When it comes to nature documentaries Planet Earth is once again proof that nobody does it better than the BBC. Many years in the making the series takes in locations as diverse as the jungles of South America to the Antarctic. Every episode is beautifully shot and narrated by the legendary David Attenborough providing truly fascinating insights into the weird and wonderful creatures that inhabit every part of Planet Earth.

This is nothing short of amazing. I'm sitting in my room in front of my Computer and literally watching the whole world. I watched many Nature documentaries. But none of those documentaries came anywhere near this. The art work is awesome. The music and David Attenborough's narration transported me hypnotically to all those places they showed on this spectacular show. I loved how each episode began and ended. This is awesome and I want to thank BBC for giving us such a wonderful show. Nothing short of amazing.

An amazing work by the BBC and Discovery Channel. I recommend anyone to get this on Blue-ray and be awed by the visuals and the sheer beauty this planet has to offer.

Planet Earth is an amazing documentary that forces you to look at the world in a completely new light. The narration and cinematography are just great.

Generally pretty good and what is to be expected of the BBC Natural History Team. However, I do have a couple issues with it. Firstly, it really doesn't emphasise enough how fragile the environment is and how much impact humanity causes. I know this is much improved in later editions, but this is my first time watching the first Planet Earth and, as a professional conservationist myself, it disappoints me that it paints such an unrepresentative picture as to the state of nature. Secondly, it gets a bit repetitive at times with certain animals given an outsized focus. This is limited by the technology of the time I understand, but none-the-less it ages this series more than its peers. However, I still believe Sir David, BBC Natural History, and these documentaries are a vital way to further the goals of ecology and conservation and thus, for that reason, it still gets a very, very good score. I am going to rewatch Planet Earth II and then watch III for the first time next so I shall see how they stack up versus this. I expect technological improvements and increased budgets will enable this though so I am looking forward to it.

The infamous David Attenborough shows us the never before seen parts of our beloved world -- from a very neutral point of view. It’s an amazing journey with many beautifully directed scenes of powerful themes. Some repetition of old and already shown footage is a fact, but it really succeeds as a fun and surprisingly big popcorn event! Personal rating: 80/100 Critical rating: 88/100
