A particularly taut and well-structured pilot episode lays out McCord’s essential struggles, while Leoni delivers a calm, cool and wry performance.

Madam Secretary starts off solidly, with an engaging performance by Téa Leoni as the secretary of state.

The episodes are creative and exciting, I love the characters and how they progress, and I especially enjoy how the writers don't shy away from any controversial topics in their show.

Just watching this on Netflix. This is a great series, easily on par with "The West Wing". Now, Tea Leoni has always been my favorite actress, but of course she's 'just' the lead - the writing on this show is impeccable, and I am happy to say it's worth watching.

Leoni has great potential here, but the character development and "I'm already hooked" magic (a la The Good Wife) aren't quite there yet. [19/26 Sep 2014, p.126]

Even with the mystery in the White House, there's a lot to like about Madam Secretary beyond Leoni's trademark husky voice and dry delivery.

Leoni’s uber-competent character--she’s brilliant, plugged-in, fluent in every language!--could easily be annoying in the hands of another actress. But Leoni gives Elizabeth McCord a savvy, down-to-earth quality that makes her easy to root for.

All the show has now is that potential, the raw talent, and a setting it doesn't know what to do with.

Madam Secretary is just really, really dull, as if someone tried to make a counterweight to Scandal with only the boring parts--plus one shamelessly ripped-off conspiracy theory.

As someone who is fond of history and politics, this show is one of the most accurate I’ve watched. Anything I fact checked during watching turned out to be true. There were some spots though I found myself wondering, “why at this point is everything falling into place when an episode ago this was something that was not going to happen”.. or the famous reoccurring theme of this show to have something serious to the plot happen and then something get in the way. I do feel towards this shows end the quality decrease was very much noticeable, because less people were watching, and so the writers had to wrap it up. I do feel this show should have gotten more seasons, it was a VERY abrupt end to a plot line that could have continued for two more seasons, maybe going upon Elizabeth’s new position into her second term or possibly leaving office. I do think the show leaned a-bit to the left in its politics, and I don’t think in the real world we will have seen an independent president in the modern day, but maybe that’s to put hope in America for one. The show did an excellent job at referencing prior events in history though, and to be frank, despite the shortcomings I listed, I feel it’s a very worthy watch- the characters are memorable and the plot(s) exciting, I just wish it wasn’t cut so short.

I really liked the first 4 Seasons, but then something changed. It began more and more drift into wokeness and the dramatic negotiations where exchanged for writers personal agendas and woke messages. I just dont like being feed constantly but virtue signaling. Season 6 was complete garbage fest and had nothing to do with the base idea of these series. Really to bad would earn a higher score if it stayed like it was meant to be. what a shame.

Show was ok for first few seasons. I'm halfway through S6 and wow. I almost can't help but laugh. It doesn't even try to hide the liberal propaganda and ideologically driven writing. The end of S6E5 with it's praise of the media was sheer cringe. May as well have just made a "what if" mockumentary of Hildabeast in Office.

Absolutely terrible. The writers are portraying their own political agenda through the whole show. The theme is poorly pieced together and lies continuously about real politics. Obama built the detention centers and they blame it on Republicans. If your going to be political at least be honest. My mother worked at the detention center that they are blaming Republicans for during the Obama Administration. I hate Netflix what a waste of time
