The Marshal

At once true to action- show rules and properly parodic about the role of good guys in the late 20th century, The Marshal is an underrated pleasure.

That premise could make for a crisp and slick adventure hour; it did in the pilot. Already, though, Fahey's character is losing definition because of a string of unfocused scripts.

MacBride is the kind of intense, unpredictable, almost loopy kind of character that television audiences dote on. Think Bruce Willis in "Moonlighting."

Looks like a fun ride, a crime drama with more laughs than gun battles. [31 Jan 1995]

With no co-stars playing sidekicks, the pressure will be on Fahey to carry "The Marshal" alone. In the two preview episodes ABC provided, the low-key actor establishes an appealing balance of toughness and compassion. [31 Jan 1995]

Fahey too often seems cocky and callow. He's so sure of himself, and so superior to everyone else, you could find yourself identifying with the criminal. Luckily, Fahey's performance in the closing moments shows promise for a more restrained future. Let's hope the producers noticed the improvement. [31 Jan 1995]
