Weathering with You5

The movie is beautiful to look at, but the protagonist is a 16 year old runaway boy who seemingly whines and screams his way through life. He is over emotional and needs Prozac. We never do find out why he ran away. The story is a complete fantasy, his girlfriend is able to create sunny days when it's raining, but that part didn't bother me. I also found the soundtrack very annoying at times, with a piano repeating the same refrain over and over. I love Anime, but this was not one of my favorites.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum9
Sep 8, 2020
The look and sound of the movie is excellent. I watched it in 4K. In some of the action sequences you can't help but laugh out loud at the ludicrousness. The action is over the top, and even though he is WAY outnumbered by the opponents in every fight scene (especially the Halle Berry fight sequence with dogs), there somehow only seems to be a couple of people at a time that fight him, but the fight sequences are all about the choreography and will have you scratching your head about "how did they do that?" If you cannot stand gore, do not watch a John Wick film. I admit I even had to cover my eyes a few times. They should rename the film "John Wick - The Man Who Cannot Die". When you see the end of the film in particular you'll know what I mean.

Alita: Battle Angel7
Dec 5, 2019
Alita has characters that you actually like and rarely make stupid decisions. The CGI is excellent. Personally did not like the love story or the sometimes distracting soundtrack. The story doesn't really stand alone, the ending signifies more is to come. I felt that the Christoph Waltz character was a little too low key for an actor of his caliber. However, there was more to like than dislike and I hope they make a sequel.

Rocketman6

This is a really difficult movie to critique. Elton is my favorite musician of all time. This movie is filmed in a fantastical musical style, taking leeway with the timelines of the songs. For example, they have him starting with Crocodile Rock at the famous Troubadour show that rocketed him to fame. That song was written several years later and was never played at the Troubadour. The second half of the film is a complete downer, concentrating on his drug and alcohol abuse which is extensive. I can't help but think that Elton experienced SOME good times during this period as well. He even toured Russia with Ray Cooper during this time, something nobody had ever done before that was never mentioned in the film. I was very disappointed that his fantastic band mates, Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson, and Dee Murray were never mentioned and they certainly had a part in the overall success. As far as the portrayal, Taron Egerton does a great job. I honestly would have preferred he lip sang to Elton's songs, because his voice is nothing like Eltons and I found it distracting, but at least he can sing, and he looks somewhat like Elton. Overall the movie was such a downer that it isn't something I would want to watch again. The movie seems to have been made with Broadway in mind rather than a straight up Documentary style. Not my cup of tea.

Ad Astra6
Oct 7, 2019
I don't mind the slow pacing - but the movie really pushes the limits of believability in many scenes. I actually chuckled at the ridiculousness of certain scenes, especially when he used a shield through a rock field which not only did not push him backwards but didn't change his course, and he somehow projected the trajectory back to his craft perfectly from a spinning turbine. WOW. Although Brad Pitt is fine in the roll, I didn't feel a connection to him, and didn't feel the connection between him and his father either. The overall look of the film is excellent and its saving grace. I'm still not sure what was causing the electrical surges that was taking place throughout the universe, but some of the dialogue was muddied here and there and difficult to decipher. People sitting around me were complaining about the slow pacing when the film ended. The film reminded me of a space version of Apocalypse Now, where the destination is a mad man and the journey getting there is treacherous and death. Ad Astra is not at the level of that masterpiece of course, but maybe worth seeing for the overall visual look.

The Peanut Butter Falcon7
Sep 9, 2019
Shia LaBoeuf carries this film. It is dialogue heavy. Some parts are unbelievable, and probably could have done without the female character, but Hollywood seems to think you cannot make a film without a love story or women won't attend. Has a lot of the stereotypical southern characters you've seen in many films. Zack Gottsagen also does a fine job. Overall a feel good modern Huck Finn type of movie. A lot better than most films available for sure.

