Dexter: Original Sin

The bright side here is that while Original Sin isn’t exactly breaking new ground, it does recall enough of the first show’s visceral pleasures without feeling too tired. Also, while the premiere didn’t feature enough of Patrick Dempsey and Sarah Michelle Gellar to get a good sense of their characters, it’ll be exciting to find out what they bring to the mix.

While we’re not convinced that Dexter: Original Sin will be as compelling as the early years of the original series, we’re hoping that the new cast develops their own chemistry instead of trying to imitate the dynamic of the original show’s cast.

Dexter: Original Sin gets off to a rough start, reminding us that there was little need for a prequel about Dexter Morgan – so much that’s in this premiere episode was already depicted or explained in the original series. There’s also a struggle to overcome the “Dexter Babies” vibe given off by the new actors.

One of the interesting things about Original Sin is that we already know a great deal about Dexter Morgan from the original series, including how his father Harry shaped his control over his “Dark Passenger” and how the murder of his mother shaped his personal demons. So seeing it all played out sometimes feels a bit like watching a community theater version of a play you know by heart. It also doesn’t help at all that several of the major players seem miscast or poorly directed at best.

Gibson lacks some of the charisma Hall brought to the original Dexter, and without that pull, it's sometimes hard to root for a guy who doesn't feel much of anything except for an obsession with blood. The arrival of a new, younger Dexter back on our screens shouldn't be this dull.

“Original Sin” doesn’t draw any new life from a piece of IP that’s now old enough to vote. It does, however, represent the profit-chasing retrospection that’s devouring culture from the inside out like a termite infestation. All that’s left is a hollow structure to be blown away by the next Miami storm.

I love it. I hope we get several seasons. I think they did a great job with the cast - it's like we get the "original" Dexter all over again but it's new and refreshing.

Dexter: Pecado Original es sin duda entretenida. Es muy difícil entrar a la serie sobre todo, cuando todos los actores son distintos. Siendo sinceros, lo único que aguantaba que no se hundiera este barco, era el carisma del actor de Dexter. Para mi es un bajón en comparación a la anterior temporada, siento que aporta muy poco en el lore de Dexter. Si bien explica algunas cosas que no se habían explicado en la serie original, estas o se podían suponer o las historias que cuenta no afectan para nada al canon original. Puedes ver sin problemas primero Dexter: Resurrección y volver luego a esta, que es lo que hice yo. Como siempre, siguen su camino propio y les dan igual las novelas de Lindsay. No hay mucho que decir, simplemente es una temporada palomitera para tener de fondo, sobre todo, si eres fan de Dexter.

Despite a solid supporting cast, Dexter: Original Sin falters at its center with a lead who fails to convey the character’s signature trauma. Where Michael C. Hall’s performance seethed with dread, this new take feels merely fixated rather than truly damaged. The result is a less compelling, less unsettling Dexter.

I WONDER IF DEXTER WILL GET CAUGHT THIS SEASON!! I wonder what happens to Patrick Dempsey and Sarah Michelle Gellar!!

Well. It doesn't really whet the appetite for more, even if SMG is there, it's just not enough on its **** say it's a bad series would be outrageous, but we know the back story well **** last attempt with Dexter's son was, to put it mildly, a cheek. I did watch it to the end, but afterwards I felt kind of **** original series (apart from the ending) was a brilliant show. But to somehow copy everything now, spice it up with intrusive songs and put it on the memberberries... Let's see if that works. I think the actors are cool, even if Slater will certainly never be a character actor again. Deb is almost too **** I won't deny that it has something. Only this... 90s teen stuff is annoying. Coming of Age Dexter... phew, probably **** lack of new ideas continues.
