Good Cop/Bad Cop

Leighton Meester & Luke Cook star as siblings who are also detective partners on the small town police force. She’s got a breezy comic style, while he creates a stiff, serious brother who’s equally amusing. Not only is their chemistry delightful, every member of the cast has a unique, slightly quirky personality that adds more fun. Each week presents a new case that they set about to solve with some clever work. The writing offers regular laughs, thanks to showrunner John Quaintance, who among other things was an Executive Producer for “Will & Grace.” This series is boyoued by its sincere silliness, while offering a few moments of heart to soften the humor. This is the type of show that stands out for its uniqueness and if it gets a second season, will develop the characters and their relationships to a memorable and entirely enjoyable hit. A true delight. Leighton Meester (who should be as big as Jennifer Aniston) and Luke Cook have fantastic sibling chemistry, and the rest of the cast, including Clancy Brown, is good to great. It reminds me of a "Blue Skies" show from USA from about 10-15 years ago -- a bit of grit, but not much, but excellent humor and a good dollop of heart. The shows episodes, which are basically small-town cop wacky procedurals, did have a throughline (e.g., a murder mystery involving a set of bones from 40 years ago) and uncovered family secrets, but now that will unfortunately never get developed. Still, I recommend watching it if you come across it on Netflix, Roku or whatever -- you'll laugh, you'll cry a bit, and you'll laugh again. A really fun show that I'll miss. Eight episodes was not enough.
