When it’s all said and done, “S.W.A.T. Exiles” doesn’t reinvent the wheel for its genre, or even from the previous series. But Moore is commanding and earnest as he steps back into Hondo’s shoes.

Though S.W.A.T. Exiles has a lot to prove when it comes to building its own brand and being its own series, it doesn't feel like the cast of the new series will have any problems making the series their own.

There’s not enough new here to make “S.W.A.T.: Exiles” feel meaningfully different from “S.W.A.T.,” but just enough has changed to make us miss the faces we’d grown to know and care about during the previous show’s near-decade run.

S.W.A.T. Exiles feels like more of the same stuff that we saw on the original CBS series for eight seasons, just with more generic characters under Hondo’s command.
