We could all use a good summer TV diversion around now, and if tonight's entertaining, intriguing premiere turns out to be a fair guide, Dome could be just what we've needed.

Under the Dome gets off to an addictive start on Monday, so much so that it’s hard to imagine any second-episode falloff in viewership.

It is a good show that is generally interesting but by the third season it feels like it never really hit the mark or reach the heights it was quite supposed to

Feel like I wasted my life watching this to the end. I was hoping for a deeper explanation into the goals and methods of the alien invaders but instead I got a soap opera. How many times can a character switch sides from good to bad? How many times can the dome itself create a reason for crisis? From suffocation to becoming magnetized, the "dome is going to kill us" plot device was overused to exhaustion. The final manifestation of the alien presence, through the body snatcher angle, was kind of cheesy, and Eva as the Queen did little to instil fear, instead laughter. Big Jim is the main saving grace here as he was far and away the most interesting, nuanced, character. Overall, worth watching I guess if you have absolutely nothing else to do with your time.

Under the Dome is the TV equivalent [of a ham sandwich], with all the fixings: a goofy, sometimes creepy, thriller from horror maestro Stephen King about a town trapped under a large invisible barrier.

If not top-tier TV terror fare, Under the Dome certainly is solid second-level stuff. And given the state of horror on television these days, that's a bloody good compliment. Even while acknowledging the occasional misstep, give Under the Dome credit for getting a lot of things right.

If it’s like most King adaptations, the payoff seldom equals the build-up, but in the opening salvo, King’s latest “Twilight Zone”-like premise clearly has the potential to get under one’s skin.

I think the story is a shambles and the concept is dumb.
