Disclosure Day

The 1990s are calling and they want their conspiracy plot devices back. Disclosure Day has a genuinely interesting premise, but its disjointed, and at times laughable, storytelling, combined with plot holes worthy of Swiss cheese, takes an otherwise highly crafted film and turns it into an exercise that insults the audience’s intelligence. This is yet another example of no one speaking truth to power. Who in Spielberg’s orbit has the courage to tell him “no”? Judging by this film, no one. If there are aliens out there, I wouldn’t blame them if they kidnapped a few more cattle or graffitied our cornfields after being portrayed as a race of bumbling morons.

The perfect date movie no matter how long your relationship. The actors did a magnificent job. The writers really shine. And the director and crew make every scene feel authentic. Job well done to all, especially to Kumail and Emily (the real one and to Zoe).

I haven't laughed this hard since Steve Carell's "Get Smart". The improv in this film is as good as it gets. And callbacks to the original were a welcome treat. Go ahead, see this one in the theater and watch it to the final frame. You're welcome.

Not only was the single camera-shot technique brilliantly executed, we are treated to a front row seat to witness the paranoid and insecure perspective of the film's main character, Riggan Thompson. The dialog was masterful and and the performances had me believing I, too, was paranoid and insecure. Kudos to director Alejandro González Iñárritu and his financial backers for taking such a bold risk, something largely absent in Hollywood. And any film that questions the credibility and relevance of critics get extra points. GO SEE!
