Going deep allows Armisen and Brownstein to really dig in--the duo deserve Emmy attention, IMHO--and enhances, not diminishes, Portlandia's winningly weird shine. [9 Jan 2015, p.74]

Season 7 is the next-to-last one of Portlandia, but based on its spry start, the show hasn't yet worn out its welcome.

Often Ms. Brownstein, wide-eyed and sincere, gets the best of Mr. Armisen, who's been exaggerating characters for so long on "Saturday Night Live" that it's tough for him to capture the understatement of these caricatures.

I didn't start watching this show till around 2015 and found it to be a comedic gem. The quirky, sometimes esoteric personalities of Oregon's largest city are played to large effect by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. The frequent guest star appearances by the likes of Kyle MacLachian, Jeff Goldblum, Kumail Nanjiani, Chole Sevigny and many others, adds to the list of oddball but fun characters. Through the seasons, Armisen and Brownstein remind us that the best laughter is when we all laugh at ourselves, regardless of our differences in a shared community.

It has a few misses, but overall it’s brilliant and hilarious throughout, with entertaining characters and sketches.
