogun 27

Very fun game. The learning curve is a little patchy and the tutorial for the game could have been much better (I have played no previous Total War games). It needs to explain things like friendly fire from archers, charge bonuses, attacking from two directions, campaign strategy, and so on. I also found the graphics to be a little disappointing for a 2011 game - grass sprites will pop into and out of view, etc. However once you get into the game it's rewarding, engrossing and balanced.

BF3 is all about immersiveness and freedom. The graphics engine is at least a year ahead of anything else and will cater to machines with horsepower, as well as those less powerful. Maps are generally massive; some are really open, some are more confined. You can choose to snipe or assault; use airborne or land vehicles; there really is something for everyone, and always something new to try. The bad? Single player is a token effort. For multiplayer you are forced to have both Origin and Battlelog running to play, which is short-sighted by the devs. The game is not perfect, there is the occasional minor design quirk or bug, but nothing gamebreaking. But in short, if you have any game on your 'to buy' list at all this year; BF3 has to be it.
