Great and iconic The only downside is the relationship between Gwen and Arthur. What i liked the most which no one talks abaut is The Actor who played Uther Pendragon , the actor and his motive are understandable after growing up Overall Great, but has downsides like relationships and the CGI.

An easy to watch show that flows and has more than a few likable characters. You don't get that in almost any show. The reason for the 9/10 is for the horrible casting choice for Maid Marian. Even for a fantasy TV show, it's unbelievably unrealistic to think that MULTIPLE... not one or two... knights would be attracted to her. It's not because she's black/indian, but because she's not feminine and has bad features. She has a slumped trolls nose, big forehead, no facial harmony, and beaty eyes. Plus she has markings all over her face. Her eyebrows are short as well. When you are selling a beautiful maiden to the viewers, they have to have at least 1 good facial feature to lock onto. She has literally none.

I love this show, unapologetically I love it through and through. I think it’s acted well, I think it’s hilarious, I think the stories are fun, and the music is pretty great too. However, any special effects utilized are generally quite poor, some filler episodes are lack-luster, and the plot often relies on coincidence. However, this unique spin on the Arthurian legends is such a refreshing reboot. Often times Arthurian tales in movies fall somewhere between Shakespearean and utterly awful. This manages to depict magic users as fourth-class citizens that are discriminated against time and time again like an Arthurian Gestapo Laws. Magic Users lack of autonomy often leads a majority of them to feel over zealous and vie for power over others, which is such a strong motivating factor. Merlin is unique because he one of the very few magic users who live under the thumb of Uther’s Regime, but through sheer love of nation and belief decides the most valuable work is through influence and not power. It’s quite rhapsodic in it’s approach and subtle, and if it weren’t cancelled it would have expanded these themes evermore. I would have love to see how King Arthur repeals the laws against magic usage, and how the people of Camelot would still treat magic users as second-class citizens like racial-segregation in the American South. However, given the light-hearted nature of the show it may not have gotten that deep. Regardless, the show is great for adults and kids alike, and worth a watch.

Takes a lot of liberties with the original material: The names are the same as in the legend and that's about it. _ Merlin is young. _ Arthur is an ass and lives with Uther. _ It appears Morgana isn't his sister and doesn't despise him with a white-hot hatred. _ His mother, Igrene, is said to be dead. That's all upside-down. There are many other problems. The armors are the wrong kind for the era. (Something most viewers will excuse.) The writing isn't very good either. e.g. In the second episode, during a feast, Arthur and Merlin speak about "buying a drink" like if they were in a common bar. There is a lot of nonsense and stuff that doesn't make sense if you care to think even one second about it. It's also touched by "diverse" nonsense. Some character's skin complexion do not fit the time. That'd be a minor issue if there were no ridiculous situations because of it. e.g. An impostor for the white child of two nobles with white skin is colored ... and nobody sees through it. Did I say the writing wasn't very good? Sorry, I meant bread-damaged. Oh, and of course you have situations where a small woman with matchstick arms is able to stun a tall heavy man with a single ridiculous "punch". That aside, it may be entertaining as long as you don't care about any of the above.

This version of King Arthur follows the young warlock Merlin and his plight to ensure Prince Arthur becomes King of Camelot. This show is better than it deserved to be due to the story that was very well written and drives Merlin to be a surprise show that keeps improving each season. This is despite a very low budget that led to very bad CG props, and action sequences. The casting was good all the actors fit who they should have been, none will win best actor for any of these performances, but it was good enough for this type of TV show. If you stay with it beyond the first few episodes you will be pleasantly surprised.

Apparently, this show was supposed to be in DTS but Nut flicks decided to only provide stereo. (Canada) The first two seasons accomplished some excellant story telling with a modest budget. However, the last 3 seasons suffered greatly from writing shortcomings. The endless MORGANA MORGANA MORGANA storylines became soooo boring, repetitive and just plain insulting to the audiences intelligence. The number of times that they had the opportunity to be done with this two dimensional character and inexplicably failed to do so was a continuous source of anger for those of us hungry for the storyline to get out of the endless Morgana story arc. She was not even a convincing villain, the extent of her acting range was to give exaggerated stink eyes to the camera not to mention the banal evil grins and glares .. oh! Pah leese! Did the actress win some kind of lawsuit that obliged the series to keep her as the villain? There were so many bad guys that would have made a much more entertaining and worthy villain than a spoiled brat who had to hide her magic and now thinks that she is owed everything. YAAAAWN! Three seasons of a brat taking hissy fits was not worth the ending. It is a true pity because the writing in the first two seasons held so much promise.

Good show all in all, except for the end. If you want to keep it in good memory I advise not to watch the last season. Acting: Amazingly good. You also see a lot of actors who later played in Game of Thrones. But there are some blatant exceptions, who really cant act. They are rare, but funnily they all have something in common: They have been cast because of their skin color, not because of their talent. Story: Amazing again. It looks childish at the beginning, but gets really good and interesting. You just want to see the end. Yet the end was completely messed up. Tragic, really. Characters: All well written and loveable, except the already mentioned exceptions. The relationship between Merlin and Arthur is just hilarious and even drives you some tears into your eyes from time to time. Authenticity: Bad. Really bad. You can forgive that Camelot looks like an Utopia, since its portrayed like that in the original story too, but theres a lot of issues with weapons, armor, everyday life, and of course people with dark skin color, who of course didnt exist in that time and age in Britain. Even normal people on the streets are portrayed as PoC. It always breaks immersion, even more so than seeing antennas on the roof of the Camelot citadel or plastic foam behind shields... If you like Arthurs legend, then you have to watch this. But you have to bring some tolerance due to authenticity issues and the bad ending. Again, I would advise not to watch the last season. Season 5 also shows some logic problems and throws away things that were established in the other seasons.
