Season 1 and 2 are pretty good if you liked the JJ Abrams films. It goes downhill fast from there and overall I don't think this show is worth watching. Season 3 and onwards become slow paced identity politics slog fests. Nothing interesting happens and it's incredibly similar to watching season 3 of the Orville. There's also a lot of arguments to be made that this isn't a Star Trek shows, with how it has have multi-part episodes and doesn't focus on any sort of intelligent thought provoking plots. On top of that it's one of those shows that would rather tell you what to think rather than present an argument and let you come to your own conclusions, something the original, TNG, Voyager, DSP and even enterprise did. One of the things that I realised during season 4 was how little character development Burnham actually had in 4 seasons of the show. She started off as the smartest, strongest character who made a mistake and by the 4th season, all that's really happened is that everyone else has realised that she's the smartest, strongest character who needs to be forgiven for making mistakes. That's it. Even her love angle is just this in disguise.

Star Trek: Discovery isn’t a series. It’s an emotional support group that accidentally found a starship. From the very first episode, it made one thing clear: exploration is optional, logic is suspicious, and crying in corridors is mandatory. Starfleet officers no longer solve problems, they process them. Preferably in whispered monologues about trauma, identity, and how very, very special they all **** biggest crime is Michael Burnham. A character written as the smartest, bravest, most morally correct being in every room, every timeline, every universe. She doesn’t grow. She doesn’t learn. The universe simply rearranges itself to confirm her greatness. Even Spock had doubts. Burnham has lighting cues. The show replaces ensemble storytelling with messianic storytelling. Everyone else exists to admire, affirm, or emotionally orbit the lead. It’s less Star Trek and more The Burnham Gospel According to Kurtzman. Then there’s the tone. Grim. Earnest. Self important. Star Trek used to ask big questions with elegance and restraint. Discovery screams its answers at you while swelling the soundtrack, just in case you missed how meaningful this moment is supposed to be.Visually? Spectacular. Ships look great while doing absolutely nothing interesting. Action without clarity, stakes without logic, chaos mistaken for depth. It’s like watching fireworks inside a philosophy lecture that’s already lost the plot. And yes, the wokism. Not because inclusion is bad. Star Trek was always inclusive. But Discovery doesn’t integrate ideas, it parades them. Representation becomes performance. Identity becomes shielded from critique. Characters aren’t written to be human first, but symbolic first, and that’s how you end up with cardboard saints instead of people.Classic Trek trusted the audience to handle complexity. Discovery doesn’t trust you to think, only to feel, applaud, and move on. Final assessment:A show that confuses noise for progress, emotion for depth, and activism for storytelling.I skipped out halfway through. No regrets. Warp core ejected

It's clear that this was made only to upset Star Trek fans and to destroy a beloved franchise.

After watching two seasons and three episodes of the third season, I asked myself: why am I doing this to myself? It's awful! And stupid.

Hey it's the story of Spock's sister. Called Michael. Kirk's butcher's nephew called Cindy wasn't available :x And we pimped the Klingons for no reason... That's all they had. It lasts a couple of episodes then it's gone and forgotten. The rest is complete cr@p, modern nonsensical scripts written on the fly with no correlation to previous episodes nor Star Trek. By far the worst Star Trek material. Past and surely future

Despite receiving criticism for straying from the classic tone of the franchise, Star Trek: Discovery has managed to achieve something few series can: reinventing itself season after season without losing its essence. Instead of clinging to nostalgia, it boldly pushes forward — in both time and narrative — with a courageous focus on action, suspense, and a more war-driven atmosphere than other Trek entries. And for me, it really **** of its strengths lies in its pacing. Discovery doesn’t dawdle. It gets straight to the point. Storylines kick off quickly, there's tension, movement, and a constant sense of urgency that feels more like Picard than Voyager or Deep Space Nine. Everything happens on the edge — characters don’t hold back, they take risks, they hesitate, they mess up… and that makes them real.Sure, there are episodes that get carried away and moments where some secondary characters feel underdeveloped. But when the show hits its stride, it really hits hard. The visuals are stunning, the sound design is sharp, and there are scenes that—on a good screen—completely pull you in.Michael Burnham, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, is the soul of the series. She's grown a lot since the beginning. At first, she was hard to connect with, but over time she’s become someone relatable: contradictory, vulnerable at times, but always driven. She’s not flawless — and that’s exactly why she **** in all, Discovery has been, for me, one of the most compelling entries in the modern Star Trek universe. I get why purists might be put off, but that’s precisely what gives it value: it dares. Instead of repeating formulas, it explores. And in the end, that’s what Star Trek has always been — an invitation to go beyond.