Shadow9
Aug 19, 2019
Shadow is a mesmerizing movie experience. Shot in a monochromatic style, but with accurate flesh tones, it is beautiful to look at. The over exaggerated acting style makes it feel like you are watching opera. The fight scenes are as beautiful as they are brutal. The scene where the warriors are sliding down the street with their metal umbrellas spinning has to be seen to be believed. You're not really sure who is in complete control of the outcome until the end of the film. If you're going to watch it at home on video, watch it in 4k.

Waterworld7
Jul 30, 2019
Kind of a Mad Max meets Clint Eastwood flick. The movie got trashed by the critics when it was first released. It cost a fortune to make the film and you can see why when you watch it with the elaborate sets and special effects, both of which are stellar. 20+ years later the movie gets more generous reviews. Lots of action sequences. There are illogical moments, like where do the smokers get their endless supply of tobacco in a world with no land, and the endless supply of ammunition and fuel as well, but it's better to just sit back and enjoy all the action. I watched the movie in 4k and it looks amazing, one of the better 4k movies I've watched, and the soundtrack is equally great - your subwoofers will be put to the test.

Mary Poppins Returns6
Jul 29, 2019
So is Mary Poppins Returns practically perfect in every way? Hardly. I'm a fan of Emily Blunt and she is solid in the role, although smiles a little less than Julie Andrews. The movie follows the exact same formula as the original making it predictable. In the first movie the kids didn't like taking their medicine so Mary came up with a way to make it enjoyable (a spoonful of sugar), in this movie it's bath time. The singing and dancing are fine throughout, but for me the weak point of the movie is the songs. I can't remember a single song after watching this movie. The songs are too wordy, not catchy. It's not a bad movie but once again it feels that Disney is simply remaking older movies because they have run out of original ideas.

The Great Wall7
Apr 1, 2019
Here's the thing with The Great Wall. Is it so bad that it's good? For me, yes. First of all, I saw this on my 4K TV, and it's one of the greatest looking films I've seen so far in that format. Gorgeous cinematography all the way around. The sound is equally superb, and when the soldiers are pounding the big bass drums it will put your subwoofer to the test and get your blood pumping. Many of the scenes obviously had 3D in mind while filming, and I'm sure the film looks great in that format as well, although I didn't see it in 3D. Some of the scenes are laughably ridiculous, such as the bungee jumpers that try to kill the beasts one at a time. It's very easy for the monsters to pick them off. Some of the acting is a little wooden, although the bad dialogue is to blame more than the actors. The obvious question while watching the movie is why don't the monsters simply climb up the wall where there are no soldiers and weapons to confront?. But then there would be no movie as the soldiers would get killed. This could have been a classic movie if more time was spent on character development, but it looks like they decided on concentrating on the visual and aural senses, and they certainly succeeded on that. I was never bored watching the film. Another movie made in the same vain was "Mad Max Fury Road", but Mad Max was a much better film because they did concentrate on the characters and didn't make it only a visual and aural movie. Still, if you want to show off your whole system this is a great choice.

Green Book9
Feb 11, 2019
Did I feel a little manipulated after watching Green Book? Yes. So what. Nothing wrong with making a movie that makes you feel good about race relations. A refreshing role reversal taking place in 1962 where the African American is the educated, sophisticated person teaching the prejudice bully from the Bronx about life (and vice versa in some cases). Although they run into the usual cliched circumstances while touring the South, the movie is basically about two opposites who become friends and learn from each other. A lot of humor along the way and terrific performances all around, especially from both leads.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout7
Aug 13, 2018
Overall kinda disappointed with this film. It has the two overdone things I hate, car chases and especially the DREADED COUNTDOWN TIMER. Talk about unoriginal. As soon as they showed the timer I rolled my eyes like I do in the other 50 movies I've seen that have used it. Gee, I wonder if they will save the world at the last second like in all the others? Without giving anything away, logically it appears there was no reason for the bad guy to use a timer. I also got a little tired of the constant changes about who the bad guy is, and who the good guy is. The movie is well made, action packed and entertaining, but if you want originality look elsewhere.

