Worth watching if you're a Yu Yu Hakusho fan, but it's still not a good adaptation. So it basically falls apart after episode 2. The first 2 episodes show what this series could have been. They're faithful to the source material and the fight scenes where well choreographed and were fun to watch. For some reason they decide to try and cram in 2 seasons of the anime into the last 3 episodes. Yes that includes the training ark and the Dark tournament ark. It doesn't work. The fight scenes are still fun to watch but the plot gets butchered for the shortened runtime. I don't understand why Netflix couldn't have just committed to this like they did with One Piece, it could have been great.

The character designs are kind of trash. Sometimes I didnt know if I should laugh or cry. Last two episodes saved the series from garbage. They had cool enemies and nice fights.

Don't waste any time with this adaptation. I'm not continue watching a show where a guy is just bullied for a group of 5 just trying to punish that guy for fun almost killing him. Not for me, complete trash. They are focusing in the wrong part of the anime/manga.

Wish I could've loved this adaption, but unfortunately this show moved way too fast. I felt like it was speed running events and character arcs through the show. If I wasn't familiar with Yu Yu Hakusho beforehand, this would've been completely incomprehensible. However, I thought the action was excellent.

If you are a fan of the original anime/manga, do not watch this. Like most live action interpretations from Hollywood, it completely avoids the source materials story, doesn't pace well as you had to squeeze everything into a few episodes and completely drives character narratives in confusing directions. The fighting & CGI cannot save this the bland vibes & atmosphere of this retelling. I would have preferred a studio take on the challenge of making a sequel to the anime similar to Initial D --- > MF Ghost. I guess that takes too much original thought & effort.

This is an embarrassing remake. Has absolutely no charm. There’s barely any music or atmosphere, they condensed everything into 5 episodes and honestly it isn’t worth watching other than the fight/action scenes, which are decent. It destroys the source material, the story is gutted.

From what I've seen, Netflix has done a really good job. The characters are not very similar to those in the manga and anime, but overall they are very good. I saw an example in a TikTok clip at ****. I put it down and had a chance to watch this series. It's fun. It makes me think of the cartoon Keng Fa Prathan from my childhood. I'll have to hurry back and take a look.

Needs a more diverse re: accurate looking cast. Like the live action One Piece. Besides that nice acting and captures the feel. However, live action anime will never progress till they stop using only Japanese actors.

If you loved the story of the manga, don't look this. 4 beasts arc? Cutted. Genkai training tournament? Cutted. Dark Tournament? Cutted. Combat are good, at least.

For me its 10/10 Its clearly a child borned out of love from the creators. The story is changed in some cases, but its expected. The anime doesnt have fillers, therefore there is no chance they can fit everything in the live action series. So dont be a hater. Overal good CGI, great visuals, amazing actros, amazing fighting scenes.

Fighting yokai (demons) is a staple of Japanese YA fantasy pop culture. I'm no expert. I suspect this is the highest production value the genre has ever been given. This is based on a Shonen Jump (Japan) Yokai Spirit Detective graphic novel. Five episodes and no cliff hanger ending--thank God. I consider Netflix's Alice in Borderland, One Piece (King of the Pirates) and Blue Eye Samurai in this class of high budget, colorful pop culture. Final Fantasy videogame fans will recognize in in Yu Yu Hakusho the close analogues of FF male and female stock characters. Since the scripts are ridden with familiar tropes, I've wondered what makes these offerings so watchable. I believe the answer is DEDICATION. Both in front of the camera and behind it and in post-produciton, a level of 100% dedication is visible again and again. In Yu Yu Hakusho the four lead male actors endure much wire work and brutal stunt falls on cement floors, over and over again. I believe no stunt doubles were used; and, stunt double faces were not replaced. In Western films you primarily only see this level of intense dedication from Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible films. The directing is also top-drawer. Episode five is almost all fighting. The look and feel is very much based on Final Fantasy boss fights. Everyone is so committed, it's easy to keep watching. The VFX work is so seamless, I can't tell what's real and what is CGI. The CGI is of Chinese quality, the highest CGI compliment I know to give. The stunt work in the first two episodes connects with the great acrobatic-contortionist fast-zombie stunt work which started, I believe with Train to Busan (2016). The bullied kid, once he turns into a zombie, steals every scene he is in. Congratulations to all involved who made this.

YYH 2023 is a very enjoyable remake. The plot is very condensed compared to the source material, but it makes sense and it works. Overall the casting is well done and the show captures the spirit of YYH (while accidentally also capturing the spirit of Mortal Kombat 1995). Anyone who enjoyed YYH or MK95 back in the 90s will find this remake very enjoyable and fun. The only downsides are with how trimmed the story is, some fun moments never happen. However scenes that might not have aged as well are completely gone and it balances out.
