The Letter for the King will scratch an itch or three for fantasy mavens although The Witcher seems prime to scratch harder.

While The Letter for the King doesn’t feel like an adults’ show that kids can get away with watching, it’s also not a kids’ show that’s fun enough for adults to enjoy, with its bowdlerised fights and romance.

I don't understand why they give it a low rating: the medieval settings are amazing (believe me, historical films are hard to make) and the main story makes sense and is beautiful. They chose the landscapes well... I don't know, I think it's beautiful!

This is one of the best netflix originals, and you should definitly watch it. It is not a perfect show but it has a good cast, good story, poor pacing, and a good plot twist near the end. And unless you don't want your child to see two men kiss on the last episode. That's understandible. But you should still watch this and just skip that one part. I do think that it is good that netflix is starting to stand up to gay men, even though i am not found of them.

The Letter for the King won't offer many surprises to veteran fantasy fans, but they're likely to be won over by the charismatic cast and impressive production values. It's an ideal, unthreatening gateway to bigger, darker, fictional worlds.

The Letter For The King winds up with a few loose ends, ostensibly opening the door for a season two. If it does get a second season, hopefully the series will expand on its positive aspects—young appealing leads, gorgeous scenery, valuable life lessons—while paring down on the pointless plots and tired meandering. A series with a title this simple shouldn’t be so convoluted.

“The Letter for the King” is clearly aiming for the TV-PG audience who want their own “Game of Thrones” or even “Lord of the Rings,” and it's hobbled by that rating more than it should be. Any time there’s a threat of large danger, the outcome is predictable.

Despite showrunner Will Davies' best efforts to electrify the stakes with contemporary high-fantasy clichés ranging from sassy maidens to Shamanistic bloodlines, the story remains downright quaint and the climax laughably limp.

While not as ambitious as the Shadow & Bone series, this is a decent YA fantasy series that skews towards younger viewers. I did enjoy the morality of the knights-in-training and their camaraderie. Some significant plot points and relationships seem to occur off-screen.

This is really weird one. I think the main problem is that it tries to cater to multiple audiences and multiple purposes at the same time. And it just falls flat. The pacing seems to be really off. It feels like a slog at the time but also rushed. The main reason is that the TV show spends a lot of time on specific character - for instance how he overcomes great obstacles to get from point A to point B. And suddenly the rest of the cast just appears there as well and as a result something very important happens. Imagine Lord of the Rings but it only follows Aragorn. And he just meets the rest of the characters here and there without much explanation - then we have a final scene of Frodo destroying the ring - only to return back to Aragorn and his victory celebration. Also the whole thing is filled with cliche and dumb dialogues. Which is not necessarily that bad. It could have been fantastic PG lighthearted fairy tale. But the TV shows takes itself too seriously for that to be the case. It lacks humor - both cheap fart humor that would entertain children but it also lacks adult humor. Just a reference to some adult work of art or wink to political situation here and there would suffice. Overall if there is literally nothing else you can do while ironing or doing other chores I guess you could watch it? Otherwise it is not worth the bother.

I watched The letter for the King with my 9-year-old grandson. This film is rated PG. During the last episode, all of a sudden 2 male teenagers start kissing. My grandson asked my why they were kissing? I should have been warned about this before watching this series. We stopped watching, I have no idea how this ends nor do I care.