The Ornithologist7
Jul 10, 2018
What a difficult movie to review. This movie is weird, and as the movie progresses it gets weirder and weirder. I don't profess to understanding the end of the movie at all. Still, I admit it was not only watchable but kind of mesmerizing. I guess the movie is based on the life of a Saint? Not sure. The film is very slow and methodical. Beautiful to look at. But it's not for everyone.

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi5
Jul 10, 2018
Every single scene in this film has been regurgitated from the original three films. They simply have different actors/characters. They even use the same setting in one of the scenes. They substituted settings for other scenes. I also don't like how the characters can use the force by projecting themselves to a different location. We never saw this in previous films and it would have solved a lot of problems in those films. Also, Rey became a Jedi Master with hardly any training. On the plus side, the acting and special effects were good throughout. I wish there was some originality but the writers seem to be out of ideas.

The Royal Tenenbaums9

I love Wes Anderson's quirky movies. Gene Hackman is brilliant in this film and possibly my favorite performance by him ever. If not for him, the film would be depressing and too melancholy. Good performances by everyone else as well.

Paddington 28
Jun 28, 2018
Paddington 2 is equal in quality to the first film. I don't think the Paddington movies are must see classics, but are sweet and funny and well made. The most impressive aspect of the Paddington films are how realistic the bear is. All the scenes with Paddington in them seem realistic and the interaction with the live actors is excellent. Quite a technical feat. I also thought Hugh Grant's performance as the bad guy was very good, showing a lot of goofiness and theatrics that we don't get to see in his usual low key performances.

The Girl Without Hands8
Jun 11, 2018
Make no mistake, the star of this adult fairy tale is the animation itself. Beautiful to look at, like nothing I've seen before. I enjoyed the entire film with the exception of the artsy confusing ending. A must see for animation buffs.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole8
Jun 5, 2018
Not all animation is meant for all kids to watch. This is a particularly violent movie, with little in the way of humor. The story seemed like a comparison to **** Germany to me. You have a race of Owls calling themselves the "Pure Ones" and want to destroy all other owls on earth to have a master race. It also pits brother against brother. Dark stuff. The violent action scenes were so chaotic you couldn't always tell what was going on. As an adult animation buff, I liked this movie. The story may have been a little simplistic, but the animation itself is absolutely stellar and quite beautiful in spots. The flight scenes were amazing. The voice characterizations are way above average. A lot of work went into the making of the film and it shows. Watch it on Blu Ray for the best enjoyment. I did not see the 3D version so cannot comment on that. Recommended.

Shaun the Sheep Movie10
May 14, 2018
I rarely give movies a 10 star rating, but this film is perfect. First and foremost, it's hilarious. There are many laugh out loud moments. The movie relies mostly on sight gags as there is no dialogue. Anyone who has watched the first 30 minutes of Pixar's "Wall-E" knows that dialogue is not needed for an excellent experience. Aardman's stop-motion animation is second to none and is dazzling. Even the low-brow humor (fart jokes, etc.) works in this movie, where in other animated films it feels tiresome and dated. I hope there is a sequel someday.

Isle of Dogs8
Apr 23, 2018
The look of this film blew me away. Wonderful animation and it's worth the price of admission by itself. I guess the best word to describe the movie is "witty". There were really no laugh out loud moments for me, but instead a lot of chuckles throughout and the movie never bored me. Anderson's last stop-motion animation, Fantastic Mr. Fox, was funnier and definitely does have a lot of laugh out loud moments, but I still enjoyed this film. The cast does a great job with the voice overs. Wes Anderson remains one of the most consistent filmmakers out there. I'm never disappointed.

The Shape of Water5
Apr 23, 2018
Nobody who lives in a second floor apartment building would intentionally flood their building with a room full of water. You cannot fill a bathroom entirely with water by sticking a towel under the door. When the creature eats her cat alive she is not even emotional when told. She doesn't seem to care. Nobody would have the kind of access she had to a top secret room where they kept the creature like she did. There were so many unbelievable moments to this film I was just rolling my eyes most of the time. I just couldn't let my common sense go and get into the love story. Disappointing.