An absolute disgrace to call this Star Trek! I heard lots of bad about it but decided to watch it to give it the benefit of the doubt. But the characters are badly developed, the show tries too hard to out due the greatness of past star trek crews. It completely destroys nearly all past developed Trek cannon up to this point. Its a shame they trashed out this series so badly cause the graphics and visuals are awesome. Just cant get past how absolutely trashy the story and characters are. The only good charecters moved into Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Which so far as the time of this review has actually been pretty good

Naja, discovery ;die entdecken mal wieder Drama und Gewalt. Allgemein wenig spannend. Inhaltlich falsch. Nicht logisch. Schon ekelhaft was in euren Kranken Köpfen so vorgeht.

A Waste of Potential. Star Trek: Discovery is a visually stunning series that fails to capture the essence of its predecessors. The show leans heavily on expensive CGI, but the characters are unlovable and lack the professionalism that defined earlier Star Trek series. The captain, Michael Burnham, is depicted as a superhero who single-handedly solves every problem, which undermines the concept of a cohesive, competent crew. Emotional fragility and excessive political correctness further detract from the show's appeal. If you're a fan of the classic Star Trek ethos of professionalism and teamwork, you'll be sorely disappointed. Save your time and watch TNG, DS9, Voyager, or even Enterprise instead.

This isn't really a Star Trek. It's a ham fistedly woke drama that manages to spoil what would be interesting world building and storytelling by constantly jamming its messaging down the viewer's throat. Star Trek has always been wonderfully progressive and while I agree with the writer's obviously progressive values, espousing those values seems to matter SO MUCH MORE to the showrunners than viewer engagement or creating believable situations. Every trained officer in the show is emotionally fragile, always battling some mental health crisis, and in constant need of validation, advice, and accommodation. It's episode after episode of what feels like tween drama with Starfleet uniforms slapped on top of it. The actors and actresses playing a few lead characters like Michael and Saru do a very admirable job making the best of the writing. Michelle Yeoh even makes the show watchable from time to time, but there's only so much any of them can do to salvage a blunt, woke propaganda piece with little to no understand of nuance. I really want to love and support Star Trek, but this is really embarrassing.

OK….grab a frosty beverage and some popcorn. This is gonna take a minute.First off, I have been a fan of Star Trek since the first episode of the original series. I have seen every episode of every series and all of the movies. The last Star Trek on my list was Discovery, and, as I quickly realized, for good reason. Star Trek: Discovery, in my opinion, merely a core agenda, wrapped in virtue signaling, with ooey-gooey inner layer of emotional dysfunction, all wrapped in a thin veneer of a Star Trek series. This is not Star Trek as we have all come to understand it, or even close to what it has been in al its previous iterations. Why would I think that, you might wonder....Here goes: 1) Tech… A. The series is allegedly set in the time period after Enterprise NX-01, and with Enterprise NCC-1701 just being completed. Yet there is this thing called a “spore drive” that allows Discovery to jump to virtually any place in the galaxy in less than a second. Moreover, the new Enterprise is not equipped with this advanced drive. Further, even starships 900 years in the future don’t have it. I ain’t buying it. A near-instantaneous drive system would have been de rigueur for EVERY Starfleet ship in the fleet. B. Shields.... One might think that in 900 years, shield technology might have advanced to the point that they would be virtually impenetrable. But, alas, no. Starships still have issues with shields failing. Even with The Burn and its accompanying scarcity of dilithium, the power output of warp cores seems to have stangnated. C. Given that when the spore drive is activated, the entire bloody ship spins, those inertial dampers must be some MOTHERFU****s, lest crew be squashed. D. The entire ship seems to be gigantonormous. Even the shuttle bay seems to be the size of a smallish starbase. 2) Characters.... Every single one of the main characters seems to be in serious need of regular and intense psychotherapy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many dysfunctional individuals....ever. The Michelle Yeoh character and Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike are the only ones that display anything like consistency. Even Spock was rendered as a slave to his emotional deformities....gimme a break. Rather than develop the characters as the consummate professionals that Starfleet officers are, we are presented with indecisive, whiny emotional cripples. 3) Writing....Inconsistent, confusing, self-absorbed, and above all, dedicated to spreading an agenda that very few, if any, real Trekkers would even think of subscribing to. Admittedly, there were flashes of real skill in certain episodes, but they were overshadowed by the writers’ apparent obsession with picking at every tiny detail of a character’s emotional health rather than be consistent with the plot line. Example.... Computer: Hull breach imminent! Time to breach, 4 seconds. Writer: Hot dog! That gives me time to write 25 lines of meaningless **** see where I’m going with that. Unfortunately, it happens over and over and over again. 4) Effects By and large, the CGI effects were visually stunning. Unfortunately, the effects people opted for cheesy natural-gas (or propane) flame bursts on the bridge and a gazillion standard sparkly squibs that serve no purpose other than to irritate. That pretty much does it, as far as I’m concerned. The whole series is one giant, directionless mess, with the possible exceptions of the episodes directed by Jonathan Frakes. Those were pretty tight and stayed on point. One last word to the show-runners: I really don’t mind social and political commentary in the show. It’s part and parcel of what Star Trek is. But please.....PLEASE get your writers to not be so ham-fisted with it. It’s one thing to be intelligently subtle about your commentary. It is QUITE another for a viewer to be unceasingly slapped in the face with the cold, dead fish of your political and social agenda. Figure out how to find a middle ground.

