US is an excellent slasher with social commentary on the current state of affairs in the US. Do we fear the others as much as our selves? A bit ambiguous on the finer details of its plot, still Peel delivers another intriguing addition to his own brand of horror.

More raunchy than the Queen biopic but with unlikable characters. The actors are fine and have a certain on screen chemistry, but the uneven script doesn’t do them any favours. Especially the last act is dreadful doing a 360 and wanting the audience to just forget what has passed before. If you like your protagonists to be as hedonistic obnoxious as possible or fancy a nostalgia trip set around 80's sunset strip extravaganza it ain't half bad.

From hell with love. Hell being the misguided creative room of the studio that thought bringing this to the masses. It's not all bad, some of it is even enjoyable. Who doesn't' like a barrage of swearwords and dismembering of limbs?

Light on factual information but loaded with thought-provoking dialog and imagery. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If Terence Malick would have made a film about Polaroid, I’m sure it would look a bit like this one.

The Devil has the best music and so it seems the best social awareness groups. Hail Satan? is a humorous, touching and ultimately empowering portrayal of those who feel different in a fractured and increasingly divided society.

In a cinematic universe where the bar is set by the likes of the latest Avengers, Captain Marvel seems derivative and lacks originality. Brie Larson does the best with the material at hand and the chemistry with Jackson is tangible still, the whole package feels a bit bland. If only there was a interesting villain to offset it’s blandness. Where are does space cats when you need them?

Two tales; one set in hellish Siberia, the other in the modern Western world. One iIntriguing, the other not so much. Not bad by any means. A fascinating tale about where synthetic biology may take us.

Gripping tale of seeking out flaws and patterns in life through those lives who have touched upon it. Embarrassing and brutally honest.

If ever Disney decided on making a rock biopic this would be it; a sanitized fairy-tale about one the greatest rock bands and frontmen in history. Neither good or bad the film crafts their greatest hits and Wikipedia facts into one easy to swallow happy meal. Big on nostalgia, a bit short on the actual grit that goes in to becoming a band of such magnitude.

Drenched in vivid 80’s nostalgia and even with it’s disjointed story, there is a lure to the visuals that pulls you in and leave you feverishly guessing at some of it’s intent. Enter Cage dueling with a chainsaw and all is forgiven. It’s amazing how something bad can feel so good.

The Act of Killing is unlike anything I have ever seen. The ease and absurdity in which former gang leaders play out acts of torture and killing is something to behold. Neither funny or redeeming this movie shows us how thin the line is between darkness and light. Cruelty and caring are just different forks in the road.

A terrific imaginative take on the comic book. Besson shows us his most lively animated universe yet; a space opera that feels more ‘ a long time ago’ then any recent installments of that universe we all know and love. Muted performances from DeHaan and Delevingne and an uneven script may bog the movie down but there is still much fun to be had.

Often disregarded or overlooked, The Fisher King is probably Gilliam’s best work to date. Restrained in all the typical Gilliam flourishes it’s the closest to a real life fairytale fantasy as one can get.

A drama school essential for every actor striving to be proficient at their craft. This movie is an inspiration with standout performances from Baldwin and Lemmon.

An art film for teenagers as the master himself calls it. Full of raw style and capturing the rebel charm of Dillon and Rourke cast as brothers, Rumble Fish is on of the finest films Coppola has directed.

Lo and Behold isn’t Herzog’s best nor his worst but still an entertaining journey down the internet rabbit hole. I just wish that journey would entail more than briefly peeking what’s everybody up to in wonderland.

Like Alejandro Jodorowsky before him the Fountain balances kitsch and art. Not everyone will be pleased. But those who love cinema should be excited for this is Aronofsky tapping in to the things that make cinema great.