Maudie7
Apr 18, 2018
Good film about a headstrong woman who doesn't let her handicap of rheumatoid arthritis bring her down. Ethan Hawke, who is almost unrecognizable to me in this film, plays a socially inept man who hires her as a maid, and of course they eventually fall in love. He is abusive to her early in the relationship, both physically and mentally, but he changes with time as he realizes he is in love with her. Good performances all around, especially by Sally Hawkins who is so convincing in her character.

This movie worked for me due to Jack Black. He provided most of the laughs and made the movie fun. Dialogue was above average for an action flick. Worthwhile.

Ferdinand6
Mar 28, 2018
As I watched Ferdinand I couldn't help feeling I've seen the movie before. The movie certainly breaks no new ground, and most of the characters don't have a lot of personality. The movie perks up a little when the goat is introduced and gives the movie some much needed humor, but sometimes the goat's humor feels forced. The horses are the funniest part of the film, but they don't have a lot of screen time. The "bull in the china shop" scene is clever. Overall, pretty forgettable and middle of the road.

Moonlight7
Mar 5, 2018
There have been several movies made about the plight of homosexual adolescence, so it isn't very original. Young Gay people are bullied and treated the same no matter what "class" of society you grow up in. This guy had the triple whammy of being gay, growing up in the hood, and having a crack-head mother who mistreated him. That is what made the movie interesting for me. How he somehow makes it to adulthood and survives with all those obstacles. The acting and direction is excellent throughout and is worth seeing. I'm glad I saw it on Blu Ray so I could turn on the close-caption feature, otherwise I wouldn't have understood some of the dialogue if I were in a theater.
Mar 5, 2018
Black Panther7
Mar 5, 2018
Normally I don't care for Super Hero movies. They all have pretty much the same plot. This one is no different as far as the plot goes and is predictable. I am giving it high marks for the look of the movie, however. Pretty people, pretty costumes and make-up, pretty places, good special effects. Fight scenes are just OK with the standard fast editing so you can't tell what's going on, and of course we have the ubiquitous boring car chase that I wish movies would stop doing. There is one flawed scene towards the beginning of the movie where the space ship flies into a bunch of trees and exposes the futuristic city. The city is completely lifeless! No cars, trains, people, other flying machines, etc. Weird. Did they run out of money for the effects? Overall a visual feast but not much else.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri6
Jan 22, 2018
There is an art to making quirky films. The Coen Bros., Wes Anderson, David Lynch are all masters of the genre. They make films that are quirky and yet somehow believable. This film has moments that are so over the top they would never happen in real life. For example, there is a scene where a teenager at a school throws a soda on the Frances McDormand character's car, and the way she handles it would never happen in real life, and there were no consequences for her actions. In fact, she does several outrageous things without any consequences. There are other unbelievable outrageous moments that I won't go into. Other times the quirkiness works, so it's a mixed bag for me. This movie is definitely not a visitor's guide for the state of Missouri as most of the town are portrayed as bigots, including the police force. The acting was stellar throughout. Lastly, I hated the ending.

The Boss Baby7
Dec 27, 2017
Reviews for this film are all over the place. The previews in theaters did nothing for me so I expected it to be terrible, but I bought the blu-ray at a budget price during Black Friday and found myself laughing quite a bit. I liked the premise that the older brother, who was used to being spoiled as an only child, suddenly had to share his parent's affection with a new sibling. They hate each other at first, of course, and grow closer as the movie progresses. Unlike some people I was never bored and even though the plot turns even more absurd towards the end (taking a road trip to Vegas by themselves) I still enjoyed the movie overall. It certainly had more laughs than Captain Underpants, the last animated feature I saw.
Dec 11, 2017
Monsters vs Aliens7
Dec 11, 2017
This is a loud, action packed film. Animation is excellent. I think I laughed out loud once but had lots of small chuckles so I recommend it. If they would have beefed up the humor and it wasn't so predictable it would have been better. Certainly not a classic but above average as animation goes.

