Hot woke garbage. Terrible. Hollywood hates anything associated with masculinity.

It’s a series about the Green Lanterns, but they don't use the rings, and it seems like everyone has a burning hatred for Hal Jordan, which makes no sense. The show should be called *Everybody Hates Hal Jordan*. The writing is incredibly weak; it feels like the people who wrote the episodes never bothered to read the comics, they preferred to make a "woke" series instead. You know what my biggest fear is? The next episode.

It’s entertaining enough and the two leads have some chemistry, but it takes itself all too seriously and some plot twists seem a bit inconceivable.

Me and my wife really enjoy the show so far. The only thing I have a problem with, and I hope the writers see this, the swearing is ridiculous. I understand its an adult show but really?? The f' bombs are super abundant and very unnatural. It seems as if they are written in there to give it a mature rating. I watched a rated R gangster movie yesterday and it had less cussing. And what's so crazy is if you left the f' bombs out you open the show to more audience and could leave off the mature rating.

Boring, uninspiring, and disrespectful. Please, no more James Gunn DC, thank you.

Un serie muy distinta a lo esperado de una serie de super heroes. Cuando esperas que sea el día del episodio, sabes que estas enganchado.

Laughably Poor Narrative Choices and Writing:
I vehemently hate this show for it's undeniable wasted potential and the absolute massacre they've done to the character of Hal Jordan. We could have had an amazing parralax and spectre that I was hoping would be perfectly set up with this show. Instead, now we have a show that seemingly hates / disrespects the source material it is based off of to such an extent audiences have to settle for some terribly paced unwatchable wannabe true detective slop. Every character in the show is a bad person. Not a single character that is likeable or interesting other than john stewart. The parallax storyline and arc could have spanned multiple seasons or this show could've focused on john and we could get that later but after watching episode 6 of Lanterns and enduring the same mistakes by studios over and over again, I am completely checked out of James Gunn and co's criminally messy and disgusting handling of the dcu.

Refreshingly grounded and smart, the cast is perfectly selected and actually have the direction needed for a compelling drama. Sorry to the nerds who are pissed that it's not stupid non-stop **** this is a genuinely great/mature take on the material and I'm just so glad they're still willing to make something like this that's not catering to the mouth breathing general audience who just wants once liners and explosions. If one season is all we get, I'll be **** for the love of God please don't succumb to the review bombing crowd who just want Snyderverse level shlock...this is so much more valuable and will have legs that Snyderverse era material couldn't dream of.

HBO’s Lanterns is shaping up to be something genuinely special — not just another superhero show, but a character‑driven drama that understands its audience and respects their intelligence. Episode 1 sets the tone beautifully. It’s grounded, intimate, and refreshingly human. Instead of drowning viewers in lore or CGI spectacle, it eases you into this world through character drama that feels lived‑in and authentic. It primes you for the larger superhero universe without ever slipping into cheese or cliché. Episode 2 builds on those strengths with surprising confidence. We dig deeper into John’s past, and the writing handles social issues with a level of nuance that’s rare in the genre. It’s thoughtful without being preachy, empathetic without being political, and it adds real emotional weight to the story. Episode 3 is nothing short of a masterpiece — one of those episodes that makes you sit forward and realise you’re watching something that will be talked about for years. It takes the themes introduced earlier and elevates them into gripping, meaningful drama. It’s the kind of television that reminds you why long‑form storytelling matters. With five episodes out, the show isn’t finished, but the trajectory is undeniable. Lanterns isn’t just entertaining; it’s purposeful. It’s a superhero series that trusts its viewers, treats its characters with care, and has something to say without shouting. If it keeps this up, we’re witnessing the birth of one of HBO’s next great dramas.

Some of the show is okay but it feels like the writers have no clue who there even writing about.

So far so good. The most realistic filmmable green lantern universe ever. Not a cartoon anymore

Seems promising at first, with great actors, possibly Hal as Parallax, but turns out to be the brokest show ever. They just talk, there is practically no action whatsoever, no cgi, everybody is human, the aliens, the Guardians, Sinestro. Worse than the Arrowverse, at least there was a bit of action. Pathetic

So slow. I love Kyle Chandler but he overacts way too much in this. And Pierre is a nothing burger, I don't dislike him, I don't like him, he's just blah. Show is a bit of a mess and you can tell there were multiple writers on this because it just doesn't link up from one episode to the next.

This show is an egregiously hate-filled propaganda vessel. Truly worthless content that serves no other purposes than to spread very dark propaganda and hate to the viewers. Absolutely disgraceful.

This show is shamelessly stupid and uninspired. Plot and characterization are a result of childish writing. Laughable.

Here's how good this show is. It will make you believe that Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie was actually a masterpiece. One of the worst movies of all time is a 10 out of 10 compared to this absolute garbage. Are you afraid? If someone asks you to watch this trash show, you should be. You should be very afraid.

