The American Experiment is a surprisingly balanced birthday celebration of enduring but messy and imperfect liberal democracy.

By the end of episode two you can feel that The American Experiment is doing you mental and moral good.

It is punchy, spiky but cerebral few hours which recognises that the experiment is evolving and there is more work to do.

Overall, “American Experiment” is a cautiously celebratory series. It makes the case that worrying about losing American democracy as much as we do these days is not only patriotic, but has been a tradition from the get-go.

Painting an impressively thorough portrait of the country’s founding and the men behind it. .... This might please those who watch history docs for fun, and U.S. history teachers looking for an easy lesson; it’s unlikely to attract, much less enthrall, those who fall into neither camp.

STREAM IT, but only if you haven’t seen The American Revolution. On its own, The American Experiment would be a good primer on the American Revolution and how the principles that the U.S. was built on 250 years ago are always being tested. But compared to some recent docuseries about the revolution, it just doesn’t go deep enough.