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron8
Dec 9, 2017
The look of the film is excellent. Not as detailed as some animation (example - you can't see the horses hair, it is just a solid color) but I actually appreciate that. I know I'm watching animation. The story is simple, but characters well developed. Nice to see an animated film not relying on bathroom humor that is loud and hectic. Despite what some critics say, this is a family film that all ages will appreciate. I'm not sure the Bryan Adams songs were needed or added that much to the film, but they weren't distracting either.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie5
Nov 27, 2017
I love animation in general, so I check out most releases. Because of mediocre reviews I avoided seeing Captain Underpants in theaters when it came out. I saw it on Blu Ray instead. This is one of those children's animated films that doesn't cross over for adult enjoyment. A lot of frantic, sophomoric low brow humor that annoyed me more than entertained me. Children are way more sophisticated than the makers of this film think. I think I laughed exactly once at a joke involving supermodels that was said so quickly you would miss it if you weren't paying close attention. I rolled my eyes and cringed for much of the film. The animation look is excellent, as is most animation made these days.

Coco8
Nov 27, 2017
Remember when Pixar films were funny? I mean, REALLY gut wrenching funny like the "Toy Story" films or "Monster's Inc."? I miss those days. This film has a few chuckles and a lot of impressive, beautiful animation, but like most recent Pixar offerings it relies more on tugging your heart strings than making you laugh. I enjoyed the movie but it certainly isn't a Pixar classic like "Finding Nemo" (their last masterpiece). I feel it is probably their finest film since "The Good Dinosaur", a very underrated Pixar film. Like most Pixar films there is a short film before the main event. It was probably the longest "short" ever, more like a mini-movie. It involved Olaf the snowman and Christmas and was enjoyable, although lengthy.

Cars 37
Nov 8, 2017
Cars 2 is my least favorite Pixar film of all time and I'm happy to say that this recent feature of the Cars franchise is a vast improvement. It isn't as good as the first film, however. Thankfully we do get to see Radiator Springs again, if briefly. The movie doesn't have a true Villain, just a snotty newcomer who we only see during the races. Speaking of the races, they are thankfully short and not drawn out. The movie is mainly about Lightning McQueen facing retirement and passing the baton to another racer. It is also refreshing to see an animated film that is geared towards boys. 75% of animated films are made for little girls these days. Not to say that both genders won't enjoy it, just relieved it's not another Princess movie.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them6
May 11, 2017
I have enjoyed Eddie Redmayne in films, but he lacks personality in this one. He has little dialogue throughout the movie, and Dan Fogler steals every scene he is in with him. Colin Farrell's bad guy Percival doesn't have enough character development, and also seems a little one note. One thing you can tell the filmmakers spent a LOT of time on is the special effects, because it's a special effects extravaganza. Because of that it does give a sense of wonder and made me enjoy the film enough to recommend it. I just wish I cared about the characters more.

The BFG7
Apr 19, 2017
After watching the preview for The BFG in theaters, I didn't have a desire to see it because the preview didn't grab me. After discovering it is directed by Spielberg I decided to watch it. Glad I did. Loved the first half of the film. The second half, which gets really silly, not as much. As always, Spielberg gets a first class performance from a child actor (Ruby Barnhill) and a terrific performance from Mark Rylance as the giant. If you have a great subwoofer and want to show it off, this is the film for you. When the girl first meets the giant his footsteps and movements will make your entire house shake! Overall I really enjoyed the film.

Sing6
Mar 31, 2017
The animation and visual look of "Sing" is excellent. The story is simple, but not altogether predictable. Not sure what the moral of the movie is, but I guess it would be to follow your dream no matter what. If you're going to have a really simple story, then you should make the movie as funny as possible. That's where the film fails for me. I didn't laugh all that much. It tries hard to be funny, and may succeed with small children, but not so much for adults. The strangest part of the film is the Mom pig who creates an automated system for taking care of her large family while she is at rehearsals. In a single night she creates a majorly complex auto feed, auto laundry system that would make NASA proud. She needs to be an inventor, not a singer. Not a horrible film, but could have been better.

