It's a traditional, timeless sitcom scheme that would have worked as well in the '50s as it does in the '90s. ... The show's strengths are its uncluttered concept and its cast.

Just rewatched it after 25 years. It's one of the best shows ever made. It has a unique lead and I really was too young back than to realize what an absolute beauty Fran Drescher was in her for..... with 29 ;) It's obviously how much fun the cast had filming the episodes. The battles between Niles and CC are outstanding. It's a 90s series and it shows some oldish style values and jokes. You should remember that if you watch it for the first time.
