The English movie is a true Western - sweeping, beautiful landscape, a reminder of Cinema Scope type of cinematography greatness! Great pacing - efficient - not a wasteful wandering minute. Always advancing. Powerful dialogue. Melancholy in moments like the West was. Majestic. Violent. Kind. Tender. Hard. Heartbreaking. Tense. Climactic. Unfair. Cool. Calm. Collected. Quiet. Loud.

I loved everything about this limited series, from the writing to the acting to the directing to the music. Set in the late 1800s, it tells universal human stories while also delving into the very specific horrors of how the Native Americans were treated, plus offers a broader reminder of how citizens from other countries also contributed to the settlement -- and oppression -- of the American west.

Etwas mehr Filmkorn hätte dem Genre gut gestanden. Dafür gibt es obendrein etwas Bonus-Material. Insgesamt sehr zu empfehlen. Nicht nur für Western-Muffel. Top -- You can't get much more western than that!Each episode of this mini-series a little gem. Classic western, a strong and emotionally charged story, great and well chosen cast with appropriate movie sets and costumes in gorgeous landscapes and wonderful music.Awesome. For me already one of the best series of **** Blu-ray has a classic and fitting aspect ratio, the bitrate should get the maximum out of it. There are almost no brightness or color gradients. German and English are available in excellent DTS-HD Master Audio. The disc is fully Germanized down to the last lettering. A little more film grain would have suited the genre. On top of that, there is some bonus material. Overall, highly recommended. Not only for western fans. Well done!

What a unique western - weirdly paced, full of fantastic and phantasmic characters that seem like there were conjured up in a fever-dream, and idiosyncratic like you have never seen, yet also grounded with excellent character arcs, settings, and a bit of loose history thrown in. Add a great cast. Highly recommended.

Just couldn't get into this Eli Whipp, a Pawnee scout, comes off as a self hating Native. Emily Blunt's character is an inexplicable archery champion fresh off a stagecoach. The show just requires too much suspension of disbelief and actual history to Garner interest. A point for the cinematography in UHD though.

An Englishwoman arrives in the West in 1890 seeking revenge on the man responsible her son’s death and strikes up an unlikely partnership with a member of the Pawnee Nation. The English is a little too convoluted at times, but the superb central performances Chaske Spencer from Emily Blunt and stunning location shooting ensure it makes for a compelling watch.

Slow Pacing, constant anxiety string music playing, writing so clever you find yourself hating every second of the drawn out exchanges that infuriates the captive audience. Cling to anticipation and frustration instead of hearing a story.

Fantastic slow-building old-school western with great characters, beautiful visuals, and a striking score. The story is complex and confusion over character backstory and motivation is complicated by shifts between present and 15 years earlier, nonetheless, its refreshing to have a period piece that makes you think and listen carefully to each line and which is able to criticise the politics of the past without shoe-horning in present-day agendas.

Stopped watching after the second episode when Emily Blunt shoots an Indian with an arrow from 7000 miles away even though she'd just stepped off the stagecoach. ( Look, she may have been an Archery champion in England but I doubt it. ) Also, she shot the cutest little sleeping piglet I've EVER seen, she's a complete monster! I must also mention how great the cinematography is in full UHD, shame about everything else - 3 stars

first off i need to give a tremendous shoutout to emily blunt and chaske spencer. the two of them together gave a phenomenal performance with their on screen chemistry. everything about this miniseries is unbelievably amazing. to have a western that is not completely false to the history surrounding native americans is already a major accomplishment. if you're a fan of good television and amazing acting this show is for you! it will not disappoint.

The English brings you in with its cinematography and promising cast, but fails to really take off.

to think the english is the first project emily blunt got really credited as an executive producer and its getting rave reviews makes me even prouder. she has been proving for so long how multifaceted she is, and i truly believe she delivered the performance of her CAREER. she deserves all the awards for this brilliant show!

The visuals as well as Emily’s performance are definitely Emmy Award worthy. One of the best shows I’ve watched in the last few years.

binge watched the whole show as soon as it dropped and let me tell you: it’s the most beautiful thing i have ever seen. the visuals are incredible, every shot could be a painting and the chemistry between emily & chaske made me fall in love with these two characters and their story that was truly written in the stars. to think this is the first project emily blunt got really credited as an executive producer and its getting rave reviews makes me even prouder. she's such a powerhouse in this show and she has been proving for so long how multifaceted she is. i truly truly believe this is THE performance of her career, and i hope she gets recognized by it for every possible award show next year. what a masterpiece. what a way to close 2022. what a gift hugo blick, emily blunt, chaske spencer and every person involved in this beautiful project gave us. it actually made me SOB when i finished. ️

The title refers to the name that the Native Americans gave to settlers, in this case Emily Blunt's fancy Brit. She's come out West to avenge a murder and ends up travelling with an ex-cavalry scout of the Pawnee Nation. After some violent setbacks they set out across the country. While there are some interesting visuals, the incredibly tedious pacing condemns this series from the offset. I could only dredge thru 2 eps before giving up. It may develop into something more compelling, but there's too much out there that doesn't require patience to enjoy it. BTW, I couldn't find any historical research that The English was actually a phrase that was used