Logan7
Mar 20, 2017
Critics are stating this is not the usual superhero movie which is why I went to see it. I know now they are referring to the human interest part of the film, as the rest of the movie is the usual villain vs. good guy predictability. It was way more gory than it needed to be with a lot of cursing, so I would not recommend this film for a young audience. Hugh Jackman is terrific in the film, as is the young girl (Dafne Keen). Not a film I would ever want to see again, as it was too gory and predictable for my taste.

John Wick: Chapter 28
Feb 21, 2017
They took everything that was great about the 1st installment and made it even better. I am always whining about the fight scenes in movies being so fast edited that you can't tell what's going on (the last Bourne movie for example), but in this film they actually take the time to choreograph all the fights and you can see it all. Very action-packed, and at times very gory. The audience was screaming and squirming at times. Great locales too, especially the catacombs in Italy. The ending sets up another sequel and I look forward to it. The only real negative is that the bad guys can't shoot and kill John at close distances even when he is grossly outnumbered, but of course that happens in every shoot-em-up film of this genre. Really well done film.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story7
Dec 20, 2016
I enjoyed Rogue One despite its flaws. The first half hour is somewhat complicated as you are trying to decipher who is who and what is going on. Then you realize that most of the characters have the exact same personality and temperament. I think there is supposed to be chemistry between the two leads (Jyn and Cassian) but since they both have the same personality it fails. A new robot (K-2SO) is introduced to bring some MUCH needed humor into the movie, but not enough to compare to the original three movies made by Lucas in the 1970s. It seems recent directors forget how much humor was in the original films, part of what makes them so special. Also, the last two films are not very original. There aren't many scenes that we haven't seen before in other Star Wars Films. A good soundtrack should emphasize the mood of the scene - you should not be constantly aware of it. What saves this film are the action sequences and spectacular CGI images. The CGI of the two characters from the first trilogy are pretty amazing overall, but you can tell something is a little "off". I also applaud the ending which is not the typical Hollywood happy ending. There is enough good in the film to satisfy the typical Star Wars fan until the next installment, but don't expect perfection.

Moana8
Dec 5, 2016
Sorry little boys. Another Disney movie means another Princess movie. It seems that is all Disney makes anymore, but can you blame them? "Frozen" made about a billion dollars world wide. This latest Princess film follows the standard formula. This time an Island Princess leaves home for an adventure (as opposed to leaving a castle, or tree top, etc). The film looks great, has a few really good songs and a couple not so good, and some humor here and there (although not as funny as some other Princess films like "Tangled"). It even boasts the world's stupidest chicken, although that schtick got old pretty quickly. Moana's traveling companion, Maui, is the standard issue annoying character who fights Moana every step of the way, until the end of course. Despite the lack of originality it is a well made film and I enjoyed it. Boys will have to wait for Disney's competition to come up with another "How to Train Your Dragon" or "Kung Fu Panda" sequel to appeal to them and fill the void left by Disney.

Arrival6
Nov 28, 2016
I don't mind that the film is slow. 2001 is a slow movie and I love every frame of it. This movie is boring at times. I looked at my watch a couple of times. I don't believe we could decipher the complex symbols as quickly as they did, and I always have to wonder why super intelligent beings have a hard time learning our language(s). I also felt ZERO chemistry between the two leads. I also thought about the movie "Contact" several times as there is too many similarities. On the positive side, the visuals are striking at times, and Amy Adams is wonderful, as she is in every film she is in.

The Accountant6
Oct 17, 2016
Ben Affleck does his version of Jason Stathom/Clint Eastwood's persona of the quiet emotionless man who is all action. He does it well. In this case, there is a reason for his personality, he has Autism. I enjoyed most of the film, but the ridiculous final battle with the "twist" ending ruined the film for me. I won't give it away but the odds of this event happening are astronomical. There are some unanswered questions in the film as well, such as "who is the mysterious lady on the phone who gives him his instructions?", but I supposed they will get answered in the inevitable sequels.

