It manages to at once skewer the art world while simultaneously wholly embracing it. I saw this Palme d'Or winner in a small art house theater, and at times the entire crowd was raucously **** other times (the unforgettable ape/ man performance piece) frozen in rapt heart pounding attention. Hilarious, harsh, unflinching...must see movie of 2017.

Basically a long, slick music video built on a basic, formulaic heist movie plot. Yaaaawwwwn.

It's a coming of age scrapbook, that somehow after flipping through it, adds up to wonderfully fleshed out and impactful experience. The last scene wraps up this movie in such a bleak and perfect manner, summarizing the film with the protagonist's sudden realization that the adulthood she has so desperately craved is officially upon her, and it's not as liberating as she had imagined. It recalls The 400 Blows, and it's famous and also perfect ending.

Following up the amazing Tangerine, Sean Baker brings home the goods again with this grungy slice of life tale. Sweet and unsparingly desperate. This is top level indie film making.

Non-"Star Wars Universe" feel throughout (there's actually a scene in this movie with people walking around in futuristic TUXEDOS for crying out loud). Rian Johnson has made a cheesy stock Avengers formula movie with no respect for the lore and history of Star Wars. It's one thing to make a bad Star Wars movie. It's another altogether to ruin the universe itself. An abomination.
