With its TV-G rating, Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol is great, kid-friendly holiday entertainment. While it’s likely not going to enter the pantheon of annual holiday re-watches, it’s the ideal show for the under-10 crowd.

This new story – a collection of vignettes, really – strays from the initial concept of elves who work to prepare the way for Santa, instead focusing more on the characters and their lives when not on the clock, which is not as magical or entertaining.

Disney hired the D-team of shorts-writers to prod this lesser-known beloved franchise of Christmas specials along for another holiday season. Sadly the whole office-humor-vacation-retreat leans far too hard towards making elves just like self-centered, tiresome or try-hard coworkers and fails to bring back the magic of earnest helpers delivering Christmas joy. While trying to "grow up" P&L to make it appealing to their former audiences, with the introduction of elves slobbering over love interests, they completely missed the point of a Christmas short. We want to relive childhood innocent magic with our own children. This ain't it.