The Little Prince5
Sep 6, 2016
I love animation but this film really missed the mark for me. It is beautifully filmed and represents the finest stop motion I have seen, but the film itself was boring and confusing. I can't imagine children liking this film, or understanding the deep-meaning plot.

Jason Bourne6
Aug 24, 2016
I like the Bourne movies, but this is my least favorite. Too over the top unbelievable. I'm also over chase scenes in movies. There is nothing they can show me in a chase scene anymore that I haven't seen already. The chase scenes in this film (and there are two) are especially horrible, with overly edited scenes that consist of many one second shots each filmed with a hand held camera that wouldn't stop moving. NOTE TO HOLLYWOOD - PLEASE STOP WITH THE SHAKY CAMERA ALREADY! The plot is also unnecessarily convoluted for the first hour. There are good moments too. The acting is good, when they are allowed to act which isn't very often in this frenetic action pic. It's always fun to see Bourne outwit everyone else. The hand-to-hand fight scenes were pretty good too, except for the fast editing and moving camera. It was pretty good for the matinee price of $6.25 that I paid. If I would have paid full price it would have been a bigger disappointment.

Sausage Party6

Men are wieners, women are buns, there is a lesbian taco, a Jewish bagel (modeled obviously after Woody Allen), gay people are the fruits, and many more characters in this raunchy animated comedy full of horny supermarket items. It was so profane that I felt they were trying to set a record for the most number of times the "F" word was used in a film. You will hear every cuss word in the book many times. I chuckled a lot throughout the film, but really can't remember many laugh out loud moments. The theater I was in was fairly full and it was quiet most of the time. Although it really wasn't good enough for me to recommend I have to give it points for being politically incorrect.

Finding Dory8

As sequels go, Finding Dory is an unqualified Pixar success. Colorful, funny, and moving with outstanding animation and 3D, there are no boring moments. It's a little more "frantic" than the original Nemo, and since the storyline is similar some of the freshness of the original is gone. In the original Nemo had to find a way out of one aquarium. In this one, fish are constantly hopping from container to container to container even moving from building to building making the story seem less believable. The rescue scene of the Van on the freeway is way over the top and felt like a Looney Tunes cartoon rather than Pixar. The animated short "Piper" they show at the beginning, however, is outstanding and probably my favorite short they have done so far. Incredible animation, maybe the best I've ever seen.

Love & Friendship8

Kate Beckinsale shines as the scheming Lady Susan. Tom Bennett is hilarious as the silly Sir James Martin and the rest of the cast great as well. The dialogue is quick and occasionally difficult to follow, but you can still keep up with the movie even if you miss a phrase here and there. Costumes and locations were excellent. Most of the movie takes place indoors, which makes it feel like you are watching a play. Thoroughly entertaining.

The Jungle Book8

First it was all the Princess movies. Now Disney is cashing in by making live action films of all their old animated classics. I enjoyed this remake, although I still think the original fully animated film has more charm. This is a darker version, and in fact some of the sequences may be too much for young children. The boy who plays the lead, Neel Sethi, does a fine job and does not overact like so many children his age tends to do. The visuals are the true star of the picture. Animation keeps getting more and more detailed as time goes on which can create controversy. If it is too realistic looking, you don't even feel you're watching an animated film anymore. The voice-over work is also fine across the board. Overall a winner.

Deadpool7

Deadpool is not your typical superhero movie. More a comedy/parody, the one liners are fast and furious. So many, in fact, that many lines went right over the heads of the entire audience. Lines that were supposed to be funny sometimes weren't. You would have to have a vast knowledge of pop culture to get all the jokes. Still, many lines were funny. The film has a justified "R" rating, for both language and violence. Ryan Reynolds was terrific in the film and was definitely the right actor for the job. The action sequences, like so many today, are so overly edited that you can't always tell what is going on. I liked the movie, I just didn't think it was quite funny enough to be a classic.
