Super Mario Galaxy

I think Super Mario Galaxy stands out as one of, if not the finest, 3D platformers ever created. It's a game close to my heart, one I played extensively in the past but never finished. On the Switch, I finally completed it 100%, confirming its status as one of the best games ever. This is due to its captivating graphics that add a unique charm, a stellar soundtrack I consider among my all-time favorites, and exceptionally imaginative level design that continues to set the bar even years later. Gameplay on the Switch is enhanced by excellent motion controls, and the game's lore, particularly through Rosalina's storybook, weaves a heartwarming tale that surpasses other Mario titles. The only drawback is the simplicity of the regular missions' difficulty. Otherwise, I tip my hat to a game that has left a lasting impact on me then and now.

Fortnite, once a gaming phenomenon, has seen significant changes since its peak. The world has become more interactive, with features like hiding in bushes and swimming, evolving with each season. A welcome addition is the sprint function. The game's visuals have also improved with a Next-Gen update. Creative mode offers a wealth of community-created mini-games and adventures. However, over time, Fortnite can become monotonous due to weapon balancing issues and repetitive resource gathering. An in-game shop, albeit cosmetic, is worth noting. While I enjoyed my Fortnite journey, it's clear that its weaknesses have become more apparent post-hype.

Life is Strange follows Max Caulfield, a teenager with time-bending powers, in a visually stunning Pacific Northwest. Its music sets the mood perfectly. Player choices impact relationships and outcomes, albeit mainly in minor ways without altering the main plot. However, the game suffers from logical flaws and unrealistic character reactions, affecting immersion and emotions. In summary, it delivers a compelling story with authentic characters, but there's room for improvement. Nonetheless, it holds a special place in my heart, earning it an 8/10.

Wii Sports is a well-known sports game with five activities that challenge your strength and skill with excellent controller integration. The game shines in its multiplayer mode, where you can have fun with your friends. However, the single player mode lacks variety and excitement, as playing all the disciplines once can make you lose interest without any companions. Positive is that the game adapts to your skill level and gives you suitable opponents. A negative aspect is the boxing mode, which is the least enjoyable of all the sports. Wii Sports is a fun and entertaining game to play with others, but it can become dull and repetitive when you play alone.

INSIDE

Playdead’s Inside is a brilliant and unsettling puzzle-platformer. The game is short, lasting only three hours, which may make it seem expensive, but it compensates with a haunting atmosphere that is amplified by the sound and art. The game also has many exciting and tense moments that make it very immersive. The puzzles are excellent and always introduce new and inventive elements. The game runs smoothly, but I wish there was a way to run faster in some areas. There are also some shocking and bizarre moments, especially in the later part of the game. Apart from some annoying passages, I think this game is almost perfect, and it is a gem.

Mario Party 8, a Wii party game, uses the Wii Remote for a range of mini-games and boards. The boards have different themes and layouts, with enjoyable, challenging mini-games. However, it doesn't reach its full potential due to some issues. The computer opponents' challenge level is inconsistent and unfair, sometimes too easy and other times too hard. Unfortunately, the lack of an online mode reduces replay value and fun. While Mario Party 8 is entertaining with friends, improving balance and adding online features could have made it better.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a gripping game that courageously tackles mental illness, trauma, and Norse mythology, unfolding an intense and thought-provoking story. Players delve into Senua's emotional journey, where the intricate narrative dives into her struggles. Yet, the game isn't flawless. The combat system, while engaging at first, can become repetitive and tiring as you play. The linear nature and lack of branching paths limit replay value since the story follows a clear path without much variation. It's an experience best suited for those who want to explore its emotional and psychological depths.

Lego City: Undercover is an enjoyable and adventurous game that had me laughing and engaged throughout. However, there are a few missed opportunities with the open world, as some locations feel empty and lack excitement. The gameplay experience was slightly hampered for me by the repetitive music and long loading times. Additionally, the game's difficulty level could be a bit higher. Nonetheless, the game shines with its humorous main story, appealing graphics, and excellent multiplayer mode. I want to clarify that while my review may sound critical, I genuinely believe the game is quite good!

Game Freak's fantastic remake of the third Pokémon generation brings classic features to life in Hoenn, a stunning and vibrant region. New character models and dynamic battles enhance the experience, though some players might find the low difficulty disappointing. New mega evolutions add variety and strategy, while optional activities like beauty contests and PokémonAmi offer limited impact. Customize your hideout with the return of secret bases, and use the handy Pokènavi to track progress and catch 'em all. An intriguing post-game story uncovers secrets about Rayquaza and Deoxys. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is a must-play for fans.

New Super Mario Bros. is a fresh interpretation of the classic Mario Bros. series that preserves old strengths and adds new touches. The game shines with creative-level design and original power-ups that provide a lot of variety. With 80 new levels and 18 new mini-games, the title offers some content, but it could have been a bit more. Some criticisms are also the too easy difficulty and the short playing time. Nevertheless, New Super Mario Bros. is a great new take, which laid the foundation for newer games of the series!

Forza Horizon 5 is a top-notch arcade racer with amazing graphics and content. You can drive over 500 realistic cars in a huge open world that simulates Mexico’s diversity and beauty. You can also customize your cars and join various events and challenges. The game has a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle that affect the world’s appearance. The title runs smoothly on the Xbox Series X and has great sound design. The only downside is that the cars are too easy to get and lose their charm. Despite this, and some minor AI issues, Forza Horizon 5 is a must-have for Xbox Series X racing fans! It is a game that is fun and gorgeous.

Deathloop is a smart and fun game that uses time loops. You are Colt, who must kill eight targets before the day resets. You have many choices, weapons, powers, and gadgets. You explore a beautiful and lively island. The game is funny and charming, with clever dialogue and a rival who can attack you. But Deathloop has some issues. It has bugs, glitches, and long loading times. The story can be confusing, especially if you miss clues or documents. Some parts can be annoying or boring, when you repeat enemies or puzzles. But despite these issues, Deathloop is a great and original experience that is worth trying out.