So many scenes dark. Never feels like they on a spaceship, feels more like a nightclub. This was the magic of Next Gen, it felt real. Stories are about people dealing with personal issues. The show is targeting a woke LGBT lefty with mental illness.

I had such high hopes, a great cast, great production values, but the grand story arcs and constant cliff hangers are not what star trek is about. I want an episodic show, with character development front and centre. The stakes are always too high in discovery, they could learn something from Becky Chambers, I want cozy sci-fi again.

Just awful. No character development, ever. Atrocious writing and overly-dramatic acting. You'd think with 350 extra years of development, human beings would've overcome the desire to constantly virtue-signal. Woke to the point of absolutely ruining the show and making it cringe and uncomfortable for the audience. Characters suffer from unexplainable fragility and constant insecurity which doesn’t seem like something typical of successful people. Main character is never allowed to grow into a comfortable leader because her role seems to be to establish her dominance by picking pointless fights with crew, every episode. Lots of “you can’t go!” “But I have to be there for you!” This is stupid and paints the characters as cowards of low self-esteem. Lots of storylines where women are the victim of an overly assertive male-power dynamic. So the show is not fun to watch at all. At best, it is unrealistic and the poorest-acted of any Star Trek show on TV.

Every 3rd episode is leftist virtue signaling garbage and no it's not the black female lead that's the issue. Michel is a perfectly fine character and the lead actress does a fine job, however, focusing on left wing garbage side plots whether it's normalizing men kissing (on the job, in the workplace, at every opportunity), men having children, to idolizing trans transitioning as the most beautiful expression of "ones self", while blaming dilithium for ending the universe as a blatant dig at todays carbon based fuels, and on to the subtle but prevalent exclusion of white males from the series, is distracting from the non-political sci-fi plots we came to love about Trek and makes this series nearly unwatchable.

Discovery is trash. But all of you calling star trek woke are absolutely insane. Star trek has from day one been about diversity. Its very core and essence is diversity, I’ll admit discovery is ham handed but like the entire concept of the show is diversity. yt people are truly a misery. an absolute misery.

I have been a diehard ST fan for over 50 years. I have loved all the iterations for the most part until Discovery. I keep falling asleep during it. The writing is soooo bad. The acting is so overdramatized. I do like the Seru character but none of the others. I have never seen so many characters burst into tears in a science fiction series. I mean, damn, “Man up!” but that would probably be way too much of a stretch. Most of the character are written to be emotionally unstable and the self doubt is so prevalent it is offensive. I want to believe in this crew but sadly, I can’t if they can’t. And giving the captain braids, really? You know those gonna get ripped off her head. If I had to fight her, I’d be yanking on them with one hand and punching her in the face with the other. Just sayin’. I supposed it kept getting renewed , not for fan support or ratings but for some other AGENDA. After this painful season I hope that they put all that money into SNW. I’m not sure if Section 31 will work. Those were my least favorite episodes on DS9. But Michelle Yeoh is awesome so maybe it will work. We can only hope. Hollywood makes many, really stupid mistakes.