A potential billion dollar show turned to ash from the beginning. Garbage writers, producers, directors, actors will never work. DC unuverse deserves WAYYYYYY better stewards. Can't even make a good batman ffs

Yet another Hollywood deconstruction of heroism. Hal Jordan is shown to be a cynical, bumbling idiot whom despite having saved the planet hundreds of times, no one respects, not even local law enforcement, and in desperate need of being replaced by his better, more diverse successor. The scope of the story makes no sense. Instead of interplanetary conflict, we get a poorly done local detective story obviously trying to copy True Detective S01, but ending up like True Detective S04. Hal Jordan and John Stewart land in small town Nebraska and have to reckon with a local rancher obviously modeled after what a coastal pseudo-intellectual like Damon Lindelof thinks a red state voter is like. Scenes move slowly. Subtext is spelled out for an audience the producers know won't be paying attention. There are no exciting scenes and almost no special effects. No costumes, and aliens conveniently look like humans. Can't recommend against wasting your time on this strongly enough.

Woke. Nowadays everything made by hbo is woke. Till ep2 is classic boring woke: girlboss, black power, white privilege. But ep3 makes you leave the show: (spoilers ahead) In displaced order:- The Guardians interview John to make him a Green Lantern inside an abandoned shopping centre. - It turns out that John's father was supposed to be the real Lantern of the earth but to the question "Are you afraid?" has answered "Yes" - Hal (what a disrespect to probably the most charismatic, heroic and conflicted character of the entire DC universe) becomes Green Lantern, Stewart's father is hurt- The Guardians, to apologise, give a diamond to his wife - The wife tries to sell it but the police is investigating because a black can’t have a big diamond, I'm sure that if an unknown Norwegian went to place with a glitter as big as a melon NOBODY WOULD SUSPECT ANYTHING, OBVIOUSLY -The wife says that the husband answered "yes" because a black man in America constantly lives in fear -The Guardians then decide to give their son the same chance as his father and so it turns out that John has been trained to be a green lantern.

Up to episode three. Lanterns is a well written, fresh take on the characters. If you have no idea who GL is you might wonder why it took Warner so long to make this show - the reason is that the relationship between Hal and John has never been explored this well before. It's an eight from me, plus one extra point for making the most unlikely of superheroes the centre **** drama. Easily one of the shows of the year, I hope they stick the landing.

I am a comic fan but not too familiar with green lantern. With that said, I’m loving what im seeing so far. Loving each character and just want more.

As someone who grew up reading classic comic books in the 1960s and '70s—stories that provided a genuine sanctuary and taught timeless values during a difficult childhood—it is genuinely heartbreaking to watch what modern television has done to beloved characters. Instead of honoring the rich mythology and straightforward, inspiring heroism that made properties like Green Lantern timeless, Lanterns completely alienates longtime fans. Episode 3 is a prime example of everything wrong with contemporary adaptations: it discards classic lore in favor of heavy-handed, divisive social commentary and preachy messaging. Rather than delivering the cosmic spectacle and compelling sci-fi adventure fans actually want, the series chooses to rewrite foundational origins into a vehicle for modern political axes. If you cherish the integrity of the original comic runs and respect the classic mythos, save your time and skip this. It's an exhausting departure from what made these heroes great in the first place.

Episode 1. Meh, Entertaining through my dinner atleast.
-
Episode 2. Why would they do that, story makes no sense. Everyone is dumb and dont share vital information with eachother.
-
Episode 3. I've never seen so much race-baiting in my life. It's absolutely absurd.
Gets offered Green Lantern position. Fails. Tells the aliens even they dont see black people even though they just gave the chance to become a Green Lantern. Gives largest cut diamond on earth as compensation; think it's racial when the buyers gets skeptical that an elementary school teacher tries to sell the largest cut diamond on earth. Appearently stold it to PawnStars since they run out of money in a few years. Hal Jordan was chosen because he had white privilege of having less things to fear in life appearently, even though the Stewart family has the most calm and safe life than most people in America. John blames Hal for his father failing the first test of fear, soley because Hal was chosen... after!!. It's mindnumbingly stupid and activly antagonistic.

It started pretty strong with episode 1 and 2, but then with episode 3 it went into the usual territory and ruined everything. I dropped it and I'm done with whatever these producers and directors are doing next, you're not doing entertainment right

Meh. Had a strong start for me. But has the same issues that all of the shows of these Genres had for me. The plot moves at a snail pace. So much so that you easily realise there isn't a lot of plot in this thing.

Can I have Green Lanterns in my Lanterns show, please? Pretty please? Or Yellow Lanterns, Red Lanterns, Blue Lanterns? Any color is fine.
Not even Guy Gardner will be able to save this, if he ever shows up.
It doesn't feel like James Gunn is involved in it, where is he?

The Al Sharpton of superhero shows - an absolute scam that pushes a fake racist narrative along with gratuitous F-bombs and full frontal nudity. HBO shouldn't be allowed within 100 light years of anything comic book.

Full of clichés and bad copies of better stories, every element of this is truly terrible: writing, directing, and acting. There is occasionally some good photography, but overall this one is a real stinker! Do not waste a single minute watching this trash!

"Subverting Expectations" If you know ANYTHING about Green Lanterns and thr DC universe you are going to need a LOBOTOMY to enjoy this TV series. Just some of my gripes with the show so far: 1. The ring is only limited by your imagination. So far, 2 episodes in the only constructs shown are: a dollar bill, a bottle opener, a bubble and a bird. 2. Going by the comics the suit shouldn't be physical, it should be manifested by the ring. 3. Hal Jordan is literally the village idiot. He does not show any signs of actual intelligence, least of all, for an established superhero. 4. When there is a choice between showing something cool on screen and making it a gag/not show it all, they will choose the latter options as it appears the budget is non existent and/or to keep the show "grounded".