Content way too forced. Bad scripting, actors over acting. Star trek was about scientific discovery and creating dreams and bringing the impossible to the screen. If we want romance and fighting and feminism there are abundance of better choices.

BRAVO!! I love the Discovery seasons! It’s the sole reason I signed up for Paramount! It has continued imagining time, space, planets and new species. It’s amazing to consider a Federation of planets 950+ years into the future and continued scientific space exploration. I loved getting the more than plausible backstory on Spock! The Klingons started out a bit scary (didn’t like the change). I loved the original version of the Klingon Empire & its formidable warrior clans, but the show mended its error. I wish there were MORE SEASONS on the horizon. As an African American who fell in love with special effects as a child watching The Blob and who has watched everything Star Trek, I am ecstatic to see that imagined futuristic worlds and leaders include folks that look like me! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SHOW. Congrats to the producers, directors, writers and actors/actresses, and entire cast and crew and all involved. PS: The show with Stacy Abram’s was hilarious—everybody’s a FAN! I was so (not in a bad way) jealous! She probably got so much of a kick at projecting herself as Earths President in the far flung future. Great fun! The show has expanded my ability to share the planet and my immediate space with those who do not look like me or who have different cultures from my own. In my mind, its Mission is Accomplished! Discovery went boldly into the future and made a significant impact and contribution to humanity and other species existence. BRAVO DISCOVERY! BRAVO!!

Get woke and go broke is a concept that Hollywood still hasn't figured out. South's park's into the panderverse's theme, make her a woman, make her gay and make her lame fits quite well. You can tell the show runners are all male homosexuals. The women are ugly and can't act and key male characters are homosexual. Stupid Marxist ideology is the most important feature. The writers have never read any science fiction as is clear from the pathetic plot lines. The original Star Trek used Hugo award winning authors who gave us episodes like "The City on The Edge of Forever". In this show we have episodes where women rule over weak pathetic men who constantly have emotional break downs. The episodes are often solved by last minute tech. MacGuffins that have no logical consistency. I found myself rooting for the Klingons. They have more agency than the ****-federation. It's hard to believe this is going on a 5 season run. I only watch when I need to take a nap.

EDIT: I get the scores now. Season 2 is terrible. It's amazing how hellbent on destroying everything built up in seasons 1 it is, ripe with overacting, fake drama and excessively dumb writing. SEASONS 1 review: I somehow missed this when it ran on TV and discovered it when I was waiting for Strange New World episodes. It is hands down the best Star Trek I have ever watched. The first season contains more story development, more character growth and more new ideas than any of the prior series and movies. The story development is breathtaking, with multiple points that would have painstakingly filled an entire season for other series logically and consistently flowing into each other without ever feeling overblown. I've been bingeing it uncontrollably and would strongly suggest that course of action to anyone in similar shoes. The writing, direction and acting are impeccable, and the visuals an score are flawless. I am afraid to start watching further seasons given that it's probably impossible to keep up this level of quality (and the average review scores I see here)

So far the first and best of all the post-2017 Trek shows. An excellent balance of story, characters, and high concept sci-fi. This series eschews the easy nostalgia-bait of other current trek offerings for real story.

I'll be honest, the show is not terrible by today's standards but there's nothing great about it either. If you replaced the a few of the species and the ships you would never be able to guess it's Star Trek. It's very slow and very dramatic and the writing is not great. The visuals are amazing but there's nothing to keep you going. I lasted 2 seasons and they're never bad, just the definition of meh TV. Watch any of the previous Star Trek series if you're a fan of the franchise.

Best Star Trek series so far. Modern way of story telling, good CGI, well coordinated dialogues between serious and not exaggerated jokes, typical of star trek it also tackles current political and social issues. Until now I only watched Season 1 and 2 and hope to see 3 and 4 soon. I already liked TGN, Voyager and now Discovery.
